INTERNSHIPS Internships are one of the best ways for students to get practical experience, apply what they learn in the classroom, test out different career tracks, build a professional network, and find industry mentors to help guide them in their careers for years to come.

We assist our students in identifying internships at top-tier companies by leveraging our strong alumni network, our advisory board of top global business executives, and the professionals at Hofstra’s Career Center and Graduate Business Career Services.

In addition, an internship coordinator supports students in finding these opportunities, and each student pursuing an internship is also assigned a faculty advisor who serves as a mentor throughout the experience.

Today, computer-based systems are very deeply integrated into all business processes and across every industry. Our information systems track is designed to provide our students with both technical and business knowledge relating to the development and application of information systems, and enables them to effectively integrate information technology into all aspects of an organization.

The Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics provides students with a comprehensive foundation of knowledge in several key areas: • Educating students to become leaders in the new and growing field that is vital for today’s business world.

• Learning theory and practice through a field study or internships to solve real-world business problems.

• Experiencing premier industry software and tools in the classroom, such as Cisco Routers/Switches and Packet Tracer, Oracle DBMS, SAP ERP and Predictive Analytics, IBM SPSS Statistics and Modeler, R/R Studio, RapidMiners, and Tableau.

FACULTY Our full-time faculty have earned doctoral degrees from world-renowned universities, including Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, New York University, University of Pittsburgh, George Washington University, University of Iowa, Univeristy of Tennessee, and City University of New York, and believe that the integration of theory and practice in an experiential learning environment is the soundest educational approach. Faculty also conduct scholarly research, some of which focuses on the topics of decision support systems, cyber security, digital forensics, health care, social media, big data analytics, correlation analysis, optimization modeling for decision making, total quality management, artificial intelligence inventory theory and modeling, forecasting, and actuarial theory, among others.

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS Major

• Information Systems S tudents in this program pursue careers related to business and systems analysis, building computer-based information systems, web design, e-commerce, and computer networks.

• Business Analytics The program prepares students for big data management careers in business, government, health care and other not-for-profit organizations.

The course work enhances students’ analytical thinking skills and provides practical experience in this field.

Business Certificate Program

Students learn to analyze business needs and procedures in order to design a system of computer-based tools to simplify business functions and improve productivity.

• Information Systems This program involves study in areas of network and security management, health information technology, and enterprise systems management.

• Business Analytics This program provides a strong foundation in data management, quantitative methods, and analytical tools for management decision making.

• Quality Management This program is designed to improve analytical and evaluation skills through an examination of systems, processes, and operations.

Master of Science (MS) • Information Systems This program offers a concentrated curriculum within the areas of database, networking and security, and big data technologies.

• Business Analytics This program is designed to meet the demand of professionals who have the capability to analyze big data to support improved organizational decision making. It enhances the students’ critical thinking and analytical skills, and provides practical experience within the field.

This student organization helps to expose students interested in information technology to various opportunities that will improve their technological and business-related skills, as well as build their experience through a variety of technology projects, including mobile app design, website and social media strategy support, K-12 software teaching and LEGO Robotics League support.
