The Right Program for You School of Health Sciences and Human Services
Through course work, practical learning experiences and internships in areas such as rehabilitation, counseling and therapy, physician assistant studies, speech-language pathology, audiology, public health and health management, students become effective and compassionate clinicians, evidence-based practitioners and advocates who promote health equity. The curriculum is grounded in the liberal arts and sciences, giving students a strong foundation to develop critical thinking, oral and written communication skills, and an appreciation of the cultural and economic diversity of local, regional and global communities.
The School of Health Sciences and Human Services is composed of the Departments of Health Professions, Counseling and Mental Health Professions, Physician Assistant Studies, and Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences. There is also an accelerated dual degree program (Bachelor of Science/Master of Science) in physician assistant studies. HSHS faculty include both practitioners and scholars actively involved in research.
HSHS undergraduates can also rely on high-quality, comprehensive career services from Hofstra University’s Career Center. Career counselors help students build strong resumes and secure valuable internships as well as jobs after graduation. Career Center services and resources include one-on-one appointments with career counselors, access to thousands of job and internship postings, career fairs, on-campus recruitment programs, career-related webshops, mock interviews, resume and cover letter writing, and online management of recommendation letters.
