The Star-Spangled Banner – sung by the Hofbeats.

The Black Velvet Band

Traditional Irish music featuring Jimmy Walsh, Jimmy Lavin and Mickey Perry. The Black Velvet Band has played with some of the finest entertainers in Ireland and the United States.

Master of Ceremonies Tony Jackson, host of the “Irish Country” radio program on WRHU (Radio Hofstra University), welcomes the public.

Come enjoy one of the best-known acts of their kind in the United States. The group includes several national champion dancers recognized by the Irish Dance Association of North America.

They have qualified for and competed in world championships held in Ireland.

Reel Ireland Film Series: In America Wednesday, April 3, 6-8 p.m.

The Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center California Avenue, South Campus Nominated for three Academy Awards. Directed by Jim Sheridan and co-written with his daughters. This semi-autobiographical film explores the mixture of hope and despair associated with emigration.

Discussion to be facilitated by Professor Maggie Burke.

Ireland Since Vatican II — A Talk by Dr. Margaret MacCurtain Tuesday, April 30, 11:10 a.m.-12:35 p.m.

Guthart Cultural Center Theater, Axinn Library, First Floor, South Campus Margaret MacCurtain is senior lecturer emerita in the Irish History Department of University College Dublin and professor at the School of Irish Studies, Dublin. A former member of the Academic Council of the Irish School of Ecumenics, she served on the Catholic Communications Council set up by the Catholic hierarchy after Vatican II.
