HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY MUSEUM OF ART Deconstructing Venus
Exhibition on view: September 8 – December 11, 2026 Gallery Hours: Tuesday-Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. • Saturday and Sunday, noon-4 p.m. Emily Lowe Gallery, Behind Emily Lowe Hall, South Campus Despite countless depictions of female figures in Western art, women were barred from formal artistic careers. Modernity led to the reevaluation of women’s roles in society, and with it came a pathway for women to participate in the fine arts without male oversight for the first time. Deconstructing Venus is a presentation of art made by women in the 20th and 21st centuries, an era in Western art history that reflects firsthand experiences of women based on their varied personal perspectives.
HOFSTRA UNIVERSITY FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT EXHIBITIONS
Gallery Hours: Friday-Sunday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Calkins Hall, South Campus September 16–November 1, 2026 • Rosenberg Gallery • Lindsay Buchman
Tierras (a sentence, a fragment)
The exhibition draws from Buchman’s seven-year project which combines personal experience with research into Southern California’s regional history. Buchman incorporates landscape photography, creative writing, family materials and archival newspaper articles to consider migration, changing land use, and the relationship between geography and identity.
October 13-19, 2026 FORM Gallery • Jenna Collins • FEELINGS I GAVE YOU A collection of paintings and drawings that express the feeling of opening up and trusting someone with your emotions after you've guarded them for so long. FORM JR • Sonia Sitaram • The Return Connecting to the earth is what all life does and leads to. We create things from its resources; we come from our mothers whose skin dies daily, tears full of salt, and nutrients akin to a plant growing in the soil. If it wasn’t so ingrained in us, to be far from nature, we would be engulfed in it. These works connect the feeling of being outcasted with a connection to flora and fauna incorporating soil, branches, grass, sand, and flowers.
