DE MODA CONSTITUTION PREAMBLE. Under Article I, section two, of the Student Government Association Constitution, the following organization is hereby granted approval to function as a student organization for the best interest of the University community. It is the duty of this student organization to follow the Student Government Association’s Constitution and Policy Series. A club or organization shall be defined as non-exclusive in its membership and actions if it extends equal opportunity to all qualified individuals without regard to Protected Characteristics. Qualified individuals are defined as those who meet the expectations and standards of the organizations’ inherent purpose.

ARTICLE I: NAME AND PURPOSE: Section 1. The name of this organization shall be “De Moda.”

Section 2. The purpose of De Moda shall be: a. Empower and embrace flaws and change perceptions through fashion and the arts b. Help members achieve their goals to the best of the executive board’s ability, whether it be assisting in finding fashion-related internships, simply switching up their style, or providing fashion & art related outlets to assist in relieving the stress that comes with college. c. Provide a safe space for Hofstra students to embrace their creative passions ARTICLE II: MEMBERSHIP Section 1. Any undergraduate Hofstra student who pays the undergraduate activity fee as required by the Student Government Association (SGA) may become a member.

Section 2. Status of members 1. Members shall be recognized as active after attending three (3) meetings.

2. Members who miss more than three (3) meetings in a row shall be considered an inactive member unless they have notified club officers of their upcoming absences beforehand.

3. An inactive member may be reinstated as an active member by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the active membership present and voting at the meeting.

ARTICLE III: CLUB ADVISER Section 1. The Club Adviser for this organization shall be a Hofstra University employee.

Section 2. The adviser shall be approved by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the active members of this organization.

Section 3. The duties of the club adviser shall be the following: 1. Mentor and advises the organization on how best to fulfill its purpose.

2. Help members and officers of this organization accountable.

3. Provide structure for the meetings of this organization and serve as a resource. for all members and officers during meetings.

ARTICLE IV: THE TITLES OF THE OFFICERS AND THEIR DUTIES SHALL BE:

Section 1. President 1. Preside at full meetings of the club.

2. Represent the club where such representation is required, requested, or deemed appropriate and/or acceptable.

3. Carry out or delegate duties not specifically vested in any other officer in the club.

4. Update GetInvolvedHU by ensuring that the membership roster is active and complete and by updating adviser information.

5. Acts as a leader delegating duties and treating all members with respect Section 2. Vice-President 1. Assume the duty of the president in the event of a resignation, removal of the president, or in the event that the president cannot, for any reason, fulfill their duties until an emergency election is held.

2. In the event that an officer is unable to fulfill duties, the vice-president shall perform the duties until a new officer is appointed.

3. The vice-president assists the president in certain areas as needed.

Section 3. Treasurer 1. Keep track of all records concerning club funds.

2. Attend Appropriations Committee meetings when necessary.

3. Track money fundraised through designated tabling events to donate to the Fashion Foundation.

Section 4. Secretary 1. Send out emails by the direction of the president.

2. Keep track of meeting dates and what will be done at each meeting.

3. Send out emails to club members to inform them of upcoming events/important dates/details, etc.

ARTICLE V. ELECTION RULES Section 1. Elections shall be held at the last meeting before the culmination of the spring and fall semesters.

1. The presiding officer shall take nominations from the floor. Any active member may nominate any other eligible active member for any office.

2. There shall be a closed ballot; the elections shall be constituted by a simple majority of active members, present and voting.

3. If any one (1) candidate does not obtain a majority, the two (2) individuals with the highest number of votes shall participate in a runoff election.

4. If there is a tie in the percentage of votes cast in the first election, all of the candidates shall re-introduce themselves and proceed with another election until there are either a clear majority or two (2) individuals with the highest number of votes, which refers back to subsection.

Section 2. No voting by proxy shall be permitted at any election. However, if an active member cannot attend the elections, they may hand in a signed written ballot to the advisor prior to the election.

Section 3. The order of election shall start with the president. After the president is elected, the vice president shall be elected followed by the treasurer and so forth.

Section 4. Elected officials shall take office immediately after the conclusion of the elections.

Section 5. Procedure in the event of resignation, removal, or vacancy: 3

1. Any vacancy in the presidency shall result in the succession of the vice president to the presidency until an emergency election can be held.

2. If for any reason the vice president cannot assume the presidency, the election shall take place as soon as possible to elect a new president.

ARTICLE VI. MEETINGS Section 1. Meetings shall be held bi-weekly. Meetings will be at a reserved room on campus. The exact time and date shall be determined by a common agreement of the members.

ARTICLE VII. REMOVAL OF OFFICERS Section 1. If it is determined that an officer is not fulfilling the duties of their position, or is violating the rules and procedures of the club, they shall be removed from office in the following manner: Section 2. An impeachment committee shall be formed to collect and bring charges against the officer.

Section 3. The impeachment committee shall send a letter to the officer notifying their of the date of the impeachment vote.

Section 4. The committee shall present their findings to the club.

Section 5. The officer shall have a chance to rebut the charges.

Section 6. After all the procedures have been carried out, a two-thirds (â…”) vote of all active members is required to remove the officer.

Section 7. A member of the Student Government Association Rules Committee shall be present for all impeachment proceedings.

ARTICLE VIII. METHOD OF AMENDMENT Section 1. Proposed amendments to this constitution shall be presented at any regular meeting and shall be ratified by a two-thirds (â…”) vote of the active members present in voting at the following regular meeting.

Section 2. The Rules Committee of the Student Government Association shall approve all amendments.

S.A.2019.84.008 A Resolution to Detail Student Government Association’s Responsibilities Pertaining to the Pride Blocks

Whereas, the Student Government Association, hereafter referred to as SGA, remains responsible for funding the construction of the Pride Block(s) and all necessary supplies, such as paint and brushes.

Whereas, SGA remains responsible for funding any possible future demolition of the Pride Block(s) as deemed appropriate by both SGA and the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE).

Whereas, SGA Programming Deputy shall collect applications for use of the Pride Block(s) and maintain a calendar of clubs that have reserved and been granted access to paint the Block(s).

Whereas, SGA Spirit Committee, as well as OSLE, shall be held responsible for approving designs that clubs submit when seeking access to use the Block(s).

Whereas, SGA shall be held responsible to paint over profane language or images swiftly if the issue so arises.

Let it be resolved, that the Student Government Association is fully accountable for the fiscal responsibilities, maintenance, and organization of the Pride Block(s).

Makin’ Treble is the all-female acapella group on campus. They provide an outlet for anyone who identifies with the female experience to be able to sing in an audition-based group. ii.

Chairman Farooqui moves to open the gallery 1. Motion seconded a. Motion passes 2. Gallery member Denise Boneta explains that they are allowed to receive recognition because there is another club that is a gender counterpart iii.

Makin’ Treble President and Music Director come to present to get SGA recognized. They are a performing group, and they provide entertainment to Hofstra and the local community. vii.

They brought this issue to the other members of the group, and girls from the group put their info into the powerpoint. viii.

They do lots of events on and off-campus, and off-campus events require transportation, which costs money, which is why SGA recognition would be useful. ix.

In the future, they want to record an EP or album, and that will get Hofstra’s name out there. They also want to go to other colleges and perform, which would be a good way to spread the Hofstra name. x.

They also want to hold workshops for high schoolers on long island to get them into the groove of what it's like to be in a collegiate, competitive acapella group.

They have collaborated with Spectrum designs, a company that provides work opportunities who are on the autism spectrum. xii.

They want to collaborate with more clubs on campus, and they want to start joining relay for life. xiii.

They also performed in the ICCAs, which were held at Hofstra. This is an event where people from the Hofstra community and beyond came to see.

1. Comptroller Bathija asks how many people they take in and how many people they have a. They have 19 people currently, and usually, they take about 3 people per audition period 2. Chairman Alameda asks if they do any fundraising a. They collaborate with jersey mikes and tables in the student center, and they are interested in doing more community service opportunities.

3. Senator Ortiz-Jiminez asks if they have collaborated with any high schools a. They have not yet, but they plan on visiting Plainview and Connetquot xiv.

Makin’ Treble is now an SGA recognized club b. Hofstra University Dutchmen Club Recognition i.

The Hofstra Dutchmen are an all-male acapella group on campus. Their purpose is to spread music, and they have members of every grade level. They love to put smiles on other people's faces and have fun. They also perform on and off Hofstra's campus iii.

They always uphold the standards that Hofstra recognizes. They perform at a lot of events on Hofstra's campus, and they love to involve themselves, and they want to get other members involved in the acapella community. iv.

Recognition would be useful for them because they would be able to afford attending invitationals out of state, but they don’t compete like many of the other Hofstra acapella groups do, but they did host the ICCAs last year. v.

They provided a timeline of all events that they performed at and events that they attended last year. They collaborate with other groups on campus a lot. vi.

They want to record an EP or an album, which allocation money would also be useful for. Like Makin’ Treble, they also collaborate with Spectrum designs. vii.

Though they did not compete in the ICCAs, they did host it, which is a good way that they got their name as a Hofstra-based club out there.

High, Low, Butterfly President & VP Updates A. President Harley 1. Meeting with David Harb from the University Senate to talk about merging to work on larger scale initiatives that affect the entire campus. Open invitation to attend a meeting with Kathryn and Kaylor. Senate will be finalizing survey questions soon 2. Retreat contract has been difficult as the company fired someone who handles the contracts. Possibility of staying on campus for retreat and is very frustrating as we’ve been working on this for a lot of the summer until now. They will keep everyone posted about details a) Chair Firooz offers that in the case the contract doesn’t work out, we can contact Pat Montagano to use the Fitness Center 3. Chair Assignments for retreat a) Kaylor and Zain will be working on a Parli Pro workshop b) Joey will be working on a Club Leader training type session for members c) Nick and Rhea will be working on a basic budget overview (1) Comptroller Bathija says we should focus on the FAQs of budgets and Student Services and how to do initiatives (a) How to interact with Admin d) After the crash course, we will be breaking up into committees to have more specific group time B. “It’s On Us” Ambassador will be temporarily held by Chair Alameda until a senator applies for the position 1. “It’s On Us” committee meets every other Monday from 11-12

Matters at Hand A. Kathyrn and Kaylor will be reaching out to the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer, Cornell Craig, about the Anti-Semitism article. They will also be reaching out to faithbased clubs and organizations for a deeper conversation 12

B. Comptroller Bathija says that members of SGA should be informed of SGA procedures to be able to inform club leaders C. Rules Chairman Farooqui would like returning senators to sign up for elections because new senators are not sure what they are doing and need to be trained D. President Harley says that more senators should be signing up for elections as Chairs have very full plates 1. Vice President Dimes says that cabinet members should still be doing elections 2. Harley says senators should be getting more facetime with clubs as clubs mainly interact with Cabinet members anyways 3. With an organization of 40 people, we should not be relying on the same 20 to be picking up all of the tasks we need to be doing 4. Dimes says we should propose legislation for senators to complete a certain amount of elections that each senator should have to do them 5. Chair Alameda says we should go over why we do elections to ensure we all understand what the importance of doing them is a) Comptroller Bathija says we should also be cross-referencing with GetInvolvedHU 6. Vice President Dimes had to do an election last week and is not required to per policy as compared to how senators are. This election took about 10 minutes so it didn’t take too much time out of her day 7. This will be a continued conversation V.

Chair Check-Ins A. Appropriations 1. Club Rugby came to Approps and wanted to know why they are not completely funded. Approps Chair Cote wants to work with Pat Montagano to figure out if there is a way to make the process fairer a) Comptroller Bathija wants to sit down along with Approps chair Cote and the Rugby team so that they can find a common understanding 2. Appropriations Chair Cote wants to have a couple of senators a week to come into their weekly committee meeting to learn what the budget process is like ahead of Budget Appeals a) Chair Rielly asks for more specifics (1) Comptroller Bathija says we could potentially have a mock Appropriations committee meeting

(2) President Harley suggests that if there are time conflicts with committees that they join Approps at the beginning and then leave to continue in their own committee meetings B. Club Relations 1. The Committee spent a lot of time with the Newman Club as they requested funding for their “retreat”. This year, they submitted a budget to have a leadership conference and the previous SGA Appropriations Chair redefined their event as a retreat and thus denied funding for the event. Newman will be attending Senate to discuss the issue.

2. Chairman Alameda will introduce the Newman club tomorrow at the senate meeting so that the senators are aware of the issues that Newman sees a) Gave Newman their options for how they could go about getting funding for their retreat. Including SGA either changing the policy series or they can go to Approps and see if they will fund them for the retreat b) President Harley addresses how respectful that they have been during the entire process c) Vice President Dimes addresses how the Newman clubs presentation will go tomorrow at the senate meeting. Will inform senators that this will not be a time to debate d) Chair Alameda says that this meeting should be more of a time to inform senators about the impact the SGA really has e) Chairman Cote talked to Denise about changing the policy series and what the cap would look like for the budget 3. The Committee also went over the SGA Restructuring PowerPoint to be able to present as an unmoderated caucus. Chair Alameda says he doesn’t want this to be a place to debate but have a productive conversation C. Public Relations 1. Chairwoman Rielly has two new associates and two new senators. She did a quick powerpoint to get everyone on the same page 2. Photoshoot next Thursday in Plaza East at 6:30. Senators should make time to attend as they will receive a free professional headshot they can use for realworld applications 3. Chair Rielly presents a sticker that senator Mobley created and all of Cabinet thinks that it is great

a) Chairwoman Rielly says that Denise wants to add to the sticker b) Chair Alameda says that Denise is wrong. “Put that in the minutes.”

4. President Harley exclaims that the SGA t-shirts are in!

5. New form for the SGA Announcements box in the Hofstra Portal.

6. There isn’t a new Facebook group for this year as Facebook is “for old people” a) Possibly create a LinkedIn group b) Motion to have a straw poll c) Motion rescinded 7. Interest in attending the Mark Leadership Conference at Rutgers D. Rules 1. Saw De Moda, will be seeing them tomorrow night for Recognition 2. S.A.2019.94.008 - Pride Block Resolution 3. Saw SASS and the club officially changed their name to H.O.S.E. 4. Saw Undergraduate Chinese Student Association, however, their constitution had a few issues and so they did not pass the constitution 5. Going through all of the club election forms since the 82nd senate and Chairman Farooqui is shredding all of the sheets after they go through to make sure that the clubs hold an election by the end of the semester 6. There are 26 clubs that have not held an election and they are at risk to have their budgets frozen if they do not hold one by the end of the semester a) Chairman Alameda and Chairman Farooqui are going to work together on this E. Spirit 1. Chairwoman Firooz went over Pride Expo with the committee. SGA won second place and we are donating our funds to the Pride Pantry 2. Chairman Alameda came to visit and they went over the restructure powerpoint 3. The committee is working on ideas for Pride Unleashed Week a) Working with the committee on with emailing different administrators to get ideas for PUW 4. Programming Deputy Paturzo wrote emails for clubs and departments 5. Talked with Denise about the tailgate event a) Mike Neely met with Alex Federico (Director of FSL) and Interfraternity Council (IFC) about the event. b) Chair Firooz will be meeting with IFC to go over the event’s details

c) IFC is interested in getting a DJ for the event d) IFC will be sharing the funding for the event if the event happens e) SGA will likely be catering the event f) Chair Firooz will not have SGA take over the event and would like to partner with more clubs and organizations to improve the chances of success of the event g) Mike Neely would like to attend Senate the night of October 24th F. Student Services 1. Chairwoman Osner gave her senators their folders that are filled with contact information and general information about the committee 2. She is making sure that her senators sign up for elections by bringing the sign-up sheets to each meeting 3.
