Thank you for considering Viking Heliskiing for your unforgettable heliskiing holiday. We have been friends since childhood, and together, we own and operate a company that brings you to the right place and provides the ultimate heliskiing experience.
Both of us were lucky enough to be raised on the ski slopes of Iceland. After we finished our careers in alpine skiing racing, which took us both to the World Cup and The Winter Olympics, we turned our passion into ski guiding and backcountry skiing. And because our backyard is a vast and fantastic terrain with thousands of off-piste slopes just waiting for a first descent, we put together a powerful team of ski/snowboard guides and founded Viking Heliskiing in the North of Iceland.
The Viking Heliskiing crew comprises the most experienced, friendly, multi-lingual and fun-to-be with guides, pilots, ground crew, and office crew. We couldn’t ask for better people to be a part of Viking Heliskiing. Besides the finest terrain, they will make 100% sure that you will never forget this holiday.
We are truly proud to welcome you to explore our beautiful country and go on a unique skiing/snowboarding adventure with the Vikings.
Jóhann H. Hafstein Jóhann H. Hafstein Owner & General ManagerIn terms of heliskiing, only a few places in the world offer so many possibilities as Tröllaskagi -Troll peninsula. The mountain area is named after trolls that are, by the legend, still living there. Troll Peninsula lies between two fjords – Skagarfjörður and Eyjafjörður, the longest fjord in Iceland. It has countless peaks and the rare possibility to ski from a summit directly down to the ocean. The area is vast and largely unexplored, with smashing off-piste slopes that fit every type of skiing/snowboarding, from steep and gnarly to wide and gentle.
Heliski and enjoy watching the dazzling northern lights dancing in the sky during the wintertime. Rejoice in the long days and midnight sun while skiing between the towering peaks ending the ride where the shoreline meets the North Atlantic.
Let us introduce you to this bizarre scenery showing us new perspectives every season.
We could not offer our guests a better place to stay than the beautiful luxury Sigló Hotel, one of the best hotels in Iceland. Sigló Hotel provides a relaxing environment with a classic and romantic design. All rooms are spacious and have a view over the breathtaking surrounding mountains and marina. You can watch life go by from the cozy window seat in each room in this tiny, quiet haven in the North of Iceland. Outside the hotel is an amazing hot tub and Finnish sauna, and if you like, you can cool yourself by jumping into the cold Atlantic Ocean.
You will savour gourmet meals and explore the Icelandic kitchen made from fresh, local food such as goose, lamb and arctic char. It’s a taste to explore!
Discover delicious cocktails, wine and local beer at the hotel bar. Sit and play board games in the lounge area next to the warming fireplace. Sigló Hotel simply brings you that extra joy from your holiday with us.
The Clubhouse is our helicopter base & aprés ski bar situated within a 3 minutes drive from the Sigló Hotel. Guests are driven to the Clubhouse and back daily. There is a storage place for the K2 skiing/snowboarding equipment, BCA avalanche gear and boots drying room, so guests never carry anything back to the hotel.
After every heliskiing day, you can enjoy our aprés ski bar with alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages and small refreshments while exchanging the experience after the perfect heliskiing day.
Our helicopter fleet consists of the most modern and meticulously maintained helicopters, such as Astar AS350B2 & AS350B3 (A-Star’s).
Ski Barn is our guide’s office and equipment storage place for our wide selection of K2 skis/snowboards and other equipment, such as helmets and K2 ski poles. The ski barn is right in front of the Sigló Hotel, where all guests get fitted with skis/snowboards for the days to come.
The best of the best! I had an amazing experience with Viking Heliski. The guides were amazing, the lodge was a great place to start and end the day, and they had all the necessary gear and incredible knowledge of the surrounding area and its ski potential. We had no hiccups through three full days of heliskiing and have nothing but good things to say. This operation is the real deal, and I can't recommend it more!
Everything about the experience was excellent. The trip was in the first week of May 2022. We ended up with fresh snow nearly every day up in the mountains. The daily apres ski at the helipad and nightly dinners were amazing. All of their team and guides were first class! About to book my trip for this year.
The experience was just amazing and I feel like it pretty much changed my life forever. The staff was really friendly, the guides were super competent and attentive and all the guests I skied with were very likeable people. It wasn't only the skiing but also all the other things and the social experience around it that made it so special.

Our base is in Siglufjörður, a beautiful small fishing town in the north of Iceland. The flight time is between 3-4 hours from most Western European cities and about 5-7 hours from North America. Almost all international flights fly to Keflavík International Airport (see QR code for all airlines that fly directly to Keflavík). Icelandic airlines flying to North America and Europe are Icelandair - www.icelandair.com and PLAY airlines - www.flyplay.com.
We welcome all our guests at the domestic airport in Akureyri. To get to Akureyri, you must take a ride via taxi or bus from Keflavík International Airport to Reykjavík domestic airport (approximately 45 minutes drive). Then the flight from Reykjavík to Akureyri takes 35 minutes with beautiful views if the weather allows it.
After welcoming our guests in Akureyri airport we drive to Siglufjörður. The 1 hour drive is pretty epic, with Icelandic nature and amazing mountains.
Please note that a new airline, Niceair, flies directly from Copenhagen to Akureyri twice a week. You can see more on www.niceair.is/en.
From the 16th of March 2023, there will be 4 direct flights a week from Keflavík international airport to Akureyri domestic airport. See more on www.icelandair.com.
You can also choose to drive from Keflavík International airport to Siglufjörður. The drive takes about 5,5 hours, and it is an excellent way to see a little bit of Iceland.

Our heliskiing season lasts from March until May. Before March, Iceland gets heavy snow storms, and daylight is limited. March is when the weather tends to be more stable in terms of wind and precipitation, and days are getting longer. The Icelandic winter is relatively mild for its latitude. The average temperature in the mountains where we ski/snowboard is from 0 to -10 degrees Celsius.
The weather in Iceland changes quite fast. Bad weather in the morning doesn’t mean bad weather for the rest of the day. We constantly check the weather and make decisions to be able to give our guests a full heliskiing day. Closer to the middle of April and May, the daylight in Iceland is very long, and we can heliski until the late evening hours if needed.
Your safety is our 100% priority. Our guides meet twice daily to evaluate and discuss the weather, snow stability and terrain based on field observations, data supplied by remote weather stations and Icelandic avalanche forecasters. Our guides are constantly practising snow and avalanche management as we analyze changes in the conditions and make guiding decisions accordingly.
