A Guide to Grief Support with Hocokah Wellbeing

Page 1

You don’t have to navigate grief alone

Loss reshapes your world in ways no one prepares you for.

It changes your emotions, your routines, your relationships, even your sense of who you are.

There is no timeline, no ‘getting over it’ and no single right way to grieve - only your way in your own time.

I’m Lindsey Shepherd, founder of Hocokah Wellbeing

I’m an Holistic Grief Practitioner, NLP practitioner, Integral Eye Movement Technique practitioner, Healer, and Spiritual Practitioner (non-religious) and I’m deeply committed to supporting people emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually as they move through loss.

Inside this brochure, you’ll find the three grief support pathways I offer:

Grief Before Loss - support for anticipatory grief

Healing Hearts Support - for the acute stages of loss

Life After Loss Programme - for rebuilding identity, confidence, and purpose after profound loss

Wherever you are in your grief, there is a place for you here.

You’ll also find details of Gentle Grief & Energy Healing, a stand‐alone session blending compassionate conversation with energy healing for emotional and nervous‐system support

For many years I’ve worked with people who are grieving, listening to their stories, honouring their pain, and helping them find steadier ground.

I specialise in grief support because I believe that every person deserves a safe, compassionate space to make sense of their loss and gently reconnect with themselves.

How I support you through grief

A gentle, holistic approach for every stage of loss:

Grief touches every part of you - emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. That’s why the support I offer blends a range of therapeutic tools, always tailored to your unique experience and the stage of grief you’re in.

No two people grieve in the same way. No two journeys look alike. Your support shouldn’t either.

What all my grief pathways include:

1:1 emotional support grounded in coaching, NLP, and deep listening

A safe, confidential and compassionate space where you can express anything without judgement

Grief education to help you understand what you’re feeling Coping techniques and self‐care practices to support your nervous system

Healing modalities to soothe emotional and energetic overwhelm Integral Eye Movement Technique (when appropriate) to ease emotional intensity and feeling completely stuck

Intuitive, spiritually grounded guidance, always aligned with your beliefs

WhatsApp support between sessions, so you’re never holding everything alone

This blended approach adapts to you - your story, your needs, your pace, and the shifting landscape of your grief.

Holistic Grief Support that meets you where you are at

Grief before Loss Support

When someone you love is declining because of a dementia, or has received a terminal diagnosis, grief often begins long before the loss itself.

You may be trying to stay strong while quietly falling apart, carrying emotions no one else seems to understand.

This is anticipatory grief and everything you’re feeling is valid.

You don’t have to carry it alone.

How this support helps:

When you’re anticipating the loss of someone you love, you may feel devastated, exhausted, and unsure how to hold yourself together while trying to stay strong for them.

You might be grieving the future you thought you would share, unable to plan ahead, or feeling dismissed by others who say, “But they haven’t died yet.”

Grief Before Loss Support offers a space where you can bring the fear, sadness, anger, confusion, and overwhelm you’re carrying.

It helps you stay steady enough to navigate each day, understand why your emotions feel so intense, explore the conversations you may need to have, and feel supported as you face the emotional and practical realities of what lies ahead - without having to pretend you’re coping or carry it all alone.

I’ve lived through anticipatory grief with both of my parents. I know how disorienting, exhausting, and lonely it can feel. That experience - combined with years of advocacy in care homes, dementia and mental health wards, and emotional support work - is why I’m so passionate about helping others through this challenging, often misunderstood, stage of grief.

“I found this anticipatory grief support absolutely invaluable”

Healing Hearts Support

Are you struggling with the pain of a loss or bereavement?

You may be in the early stages of grief, feeling overwhelmed by the physical, emotional, and mental impact of your loss. Or you may be many months on and still finding that the pain, confusion, or exhaustion hasn’t eased in the way you hoped.

You might be feeling tearful, restless, weak, nauseous, confused, forgetful, lonely, angry, numb, in shock, or heart‐broken.

These and many other feelings are natural responses to grief. Grief can also affect your daily life - changes in appetite, difficulty sleeping, feeling detached from the world around you, or struggling to function while everything else moves at full speed.

Many people describe it as wading through treacle while life rushes on without them.

You may also find yourself avoiding others, feeling misunderstood, carrying guilt or regret, or struggling to express how you really feel.

How this support helps:

It offers a space where you can bring all of this - the pain, the confusion, the exhaustion - and be held as you navigate a grief journey that is entirely your own.

There is no timeline, no “right way,” and no expectation of how you should be feeling.

This support meets you where you are, helping you re‐anchor yourself into a life that has changed and gently grow around your grief.

“I found the Healing Hearts support better than counselling”

Life after Loss Programme

The Life After Loss Programme is for those who may be many months or years beyond their loss, yet still feel lost, stuck, or unsure of who they are now.

You may have reached a place of emotional acceptance, however still feel as though your identity, confidence, purpose, or sense of self has been shaken and you’re wondering how to move forward, how to reconnect with life, or how to feel like “you” again.

How this support helps:

This programme offers a space where you can explore where you have been, how your loss has shaped you, and how you can begin to move forward in a way that feels steady and true. It supports you to reconnect with yourself as you learn to live within a changed landscape, rebuild your confidence, and gently rediscover your purpose, identity, and sense of direction at a pace that honours your grief and your growth.

The programme guides you through a gentle process of Surrender (an aspect of acceptance), Initiation, Emergence, and Transformation. You begin by coming to a quiet acceptance of your loss and recognising how it has become part of who you are. From there, we explore the aspects of your life you wish to reigniteyour identity, your roles, your values, and what brings you joy or meaning.

We work together to build confidence, resilience, and new beliefs about yourself and your capabilities. Over time, you begin to notice shifts in your thinking, your energy, and your daily life, moving towards a place where your loss is still part of youhowever, no longer the part that holds you back.

“The Life after Loss Programme is comprehensive and versatile”

Testimonials

A few words from people I have supported:

“I had been struggling with anxiousness and depression after the death of my husband. I was drained physically and emotionally and very mixed up about my feelings. I had also just lost a horse under difficult circumstances which really affected me. Being given the space to talk about how I was feeling and about the loved ones I’d lost was very useful. The coping techniques, IEMT, healing, grief education and spiritual connection helped me immensely”.

“Lindsey’s empathy and knowledge of all the situations I was experiencing was excellent. I experienced lots of subtle changes with each session. I realised that I deserve to be happy again, knowing I can live alongside my grief better and still feel alive and worthy. Lindsey’s empathy and knowledge of all the aspects of grief is remarkable and how she explains it is valuable, especially when one is in a vulnerable state of mind”. JP - Merseyside

“Prior to starting with Lindsey, I was struggling with my emotions and found it hard to balance normal daily life with my grief. I was attracted to the Healing Hearts Support because I did not need to wait 3 months like other services, which allowed me to process my emotions quicker.

Being able to speak to someone with no agenda, and the coping techniques Lindsey provided, allowed me to manage my emotions when there were triggering events happening. Being able to talk about my loved one, from childhood to where I am now, and express my feelings about the future too, really helped.

Lindsey’s knowledge on grief theories and spiritual healing helped me connect with my loved one. The changes I have gained have allowed me to carry out daily activities without getting overwhelmed. An unexpected benefit was being able to connect with my loved one on a spiritual basis and being more confident and comfortable talking to them. The service helped me a huge amount over the last 18 months. I am in a much better place emotionally, mentally and spiritually and would recommend this service to anyone who may need it”. Support beyond grief

By identifying unwanted thoughts, feelings, or emotions and using specific eye‐movement methodologies, IEMT reduces the emotional impact of intrusive memories and unhelpful identity imprints. It supports you to manage your emotions in the present, move forward positively, and release what no longer serves you, helping you rebuild from a place of clarity, strength, and compassion.
