Hobsons Bay is a Creative City, with Council rolling out activities across the community for members to enjoy and re-connect this holiday season.

There will be music in the streets, art to see and heritage sites to engage with. Stay up to date with programming by signing up to the Arts & Events eNews or contacting the Hobsons Bay Visitor Information Centre on 9932 3016. Christmas in Williamstown Visit Williamstown from 20 to 24 December from 3.30pm to 5.30pm and celebrate Christmas by the bay.

Enjoy face-painters, balloon twisters, a magician, photo opportunities, and don’t miss Santa and his elves driving around the village in their vintage firetruck.

Pack a picnic and soak up the live music to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Meringue Roulade with a Rhubarb, Ginger and Strawberry Compote INGREDIENTS: • 6 large egg whites • 300g caster sugar • 1tsp white wine vinegar • 3 rhubarb stalks, washed and chopped roughly • 1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen) • 1 small peice of fresh ginger (grated) or 1sp ginger (ground) • 1 lime, zested and juiced • 250ml fresh cream, whipped • 1tsp vanilla bean extract • 1 tsp icing sugar

DIRECTIONS: 1. Preheat the oven to 150C. Line a large baking tray/swiss roll tin with baking paper.

2. Prepare the roulade by whisking the egg whites until they begin to change to a white colour.

3. Gradually add the caster sugar a tablespoon at a time and the vinegar half way through mixing.

4. Whisk until mixture is still (at least 5 minutes).

5. Pour the mixture out over the baking tin and use a spatula to flatten the mixture. Bake in oven for 25 mins - 30 minutes.

6. Meanwhile make the compote by combining the rhubarb, strawberries, suagr, ginger, and lime in a large saucepan and allow to come to the boil. Reduce to a simmer and allow to cook out for 10 minutes.

7. When the roulade has cooled, turn it upside down and top with cream and the compote. Roll the roulade in one direction before slicing to serve.

Tucked away deep into Newport is lesser known Challis Street shops which features beautiful homewares and flowers among other specialty services.

Altona Traditional strip shopping is alive and well in Pier Street, Altona. All the traditional services you would expect from a retail hot spot can be found here – from fresh food stores and supermarkets to florists and dollar shops. Plan one of your visits on a Tuesday to peruse the Altona Beach Market which features fresh food stalls, brica-brac and local arts and crafts.

South Kingsville Located on Vernon Street just off Blackshaws Road, South Kingsville is a shopping strip with a number of intriguing local businesses. From a specialty yarning store and fresh made pretzels to a feast worthy selection of cafes & restaurants this tight knit strip of shops is worth the visit.
