A message from the Mayor of the City of Hobbs Greetings! Thanks to our fellow neighbors and residents of Lea County, as well as our out-of-town visitors’ use of the facility, the Center of Recreational Excellence (CORE) is exceeding expectations. Here are the numbers as of July 31, 2018: •
Memberships:
2,496
•
Total Individuals Who are Part of a Membership: 7,375
• Participation:
70,511
• Day Passes:
11,232
Mayor Sam Cobb Add the last two items from above, and the total number of individuals who have visited the CORE amounts to 81,743. These are individuals who live in or traveled to Hobbs, New Mexico to enjoy not only this one-of-a kind facility but our town as well! Even with the 81,000+ visits since the CORE’s Grand Opening, there is still plenty of room for everyone in this 158,000 square-foot recreational facility, so please pass the word to friends and family to visit and participate in their favorite activities. If you’re looking for a location to host your next event at, a number of families and businesses – both big and small – are hosting everything from birthday parties, reunions and company events at the CORE. There is truly something for everyone! In addition to all the great things going on with our local residents, we are expanding our marketing area and plan to host some state, regional, and national events before 2018 comes to a close – and an even greater number of events in 2019 and 2020. So, if you have any ideas for indoor soccer tournaments, aquatic events, basketball, volleyball, or any recreational activity that the CORE could accommodate, contact the CORE at (575) 393-CORE(2673), on Facebook just type CORE in the Search section, or visit the website at www.COREhobbs.com.
Sincerely Yours,
Mayor Sam D. Cobb On the Cover: LED lights light-up the new, covered basketball courts at City Park with one of the two existing pavilions, both of which can be reserved, in the background.

We have updated schedules and added more programming for the fall season. We also appreciate everyone who has provided feedback over the past few months regarding their experience here at the CORE. Our Leadership team is happy to receive your comments and suggestions. We are constantly evaluating not only our logistical processes, but also our program offerings in an effort to accurately align with the interests of the community and we certainly appreciate your help. Finally, one of our top goals is providing a high level of customer service. With over 100 staff members, this is something we work on every day for all of you. We value each and every person that walks through our doors and we hope it shows.

Dedication Ceremony Tuesday, September 18 2:00 p.M.
City Park
The City Park Improvement Project, which is funding the renovations currently taking place at Hobbs’ oldest park, is another example of a very successful Public/ Private partnership that has led to many improvements throughout our city. The JF Maddox Foundation, the City of Hobbs and the Hobbs Municipal Schools have collaborated on making City Park yet another outstanding Quality of Life destination in Hobbs. The project is due for completion and will celebrate with a Dedication Ceremony on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. The transformation at City Park is breathtaking! The awe-inspiring structure that covers the six (6) basketball goals on the basketball court is the center-piece of the project. However, City Park will boast several eye-catching amenities once construction is complete and the park re-opens to the public. The splash pad is sure to be a popular summertime destination and the two, separate playgrounds, each with new, age-specific playground equipment, will keep the youth of Hobbs entertained year-round. The two volleyball courts will host both recreational and league play and with LED lights on both the volleyball and basketball courts and throughout the park, games and activities can continue until the 11:00 p.m. nightly, park-closing time. While City Park can certainly host a myriad of active recreation and fitness activities, those that want a more leisurely place to walk or enjoy the wide-open green space, you will find a place for that, as well. A trail composed of “crusher fines” encircles the park and there are both new sidewalks and additional parking around the perimeter of the park, as well. A new promenade bisects the park from north to south, and whether you want to enjoy a peaceful morning, afternoon or evening in the shade of one of the many pavilions, sitting on a ledge around one of the new planter beds, or relaxing on a Bermuda grass berm, City Park has you covered. New landscaping, that includes Bermuda grass, plants, shrubs, and trees will make City Park a place that we all can be very proud of. Many trees were kept from the “old” City Park and there is a very scenic stand of these trees in the southeast corner of the park. We hope you will take the time to get out to City Park and enjoy time with your family and friends having fun in all that City Park has to offer! 7

A Very Worthy Honor For A Very Worthy Man
On Saturday, July 28, the City of Hobbs dedicated Martin Field in honor of Ronnie Martin. Ronnie was a lifelong, baseball ambassador and loved the game of baseball. Ronnie played on the Hobbs High School Baseball Team, coached Little League Baseball, was instrumental in starting the West Texas - New Mexico Baseball League and enjoyed playing slowpitch softball with his co-workers from the Hobbs Post Office. Ronnie touched the lives of many Hobbs residents whether it was on the baseball and softball fields or delivering mail. Those in attendance included Community Affairs Board members, City of Hobbs staff, and the friends and family of Ronnie Martin. Mayor Cobb and Dylan Wisneski, Ronnie Martin’s grandson, threw out the Ceremonial First Pitches just prior to the first-ever game to be played on Martin Field.

Adoption Center
The Hobbs Animal Adoption Center strives to provide respectful and humane treatment to the animals in our care while providing the best service to the citizens of Hobbs. We strive to provide programs for the treatment/care of animals to the city residents, so we can accomplish our goal, which is to continue the reduction of unnecessary euthanasia due to pet overpopulation issues.
Did you know? Your pet must be registered with a city license and there are multiple options for registration. Registration is $10 per year or $20 per three years for tags, or you can choose to microchip your pet for $20.00 if not altered (spay or neutered) or $10.00 if altered. The HAAC offers reduced cost spay or neuter for your pets to Hobbs residents that qualify. There are two free shot clinics throughout the year. The City of Hobbs Animal Ordinance and Fee Resolutions can be found online at www.HobbsNM.org/animal_adoption_center Tuesday - Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Sunday and Monday: Closed 55
Dog Park
4314 N. Grimes DOG PARK HOTLINE: (575) 397-9323 OR (575) 397-9265 Hotline numbers are to be used for any urgent situations
OPEN DAILY 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. Located on the east side of Del Norte Park, the dog park is designed so that dogs can safely exercise and play off-leash in a controlled environment under the supervision of their owners. Off-leash dog areas, or dog parks, provide a community setting in which people can gather and socialize and where they can observe the interaction of groups of dogs at play. Dog parks allow owners and their dogs to spend time together and offer dogs a space for play and companionship with other dogs.
Dog Park Usage Guidelines In order to provide a safe and friendly environment, the City of Hobbs urges all patrons to read and observe the following rules that are in accordance with established City ordinances:
56
1. The dog park is for dogs, their handlers and those accompanying them. No other use is permitted. 2. All dogs must be legally licensed and vaccinated and shall wear a visible dog license and rabies tag. (Ordinance 6.04.210) 3. Dogs less than 4 months of age and female dogs that are in heat are prohibited. 4. Dogs must be on a leash when entering or exiting the dog park. 5. Dogs must be under the control of their handler and in view of their handler at all times. 6. Spiked collars are prohibited. 7. Children 12 years and under must be accompanied by an adult. 8. Handlers must be at least 16 years of age. 9. Handlers must have possession of the dog leash at all times. 10. Handler is limited to a maximum of two dogs. 11. Quality of Life Spotlight Regardless of whether you refer to it as the Health Walk, Fitness Trail, Lovington Highway Trail, or the State Highway 18 Beautification Project, the 4.8 mile long linear park that meanders along the west side of the Lovington Highway provides a lush, green welcome to those arriving in Hobbs from the north. A partnership between the City of Hobbs and the JF Maddox Foundation created this project and affords those who want to walk, jog, bike, get out for a walk or run with the baby stroller or the dog, a place to enjoy 24 hours-aday as the project is lighted at night. On the north end, the trail is adjacent to the 2.38 mile long jogging trail that encircles the Rockwind Community Links Golf Course. There are several locations along the trail to park and multiple restroom facilities are available, as well. If you haven’t explored this opportunity, we encourage you to do so!
