By Gary Demopoulos • HNIB Welcome players, parents, college scouts and fans to Hockey Night in Boston’s 27th annual Girls SummerShowcase,atop-flighttournamentconsisting of players from many different states and Canada.

Last summer’s tournament saw a strong Northern New EnglandentrywinitsfirstHNIBtitle,pullingawaylatefora31winoverMass.Public/Catholicinagreatchampionshipgame.

This year’s Showcase will certainly boast some exciting upand-downaction,astheShowcasewillfieldarecord20teams, reflecting the amazing growth of womens hockey in this country

Empire, Mass Public/Catholic, Metro,Mid-Atlantic and Rhode Island will be in the Red Division. The Bears Tier 1 North, Eastern, New England, NE Connecticut and Suburban make up the White Division. Bears Tier 1 South, Central,Coastal, Northeast and Southern NE are in the Blue Division, and Atlantic, Lakes Region, Mass Preps, Northern New England and Southeast will compete in the Green Division.

Each team will play four first-round games, with the playoff rounds/crossovergamestakingplaceonSunday,August8..The top team in each Division will enter into the semifinals and vie fortheGirlsSummerShowcasetitle.Theremainingteams-2nd place through 5th place in each division - will play a cross-over “playoff’game.

With the amazing growth womens hockey has seen, HNIB decided in 1995 to add the Girls Summer Showcase to its summer activities. 2021 marks the historic 47th year of HNIB’s nationally-known boys tournament, and the amazing 27th year of our Girls Summer Showcase.

The Massachusetts Preps are in their 12thsummer and were put together and will be coached by Jenelle Ries fromBrooks School. The same formula held true for Frank Pagliuca, the coach of St. Mary ’s of Lynn, who has put together a solid club representing the Massachusetts Public/Catholic schools for several years now.

HNIBheld a pair of Festivals, at the Bog in Kingston, MA, and at the Haverhill ValleyForum, where players were chosen to finalize seven teams, including Mid-Atlantic, coached by Corey Cooper of Hotchkiss, Southeast, coached by Canton

High’s Dennis Aldrich, New England, headed up by Melissa Tetreau of Phillips Andover, Northeast, coached by Winchester’s Craig Seabury, Metro, coached by Worcester State’s Eliza Kelley, Coastal, headed by Boston College goaltendingcoachMoeBradley,andSuburban,coachedbyformer pro player Maddie Evangelous.

LawrenceAcademy coach Kevin Potter has put together the Eastern squad for the eighth straight summer. Central was put together and will be coached by KevinZifcak of Worcester Academy.

PortsmouthAbbey head coach Kurt Carter has again constructed his two teams - Atlantic and Rhode Island - to compete. Berwick’s Kelly Souza is the architect of the Northern New England club.

Back for their second summers at the HNIBShowcase after impressivedebutsin2020are Southern New England,headed by Corey Cooper, Empire, which will be led by Millbrook head coach Erica Shapey, and Lakes Region, constructed by

Chris Ladabouche.

A new entry this summer to keep an eye on is NE Connecticut, put together by Pomfret School coach Shane Dunphy, and coached byAri Shocket.

And rounding out this year’s field will be two teams from the BlackBearsTier1Academy,enteredbyAlexMoodyandfeaturing players from several different states.
