Team Eyes Repeat Of Year One Showing

It was quite a debut for the Essex squad at HNIB last summer, reaching the semifinals in year one. This year’s club is hoping for at least a repeat performance.

Essex was put together and will be coached by Sean Roach.

The forward ranks boast a wide array of talent. Expect some good production from senior Nick Julian of Malden Catholic via Lynnfield, and junior Matt Babineau of Malden, an important cog in the lineup at New Hampton School.

Stoneham HS sends two of its top forwards in senior Joe Kranefuss and junior Danny Storella, both of whom must be watched closely.

Mass. HS power St. John’s Prep is represented by a pair of forwards from its deep lineup in senior Sean Brown and junior Will Van Sicklin.

Senior Patrick Roach had a solid campaign at North Shore Hockey Academy this past winter and will be in the lineup this year for the Valley Jr. Warriors EHLP club. Michael Nigro, a solid two-way skater at Winchester HS last year, takes his offensive prowess to Lawrence Academy this fall.

Selected to join the roster from coach Roach’s HS Festivals team are Lynnfield’s Chase Carney, Wakefield’s Bobby DeFeo and Adyn Simmons from Bishop Stang.

Another returnee from last year is Nick Marino, who moves on to the Cyclones for the current campaign.

Defensively, Essex looks strong.

Pingree senior Bryce Bedard is back after skating on the blue line for Essex last summer at HNIB. Impressive junior Drew Damiani, from Lynnfield HS, looks to open some eyes.

Apair of seniors – TommyTilas and Michael Shyjan – are also back and both come from the St. John’s Prep program.

Junior Colby Lyons is a solid, two-way rearguard bound for Winchendon after a solid campaign with the U16 NH Avalanche.Lynnfield’s Nathan Alves will have a huge role for Essex.

And in goal, Essex will be backboned by the duo of senior Sam York from St. Mary ’s Lynn, and up-and-coming sophomore Nick Hubbard out of Lynnfield HS.
