ComicArts 2025 Brochure

Page 1

INTRODUCTION

A lot has happened since ComicArts launched in 2009—

• We started out as an imprint, and in Fall 2024 grew into an entire division of Abrams.

• Published hundreds of graphic novels, monographs, and collections with an array of creators—from first-timers to industry veterans.

• Had six New York Times bestsellers, including a #1 bestseller with Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation by Damian Duffy and John Jennings.

• Won awards, including 15 Eisners Awards (and received 55 nominations) and 10 Harvey Awards (and 47 nominations). We even won a Hugo Award for Parable of the Sower: A Graphic Novel Adaptation for Best Graphic Story.

• Launched Megascope, a line of graphic novels curated by John Jennings, dedicated to showcasing speculative and nonfiction works by and about people of color, with a focus on science fiction, fantasy, horror, history, and stories of magical realism; and Surely Books, dedicated to increasing the presence of LGBTQIA+ creators and content in the comics world.

• Expanded our publishing to include manga by introducing Kana.

• And initiated ongoing partnerships with various brands, including Topps, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, the Simpsons, and Peanuts Worldwide.

When we launched in 2009, I wrote, “As with any origin story, Abrams ComicArts will evolve and refine itself with age—unimaginable from the outset, but then that’s the exciting part.”

Much of the past sixteen years has been unexpected, and it has certainly been exciting. And transformative. The year ahead promises to be equally so, with the new releases showcased in this brochure and a handful of announcements yet to come.

Our goal has always been to maintain the fine art tradition for which Abrams is known while defining the medium of comics and comics art for generations to come. Thank you for your support, and for joining us on this unexpected and exciting venture.

FROM THE PUBLISHER

Dear Bookseller,

The publishing industry is made of passionate people who believe that books, regardless of the medium, bring knowledge, entertainment, fun, and genuine emotion to readers of all ages. As publishers of art books and graphic novels, we love comics and champion our creators and their books. Independent booksellers are an integral part of this process, and we need you to get these works into the hands of as many readers as possible.

Challenges are numerous, and market conditions can be difficult. The size of the market in the US, and the existence of intermediaries, have created a distance between independent bookstores and publishers. Our goal is to connect with you directly and speak about our list.

This year, we are proud to present an amazing line-up of new titles and initiatives. First, our graphic novels offer something for a wide spectrum of readers, with titles such as:

• Graphic novel adaptations of Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Talents, Stephen Crane’s The Red Badge of Courage, and Francis Ford Coppolla’s Megalopolis.

• Contemporary fiction with Night Eaters, Phenomena, From Above, and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.

• Nonfiction such as Photographic Memory, The History of Jerusalem, Kent State, The History of World War II, and the biography Audrey Hepburn.

• And continuing partnerships with established licensors—Peanuts Worldwide, Marvel, the Topps Company, and the estate of Frank Herbert—with Only What’s Necessary and The Essential Peanuts, Spider-Man: Panel by Panel and The Avengers in the Veracity Trap!, Garbage Pail Kids 40th Anniversary Edition, and—last but not least—a deluxe edition of Dune: The Prophet and an ultimate box set with all three volumes of the bestselling graphic novel trilogy.

• Under our Kana imprint, which is dedicated to manga, we are thrilled to see the arrival of several eagerly awaited series and prestigious titles:

• City Hunter, which began streaming as a live action movie on Netflix in 2024.

• Cat’s Eye, whose publication is tied to the release of an anime on Hulu in September.

• Leviathan Volume 3 and Manhole Volume 3, the final volumes of these exciting trilogies

• And My Life in 24 Frames Per Second, an autobiography in manga from Rintarô, the legendary anime director, which just won the Grand Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize— a first for a work published outside of Japan.

We hope you enjoy these books as much as we take pride in publishing them. Thank you for your ongoing support—we’re here to help you, so please feel free to reach out to us anytime.

Best wishes,
