Improve Your Health with Neurofeedback

WHO CAN BENEFIT??

WHAT IS NEURO FEEDBACK??

Neurofeedback and Biofeedback are words that are often used interchangeably, however there is a difference between the two. Both include the word feedback which simply means information is being received. So, Bio (biology or body) is feedback relating to biological or bodily activity and neuro (brain) is the feedback relating to neurons or brain cells.

HOW DOES IT WORK? Medical practitioners often use biofeedback to improve a particular physiological activity. For example a person experiencing TMJ pain can use biofeedback for treatment. The intent is to unlearn the physical motion of constantly clenching the jaw. A provider attaches sensors to the lower part of patient’s face. A computer screen in front of the person shows a green light when the jaw is relaxed and a red light when the jaw muscles are tightened. When repeated over a period of time, this kind of exercise in awareness can help improve body function naturally.

Neurofeedback is a specific type of biofeedback that utilizes the power of the brain as the master controller of the whole body. Therefore, many people can achieve the same and even greater results by using neurofeedback rather than biofeedback equipment. Multiple benefits can be experienced at once by training the brain with neurofeedback because of the brain’s overall functional improvement.

Neurofeedback can work on anyone, no matter the age. All that is required is the ability to focus on the audio or video stimulation.

Neurofeedback has been widely researched and can be effective for: ADHD Adult and Child Trauma Symptoms Complex PTSD & PTSD Anxiety Disorders Autism Spectrum Symptoms Migraine & Headache pain Depression & Mood Disorders Insomnia & Sleep Problems

For example, a child can use brain training to help improve sleep. But within a few sessions, a parent might notice that the improved sleep is not the only new development. They may see that the child wakes up in a better mood, they’re more cooperative with their siblings, have far fewer temper tantrums, and are suddenly showing interest in reading books.

It’s like a positive domino effect.

10 TIPS TO STAY ON TRACK AT THANKSGIVING Eating often takes center stage at Thanksgiving but that doesn’t mean we have to give up on good health.

Check out these tips for a fit and healthy holiday, without sacrificing any flavor or fun.

Exercise!! Get outside for a walk before the festivities.

If you’re up for a challenge find a Turkey Trot in your town. Don’t have time to get to the gym, try an at home circuit or Tabata workout, you can complete in less than 20 minutes.

Eat in the morning. skipping breakfast in order to “save your appetite” for dinner probably isn’t the best idea.

Not breaking the fast ‘til the afternoon may lead to binging later on.

Make sure to drink water throughout the day to stay hydrated. Not drinking enough H2O could spark hunger pangs, which may actually be thirst.

Research shows, how quickly we eat matters too. In one study, fast eaters consumed around three ounces of food per minute, while slowpokes only ate about two ounces. Chewing slowly could mean less calories consumed, so slow it down when digging into the dinner plate.

Be careful with foods that aren’t as healthy as they seem. Green bean casseroles, Gratins, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce may hide sneaky ingredients high in fat and sugar.

Unfortunately, calories from alcohol can sneak up on us during the holidays. Choose between the alcohol or dessert.

Wait 20 minutes (the approximate time it takes to feel full) before filling up the dinner plate again. Unless you’re really hungry, save some food for leftovers.

Cheese and crackers can happen any day of the year.

Save your appetite and calorie consumption for dinnertime.

Stick all the Thanksgiving sides on a smaller plate. Research shows it’ll help you eat 22 percent fewer calories, while a bigger plate of food may be licked clean, even if we’re not hungry.

The holidays shouldn’t be about restricting certain foods—just try to enjoy them in moderation.

Make sure to get seven to nine hours of sleep the night before Thanksgiving. Not getting enough sleep could amp up appetite levels the following day.

BOOT CAMP BASICS Saturdays 9:15am Get back to basics with this total body, heart pumping, conditioning class that combines traditional calisthenic and body weight exercises with intervals and strength training for an intense indoor workout.

INTRODUCTION TO FITNESS

BARRE/PILATES FUSION CLASS: Wednesdays 10:30am This full body conditioning class combines the fundamental principles of both Barre and Pilates. Each class will work to balance all muscle groups’ strength and flexibility, with an emphasis on sculpting long, lean muscles while challenging the core with each movement. This low impact class is great for all ages and fitness levels.

NEW CLASS!! KINDSTRETCH: Fridays 9:45am Learn movement patterns that promote full body control to Improve flexibility, mobility and joint strength.

SENIOR FITNESS AND HEALTH CLASSES GO4LIFE: Tuesdays 1:00pm This Senior Health Fitness program is designed by the National Institute on Aging and focuses on fitting exercise and physical activity in to daily living. It is for any Active Aging Adult who is currently exercising or in need of a guide to get moving or be more active. CARDIO/STRENGTH CIRCUIT CLASS

This cardio/strength, small group class is held in the cardio weight room. It is performed in a circuit format that moves from cardio vascular machines to weight machines. The class is designed for all fitness levels to tone muscles and increase meta- bolic function for more calories burned over a longer period of time. DANCE LIKE A STAR

Wednesdays at 7:00pm through November 20th. He will skydive in, weather permitting. ● Golfers, neighbors, military supporters, elected officials, patriots, and families from all over north Georgia. ● Everybody is welcome, even those not playing golf. ​BRING YOUR KIDS. What: ● A military charity event that includes 18 holes of great golf and great fellowship. ● A rotary winged fly-in that will include at least 5 helicopters of various kinds both military and civilian with opportunities to ride in the civilian helicopters and an AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter and Vietnam UH-1. ● An all-day long free-fall demonstration event with jumpers free-falling from the helicopters that fly in. ● A display of some of the tactical vehicles, weapons, and tools used in defense of our nation.

When: ● First helicopters will arrive around 0900hrs. ● Shotgun start (using a shotgun) at 1030hrs. ● Helicopters and parachutists will be in the air all day long and will conclude around dark.

Where: ● The Bridgemill Athletic Club becomes the Bridgemill LZ/DZ this one day each year.

Why: ● To support Operation Santa. Operation Santa is the main effort of VFW Post 12002. Funds raised go to support Georgia-based troops and the families of those troops deployed to wherever they are fighting. ● Funds are used to purchase Christmas gifts for those deployed troops’ children (708 last year, alone). ● Funds also used to support deployed troops’ families if they become financially distressed due to deployment and to outfit handicapped accessible living quarters for local wounded warriors. ● We get to celebrate Christmas with our kids because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those that wish to harm us for celebrating Christmas. This is the least we can do for their kids and families.

BridgeMill hosted a charity event for Northside Hospital Tennis Against Breast Cancer - on October 11th.

Players on BridgeMill league teams must be Tennis or Golf members in good standing. Captains must get approval from the Tennis Department before submitting a roster to the league. Posted in the Pro Shop is a list of players looking for teams and teams looking for players.

TENNIS BALL RECYCLING

The morning began with breakfast, team photos and chair massages at Featherstone's followed by 2.5 hours of tennis drills put on by top pros in the area. After drills the ladies were treated to lunch and a fashion show and more. This event raises funding for mammograms and transportation to under-insured women in our community.

Instead of launching your used or bad tennis balls out of the court please drop them off at the Pro Shop or leave them on the tray by the scorekeepers to be recycled. Old tennis balls have a multitude of uses after their tennis life has expired.

Teachers, boaters & dog lovers are always calling us for old tennis balls. Plus, tennis balls do not disintegrate into the ground so to be kind to the earth please help us recycle tennis balls.

FALL JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAM The junior program at BridgeMill is designed to meet the needs of all our junior players starting at age 5 and up and recreational to advanced tournament players. The goal of our program is to instill a love for the game of tennis in our youth. We encourage and foster a healthy, active lifestyle that players carry with them throughout their lives. Our program is divided into categories based on ability and age.

All programs focus on proper stroke development, footwork, fitness, strategy and mental toughness at an age and level appropriate manner.

EXCEL FUTURE STARS DEVELOPMENT GROUPS 5-6 years – This group is for our youngest juniors with little or no tennis experience. Our goal in the program is to help children learn and enjoy the game of tennis while improving their overall athletic skills. We focus on basic motor skills like throwing, catching, running and jumping but also learn fundamental racket skills.

7-10 years - These classes are for juniors with little or no tennis experience. We focus on developing athletic skills, fundamental stokes and learning how to play points and keep score.

11-16 years – This group is for players with little or no experience. Players will be taught every shot, how to score, how to play a match. This group is great for those aspiring to play on their high school teams and know what they are doing.

Development groups meet for 1 hour. Check with the Tennis Pro Shop for development group class schedule & available space.

FRIENDLY REMINDER Please check in with the Pro Shop Attendant prior to play. The courts are in high demand so one person per court, whether from a team or individual reservation, should check in with the Pro Shop prior to their reserved court time to verify their court usage and pay any guest fees. The staff also will be able to let you know if there have been any changes to your court number at this time.

The tennis courts are for BridgeMill Athletic Club members and their guests only. Accompanied guest fees are $10.00 per person. Athletic members and their guests are also required to pay the $10.00 per person court fee. Court fees should be paid before play. Unaccompanied guests are not allowed to use the tennis courts.

EXCEL ACADEMY The Academy group is for intermediate to advanced players, ages 11 & up, who are committed to improving their game. This high energy group of players is striving to play tournaments, high school tennis or working to get a college scholarship. The Head Coach of the academy is Jennifer Pourchier who is also the Head Coach for the Reinhardt University tennis teams! One unique benefit of this is that Academy players often get to hit and train with the college players! Players are divided by ability level and age. Drills focus on proper strokes, footwork, fitness, strategy and mental toughness. The group meets Monday and/or Wednesday from 5:00-7:00pm. This program runs throughout the school year.

TENNIS BALL MACHINE BENEFITS To become a better tennis player, you need to get the basics right and that’s where a tennis ball machine can come to your aid. If you are an aspiring player, you need to learn how to strike the ball well, on a consistent basis. If you want to compete at a high level it is vital that you work to improve your accuracy and power. All of this requires a serious amount of repetitive practice. A ball machine can help you to develop a consistent stroke by delivering the ball the same way each time. This allows you to perfect your technique until it becomes second nature. Once you have learned to strike the ball cleanly at different speeds other areas of your game will improve too. You can practice on the ball machine alone or with friends or family. Using the ball machine will enhance your skills and endurance. There are many options with the ball machine to improve your skills. BMAC has a tennis ball machine and members can rent the machine. So, book some time on the ball machine and improve your tennis skills.

Autumn is in BridgeMill and the BridgeMill Sixes Service League (BSSL) is looking forward to finishing up the year on a high note with plans for 2020!

UPCOMING EVENTS! Saturday November 9th will be our annual Food Drive for MUST Ministries. BSSL Volunteers will be delivering bags the week of November 2nd and will pick up the filled bags on November 9th by 9 am and will deliver them to the MUST food pantry for deserving families in Cherokee County. In the past, we have asked for items to complete a Thanksgiving dinner, but the MUST shelves are empty so we are asking for all non-perishable food items. We will be at the BridgeMill pool parking lot until noon on November 9th if you prefer to bring your contribution to us. Contact Ruth Clark at 631338-2367 for additional information.

We follow up this evening with dinner out. This year we will dine at Nuevo Amigos on Sixes Road.
