Be aware golf attire is needed to play golf and to practice on the driving range. That includes no denim and please have collared shirts. We are looking forward to a great year of golf and memories at the club. Get out and get involved this year!
BRI DGE M I LL W ELCO M ES DREW ROB B IN S Dear Members of BridgeMill Athletic Club, It is great to be back at the place where I started my career and shared many great memories working alongside my father. For those of you who do not know me, my name is Drew Robbins, your new Golf Course Superintendent. As I sit in the office that belonged to my father Andy for 17 years, it is surreal to be taking over his position. I began working at BridgeMill when I was 18 years old fresh out of high school, I worked the summers trimming, mowing, and learning the intricacies associated with caring for a golf course. During this time I was able to truly understand the dedication and expertise required for the position of Superintendent as I revered the hard work and knowledge that my dad Andy possessed. After a few summers, I shifted my focus to working full time on the golf course and eventually became the Assistant. In 2020, Jim approached me about becoming the Superintendent at Moccasin Bend Golf Club in Chattanooga, an opportunity I was excited to pursue. After a very successful season, an owner of other area clubs decided to take over the lease from HMS. I then went to work at St Ives Country Club as the First Assistant Superintendent where I was able to learn the ins and outs of how a private club functions and gained tremendous knowledge under the Superintendent and past president of the GCSAA, Tim Busek. A great experience but when Jim offered me the chance to take over for my dad at a place that felt like home, I didn't hesitate and couldn't be happier to be here. My goal as your Superintendent is to always strive for better playing conditions and golf experience all around to make BridgeMill the best it can be. As an avid golfer myself, I notice all of the areas we can improve just as much as our golfers. We are working diligently to address some of those issues and hope to continue to get better. Specifically, the club has purchased a new Verti-quake machine which has serviced all of the fairways and has already

made a dramatic impact on how our golf course handles rain events. This machine will also be used in the rough throughout the season, as well as a core aerfication of all warm season turf scheduled for June. We also will be looking at adding some drainage in areas that stay wet to improve our conditions. With our now 24 year old bentgrass greens, we will continue to modify the soil profile with venting/vertical mowing/topdressing as needed to increase the percolation of water through the soil resulting in longer more dense roots better suited for firmer conditions. We have also started an interseeding program to attempt to grow new bentgrass plants in areas that are notoriously thin. As for collars and other areas that have fallen victim to a harsh winter and excess traffic, we will begin sodding those areas as the season progresses. Other various projects will occur as well, all with the goal of increasing the quality of the club as a whole. I plan to be an open book and a would love to field any questions anyone may have about our operation. I would like to thank Jim Haslam for the opportunity to be your Superintendent and my dad Andy Robbins on preparing me for this position. I am extremely excited about this upcoming season and look forward to giving our golfers a great experience. Sincerely, Drew Robbins, Golf Course Superintendent 770.345.5500

MONDAY MORNING MULLIGANS WITH THE LADIES! Monday Mulligans are set aside for ladies starting about 8:30. Please call the Pro Shop no later than Saturday at noon to verify the tee time as it may change based on course availability. This is a casual group and a good way to sharpen your skills AND maybe get a chance to better your score through the Ringer tournament. If you are not familiar with the ringer, please contact Kelly at 770.893.7958 or Molly at 770.940.4099. Cost to be part of the ringer competition is $20.
NINE AND WINE WEDNESDAY EVENINGS The ladies have tee times blocked out every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30. This is a 9 hole friendly competition with a few game nights included with prizes! Golf Buddies will have details of any upcoming events and instructions on how to be involved. We ask that you sign up for games or casual play no later than Monday at noon. If possible, plan to stay after play for a drink and/or dinner at Featherstone’s.
MARCH REUNION ON THE RANGE We had a great time for our first event of the 2022 season. Denise provided buckets of range balls and the LGA Committee put together a chipping contest, putting contest and best dressed contest to celebrate the wearing of the green. Deedee Veres, Chris Loomis and Patti Zoeller were the lucky, though very worthy, winners of the fierce competition! The first casual golf event was Wednesday, March 23rd. Though the rain tried to keep us away, 15 ladies came out to play and their smiling faces show they had a fun evening playing very wet fairways.

TIPS FROM THE PROS AT GEORGIA GOLF PERFORMANCE HOW TO CHANGE UP YOUR PRACTICE Do you feel like you’re constantly practicing and working on your game but not getting any better? First let’s start by defining some different types of practice. TECHNICAL PRACTICE - This would be very much the type of practice you would see at driving ranges everywhere. The focus here is very technique based; you may be working on something specific in your swing, doing a certain drill, maybe using some video feedback. Generally, this will be done by hitting the same club to the same target continuously. While there is a time and a place for this, it’s not the only way to work on your game. PERFORMANCE PRACTICE - This is totally different from technical practice and not something you would see many people doing on the driving range. While there is a time and a place to work on your technique, there’s also a time to develop some other skills. A good example would be when some of my players have a big tournament or event coming up that they are trying to prepare for. As the event gets closer, we will transition to more performance practice or time on the golf course. The goal is that the technique work has already been done by that stage. If you want to know more about how to practice more efficiently, or how to further improve your game, reach out to Sean Fox at Georgia Golf Performance.
