HOW TO SUBMIT CONTENT FOR LAKE ARROWHEAD LIVING All content for consideration as well as all correspondence regarding Lake Arrowhead Living Magazine should be directed ONLY to layccnews@gmail.com. This is an integral process in place for checking to be sure all content received has been considered for each particular month's publication. Items sent to any other email address will possibly be omitted. Note that Lake Arrowhead Living is published monthly (12 issues per year) in an overlapping format that covers 2 months at a time. Magazines generally arrive in mailboxes around mid-month. For example, the June/July issue will promote late June and July events and will feature articles submitted by May 10th covering happenings that took place in April and May. New content is always due by the 10th of each month to be published in the next month's issue on the following schedule. Please note that the 10th is a HARD deadline for all content unless previously discussed and planned with the layout designer. This means that if you do not have a standing dedicated section of the magazine, your content is considered "new" and the deadline of the 10th applies. Those with standing dedicated sections have a grace period for submission decided by and agreed upon with their layout designer. golf news LAKE ARROWHEAD FATHER’S DAY SCRAMBLE On Saturday June 18th, Zach Morgan, Donnie Pierce and Jordan Pierce won the annual Lake Arrowhead Father’s Day Scramble. The tournament rules allow non-family members to participate as long as the team includes at least one father/child or grandchild combo. The format of the tournament was a typical 4-person scramble where all team members hit tee shots and then select the best ball location for their next shot. This process of hitting shots and selecting the best one continues until the ball is holed out. The teams were divided into flights and prizes were given out for the first three places.

by Cindy Rincon The morning of Thursday May 12th started out cool… but soon became warm and then hot as the second Lake Arrowhead Ladies Golf Association golf event began. The theme was West Side Story and teams were divided into the Jets vs. Sharks. We played a scramble with 6/7 players per team. Scores were tallied at the end of play and the Jets Won by just 2 points! The JETS team members: Sarah Jones, Eleanor Gibbons, Joan Eberhardt, Lynn DeWolfe, Grace Kreft and Roz Waldron (see winning team pic below) The game was lots of fun and what added even more to the good time was the gathering afterwards for lunch and announcing the team and player winners. Team Jones/Gibbons won 1st place for lowest team score. 2nd place low score went to the Team Bolding/Adams/Hall. (see winners below)

Congratulations to all the winners!!! Grace Kreft, our resident artist, and decorator provided clever table centerpieces depicting the challenge between the Jets vs Sharks. She is amazing and she never ceases to surprise us with her talent. (see pic at right) In addition to this event, the Pro Shop scheduled a women’s golf clothing trunk show with Callaway! We were able to have lunch while pursuing the latest golf attire and some of us even found some new digs to sport on the course! *********************** Our next event is planned for June 23rd. club business SHORT-TERM RENTAL ORDINANCE CHEROKEE COUNTY, GEORGIA Cherokee County, Georgia has recently adopted an ordinance regarding short-term rentals. The full ordinance is available at ShortTermRentalOrdinanceCherokeeCounty20210806.pdf (cherokeega.com), but we wanted to make each property owner aware of this ordinance and have highlighted a few of the key points in the ordinance. 1. The purpose of the ordinance is to establish standards for short-term rentals of privately-owned residential structures rented to transient occupants, minimize adverse effects of short-term rental uses on surrounding residential neighborhoods, and preserve the character of residential neighborhoods. 2. A certificate is required to lawfully rent, operate, or advertise any property for short-term rental. a. Owners must apply to the Cherokee County Development Services Center on an annual basis for a certificate. b. Certificates require an initial administration fee and annual renewal fees. 3. The Certificate number must be listed in any advertisement for the rental of the property. 4. No short-term rental shall offer more than five (5) bedrooms for rent. 5. The use of outdoor speakers by short-term rentals is prohibited. 6. The number of occupants shall not exceed two persons per bedroom plus two additional persons. 7. The short-term rental must have parking off the street sufficient for one car for each bedroom being rented. Parking shall only be on designated hard surfaced areas. 8. Quiet hours are 12:00 a.m. midnight to 7:00 a.m. daily, 12:00 a.m. midnight Saturday to 1:00 p.m. Sunday). 9. The Cherokee County Marshal’s office (678.493.4080) is tasked with enforcement of the ordinance

Narrows Marina Parking Permits have been mailed to Property Owners who currently lease a Narrows Boatslip. This permit must be placed on the inside windshield. Security looks for these yearly permits when checking the Narrows parking lot. Please register boats and trailers. See Boat Registration information below. BOAT REGISTRATION Boat registration forms may be downloaded from the website at lakearrowheadclub.net. Proof of liability insurance with limits not less than $300,000 is required for all motorized boats. Please mail a boat registration form and insurance to: LAYCC 486 Arrowridge Waleska, GA 30183, email membership@ lakearrowheadga.com, use the property owner drop boxes located at both security gates, or bring your form to the South Gate and the Administration office. All items in Dry Storage MUST display the current decal to continue using Lake Arrowhead Dry Storage. As a reminder, it is a violation of the covenants to park or store the following: boats, vehicles, trailers, campers, RVs, etc. on your property. Agreements may be terminated at any time due to past due accounts.

club business SHORT-TERM RENTAL GUIDELINES: PHASE I https://library.municode.com/ga/cherokee_county/ordinances/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=1106313 In order to protect and preserve the residential character, property values, and enjoyment of all homeowners within the Lake Arrowhead community, please observe the following guidelines for relative to short-term property rentals of Lake Arrowhead Phase I units. 1. Short-term property rentals (less than 6 months) are strictly prohibited in both Phase II and Phase III of Lake Arrowhead. The maximum number of occupants should be restricted to no more than two individuals per bedroom. 2. Short-term rentals should be registered with LA Security gate they intend to enter, and identified as short-term rentals so that the appropriate identification may be provided at check-in a. Amenity use cards, identifying renters and associated unit address b. Vehicle “hang tag” for vehicles 3. All rental agreements should include an acknowledgement that renters have received and agree to abide by the Lake Arrowhead Rules and Regulations a. If boat usage is included with the rental of the home, a printed copy of the lake rules and restrictions should be included with the rental agreement, a copy should be left in the home, and a laminated copy should be placed in the boat and/or attached to the boat key b. Violations of the lake rules and regulations may result in revocation of the issued boat permit and result in suspension of lake access privileges 4. Homeowners are responsible for the actions of guests and renters of their home and violations of the Covenants or Rules and Regulations will typically be handled in the following manner: a. 1st infraction – issuance of written warning to homeowner b. 2nd infraction – 30-day suspension of common property access and privileges for homeowner, including any invited guests and renters c. 3rd infraction – 12-month suspension of common amenity access and privileges for homeowner, including any invited guests and renters d. 4th infraction – permanent loss of common amenity access and privileges for homeowner, including any invited guests and renters e. Addition steps may be taken depending on the nature of the infraction, including contacting the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department or taking additional legal to enforce the community governing documents f. Common property damage by renters, if applicable, will be levied against the lot owner g. Egregious infractions may result in immediate suspension of common property access and privileges or other sanctions 5. “Party Houses” are strictly prohibited and deemed a nuisance and violation of the Lake Arrowhead Covenants, Article III, Section 19. Party Houses are also prohibited by popular short-term rental companies (Airbnb and VRBO) and nuisance properties will be reported to the appropriate listing entity.

ARCHITECTURAL EXTERIOR WORK POLICY When an Exterior Work Permit is approved, the owner will be sent an 8 ½ x 11 permit that shall be placed in a window on the first floor of the property. The blue permit sign indicates that work on the property was reviewed and approved by the Architectural Review Committee.

club business MARINA PAVILION RULES AND REGULATIONS: HOURS OF OPERATION The Marina Pavilion will be open dawn to dusk or during sanctioned LAYCC events. FOOD & BEVERAGE Food and beverages are allowed to be carried onto the Pavilion. No glass bottles or beer kegs are permitted. No grilling or preparation of food is allowed. All trash must be placed in the trash receptacles on the shore.

ATTIRE Members and guests shall dress in attire befitting the surroundings of the community. Extremely revealing attire, such as a thong, is not suitable for the family atmosphere of the Marina Pavilion.

NO SWIMMING No swimming is permitted from the Marina Pavilion or docks anywhere in the “No Wake” zone. No running or diving is permitted from the Pavilion or docks. NO FISHING No fishing is allowed from the Marina Pavilion or docks. BOATS Boats can tie up on the side of the walkway only where there are cleats and cannot at any time tie up to the Pavilion. Maximum time at the walkway is 1 hour (or 15 minutes if others are waiting). These areas are intended for drop off and pickup. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES No grilling, skateboarding, bicycles, rollerblading, sunbathing, or feeding the wildlife is permitted on the Marina Pavilion or docks. PETS Pets are not allowed on the Marina Pavilion.

Are you a tennis player new to Lake Arrowhead? Or a former tennis player wondering why you aren’t playing and thinking maybe you’re due to get back to the game? Lake Arrowhead Mixed Doubles would love to welcome you to join our play. Here’s what you have to look forward to: For the summer we are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday & Friday at the tennis courts at Red Cloud Park. Note that there is no water fountain at the Courts so bringing a cool drink (and maybe a snack) is encouraged. Around mid-October as weather cools, we switch to same days at 1:30 p.m. for which an announcement will emanate from this website. You just show up to play and everyone who’s there organizes into doubles teams, usually in order of arrival. If there are not multiples of 4, some people will play singles or just volley while some may prefer to sit, particularly after playing a set or two. Sets are games of 4, not 6, so each person serves one game. Tie-breakers are 1 point, both for games and for sets. After a set ends, the losing team goes to the lowest number court in use and the winning team moves up to a higher court unless already on Court 1. Teams split up after each set and new teams are formed by those arriving from another court also splitting. The idea is to give everyone the chance to play with others and to prevent any team from being dominant. The effort is also usually made for teams to be gender mixed, but sometimes players will opt for a “Guys’ Game” and a “Girls’ Game”. On the other hand, sometimes there’s an uneven number of each gender so the goal is to try to even up skills. Speaking of skills, some of our players have been ALTA-ranked with ALTA experience and, perhaps, some of the unranked players could have been ranked but never got around to doing so. The point is that we have a broad range of playing skills and the goal is to play. Winning is nice, but playing and maybe honing one’s skills or sharing skills with others in need, is also always a consideration, along with camaraderie and sportsmanship. We thus consider it an opportunity to make new friends and become even more of a participant in the great community that constitutes Lake Arrowhead. Feel free to come by and see for yourself.

“FALL into FUN” with the 2022 KBDF Memorial Golf Tournament

The Kathy B. Davis Foundation’s Memorial Golf Tournament returns to Lake Arrowhead Yacht and Country Club’s Highlands Course on Friday, September 2, 2022, with a 7:30 a.m. registration and an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. This year marks the fifth anniversary of this popular event and will be the only 2022 fundraiser held to support the foundation’s philanthropic efforts on behalf of the special-needs community in Cherokee County. In addition to contests for longest drive and flight winners, this year’s golfers will be competing for a $500 prize on every Par 3 hole, while hitting from their regular tees. The proceeds from the 2021 tournament totaled $22,000 and helped sustain KBDF’s Flowers for a Purpose and the Adam Holland Special Education Scholarship. Additional support was provided to Angels on Horseback, Adult Disability Medical Healthcare, Cherokee County Special Olympics and Empower Cherokee. Goshen Valley provides hope and healing to foster youth and vulnerable families to cultivate personal healing and generational change. Their mission is to be the leading provider of trauma-responsive, faith-based services for children, youth and families predicated upon best and most promising practices to create relational environments that evoke peace and purpose in self and others. Each year, Goshen Valley has increased the average number of at-risk youths served per day, currently nearly 100 per day per calendar year; they have served over 700 foster youth, seen 8 young men enter the armed forces, have celebrated 51 high school graduations, have facilitated over 30 adoptions and have seen countless families restored through their programs.

The FCA is an interdenominational Christian sports ministry with a mission to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes, primarily by working to lead every coach and athlete into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and His church. In each practice, huddle and game-day play, the FCA seeks to make disciples through their methods of engaging, equipping and empowering coaches and athletes to know and grow in Christ and lead others to do the same. Golfing Fore Children’s contributions have directly helped the FCA ministry at two high schools in Cherokee County (Cherokee and Riverwood). Hundreds of students on the football, lacrosse, baseball and basketball teams are reached through witnessing, character building sessions, one-on-one praise sessions and weekly bible studies. At Cherokee County School the entire football team will be attending THE premiere FCA camp this summer at the University of West Georgia. There the coaches and athletes will work on perfecting their craft, and participating in break-out sessions to dive deeper in their faith; some hearing the Gospel for the very first time. —————————————————————MUST MINISTRIES——————————————————————

MUST brings people together to minister to others with compassion and love. Their mission is to serve our neighbors in need in the community and in doing so, transform the lives and communities in response to Christ’s call. MUST has a vision to become Georgia’s most respected servant leader— restoring lives one person and one community at a time. The MUST Ministries Client Services in Cherokee County offer food, housing programs, workforce development and clothing, as well as Breads and Sweets. Clients participate in a variety of classes in the classroom and the computer lab. Over 3,400 people were served from July 2020 to June 2021 alone; more than 285,000 lbs of food was distributed and they saw a 124% increase in housing clients. Over 500 people were provided job assistance and 300 placed in stable jobs. ——–———STUDENT SERVICES FOR CHEROKEE COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT (CCSD)——————

CCSD is a high performing public school system dedicated to “educating the emerging generation” with 40 schools and centers, 4,800 employees and more than 47,000 students—with many families and children in need. Student Services provides resources for homeless children and youth as well as students in foster care throughout Cherokee County. Student Services for CCSD is able to provide specific needs for the child and the family, in order to maintain the child in the school learning environment. For instance, a child and/or family may receive grocery cards for those families who have no food for the weekend.
