Congratulations to Steve Kibare for shooting our new course record from the Black Tees - 61! Steve is a 19 year old BridgeMill Junior Golf Academy alum who is playing college golf at Dalton State. His college team won the 2021 NAIA Championship this past spring. Well done Dalton State and well done Steve!

We had four former juniors come out this past fall from the Junior Golf Academy and play college golf this fall: Harrison Smith - Lee University, Billy Goddard - GCSU, Brock Hoover - Augusta State, and Steve Kibare - Dalton State. If your junior is not involved in the Academy programs, get them in soon! This program has put over 35 players into college golf!

Next up on the tournament calendar for the MGA is the Shootout on July 24th. If you have not signed up for this great event, get on the ball and get in the event.

The next Club event is the BATTLE OF THE MILL. This is a great event open to Golf Members only. Please sign up in the shop if you are interested in playing in this event. This is a two day event that pits Team Thompson vs Team Killeen. In the past years Team Romano won the initial event. Team Killeen came back in year two to make it 1-1. This is the year that breaks that tie! Date for the event: August 14th and 15th.

Ladies get ready to get back to golf and into ladies clinics! Starting in August we will offer classes Wednesday mornings 9-10 am, Thursday evenings 5-6 pm and Friday mornings 9-10 am. Please sign up for these classes through Gerogiagolfperformance.com. Ladies Member/Member Event is August 29th, find your partner and sign up through the golf shop!

TIPS FROM THE PROS AT GEORGIA GOLF PERFORMANCE

BECOME A MASTER OF THE PAR 3

It’s a single shot to the flag. You can tee your ball up and give yourself a perfect lie. This should be an opportunity to hit the green and set up a birdie putt. But for so many of us, par 3s are where it all goes wrong. Let’s change that. You want to give yourself the best chance of hitting the green on every par 3, but so many golfers lower their odds by selecting a club that gets them to the flag with a perfect strike.

Step 1: Smarter Club Selection

Select a club that, when hit really well, gets you to the back of the green. Your average ball strike likely gets you to the middle, and even a less than perfect strike has a chance of making it to the green. If there’s trouble behind, take the club that gets you to the middle on a good strike.

Set Yourself Up for Success

Par 3s give you the opportunity to hit an ‘approach’ shot from a perfect lie. But many golfers aren’t taking advantage of that opportunity.

Step 2: Tee Up Wisely

When using an iron, the head of the tee should be just visible above the grass. This position increases your chances of finding the hitting zone and getting full distance on your shot.

We see a lot of golfers tee their ball up way too high. This causes impact to be made higher on the face of the iron, outside of the hitting zone. Ball speed dips and you come up short.

A Safer Way to Score

When standing on the tee box of any par 3, your first thought should be "what’s the easiest and safest target I can go for?" Ignore the flag. Find the point on the green that gives you the most room for error.

Step 3: Remove the Risk

Very often, going for the flag on a par 3 increases risk. In this example, a slight miss when going for the flag puts you in the water hazard. It’s an all or nothing shot. But, if you aim for the larger area in the middle of the green, you’re only risking an up and down if you go long or fall short.

“My son Hudson who is now 7 started working with Coach Blake when he was around 6 years old. Within the last year we have moved from regular lessons to a coaching model, where Coach Blake works with Hudson every week, plays 9 holes each month, keeps his stats so we have blueprint, and comes to his tournaments to watch him compete. Blake’s coaching program and blueprint has taken his game to the next level; before coaching and just doing standard lessons Hudson had won 1 event that year. Once we began coaching this year Hudson has finished 1st or 2nd in all 7 events he has played except for 1, carrying a scoring average of 39. He also qualified for the Drive, Chip, and Putt that is hosted by the GSGA this year. We have created a great team between Blake being the head coach, me as the dad caddying, and Ryan Reid, his trainer/PT with ClubPT, this is known as "Team Hudson"! I would encourage any junior who has aspirations to play at a high level to join Coach Blake’s coaching program and have your own team created, like we do at Team Hudson! Most importantly, I expressed to Blake that Hudson has to first have fun, and have a great attitude or this wouldn’t work. 2021 GEORGIA GOLF PERFORMANCE JUNIOR TOUR

The Georgia Golf Performance Junior Tour Season is in full swing! Our Junior Tour event is one of 3 key measuring tools we use in determining placement of GGP juniors within the Performance Pathway. Every month from March to October we host an event alternately at BridgeMill Athletic Club and Towne Lake Hills Golf Club. Juniors compete at special yardages that are based on their developmental age and skill set. All ages are welcome to participate in the tournaments. July! Fireworks! Cookouts! Ladies golf EVERY Wednesday! The BridgeMill Ladies golf group has tee times starting at about 5pm every week. Some weeks we have a game night with a twist to golf rules and prizes. Alternate weeks we have casual 9 hole golf…we meet near the bag drop starting at 4:30 and head out when ladies arrive and form teams. When possible, we like to stay afterwards to have a drink Or dinner and share our golf stories… join is to hear the rest of the story! June 9th was the “3 by 3 Game Night”…different holes had different rules. Three holes were a scramble, 3 holes were an individual best net and 3 were alternating shots. Prizes were awarded for best net ball, best alternating shots, best scramble and best overall total net score. June 23rd was our “Tin Cup Challenge”… all golfers were warned to make sure your favorite club was in their bag for this one. Prizes were awarded for lowest total team score, best team net score and one prize for closest to the pin. Kelly Cook arranges our game nights and the ladies love them! Join us!!

Upcoming events for July… July 7th. July Jumble. Details will be explained on game night…prizes for first, second, third and fourth PLUS an additional prize. Must be present to win! 2021 BRIDGEMILL MGA LUCKY 9 RESULTS PLAYED MAY 1ST

Over 70 players participated in the MGA Lucky 9 Social on Saturday May 1st and it was a fun and exciting event. The format had odd numbered holes played from the Gold Tee and even numbered holes played from the Green Tee. At the end of the round, nine holes were randomly drawn for the events score. Four Gold Tee holes and five Green Tee holes selected for a par score of 36. CONGRATULATIONS TO the Lucky players below!
