BRIDGEMILL PARK & PLAYGROUND RULES AND SAFETY GUIDELINES Rules and Guidelines for this area include the Park Pavilion, open field, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and playground.

• Parks and Playground areas are private Club property Members & Accompanied Guests are welcome.

• Parks and Playground areas close at Dark.

• Members are responsible for their child’s safety at all times.

• Adult supervision is required for all children under 12.

• Pets are not permitted in any sand areas. All pets must remain on-leash while on BridgeMill property.

• No bikes, skateboards, skates, etc. permitted under the Pavilion.

• Do not use sidewalk chalk underneath the Park Pavilion.

• No food and beverage is allowed on the basketball and volleyball courts except in plastic sports bottles.

• Baseballs, softballs and bats are not permitted in the park/playground area, including the open field.

• No profanity is allowed.

• No running up the slides.

• The infant swings are for small children assisted by an adult.

• No sitting, walking or standing on the horizontal ladders.

• Do not jump out of swings.

• Keep small children away from the large children swings.

• Do not throw sand.

• No sitting or climbing on top of the slide towers.

• No hanging on the basketball rims.

• Glass is not permitted.

• Scooters, bicycles, strollers, skateboards, skates, chairs, vehicles, or similar equipment are not permitted on the basketball courts.

• BridgeMill's Park and surrounding areas are smokefree.

MAINTAIN YOUR NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION FOR GOOD!! (PART 1) THE SMART GOAL METHOD: Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Time-Bound Studies show that people are 40% more likely to achieve a goal when they write it down.

feel overwhelming right now? Can the goal be broken down to a smaller goal?

Goals inspire us to new levels of achievement, they make us feel proud when we reach them, and give us something to look forward to each day.

“I feel healthy, confident and strong having lost 25lbs by tracking calories, eating smaller portions and walking for 30 minutes 7 days a week.”

Achieving any kind of goal requires a plan. Without a plan there is only hope for something to happen.

Many times our goals are ambiguous or seem too overwhelming to know where to begin. Applying the SMART goal method is a useful tool to use when creating goals, to help you determine exactly what you desire and how to achieve it.

Realistic: The goal needs to be realistic. As you become more specific, the goal starts to feel more real but is it realistic? Will you really walk every day? Will walking be enough to get you to your goal? Are there other activities that could be added that would be beneficial and fit with the goal.”

Specific: It’s not enough to just say, “I want to lose weight” or even, “I want to lose 25lbs”. The goal must be specific, have meaning and purpose. Here are a few questions to ask yourself in the process. What is it that I want? Why do I want to achieve this goal? And what will it feel like when I achieve it. How will I get to my goal? Write the goal down as specifically as it feels good to you. It is important to state the goal in a positive form as if you’ve already achieved it.

“I feel healthy, confident and strong having lost weight.”

Measurable: The goal has to be measurable to track progress. Do you want to lose a specific number of pounds, get to a certain weight, dress size or body fat composition? Also determine what action you’ll take to reach your goal.

“I feel healthy, confident and strong having lost 50 lbs. by tracking calories, eating smaller portions and exercising every day.”

Attainable: The goal should feel attainable, and sustainable, one that is a bit of a challenge but doable without feeling overwhelmed.

Time bound: A goal needs to have a time frame.

Assuming it is January 1st, and knowing that a one pound a week weight loss requires a deficit of 3500 calories what kind of time frame feels attainable and realistic to lose 25 lbs. There are 24 weeks in 6 months.

Whatever amount of time feels best is up to you, just put a date on it.

“On July 1st, 2020 I feel healthy, confident and strong having lost 25lbs by tracking calories, eating smaller portions, walking for 30 minutes 4 days a week and weight training 2 days a week”.

ADDITIONAL TIP: Set an intention daily for smaller goals (prepare a healthy shopping list, review a restaurant food guide to prepare you for dinner out, cook at home one more night a week, walk an additional 100 steps).

Accomplishing smaller goals lays the foundation for achieving the bigger goal.

H.I.I.T. BLAST: Wednesdays 9:15am High intensity interval training helps you be more efficient in less time. Short bursts of intense exercise followed by short recovery breaks. Bodyweight exercises , plyometrics, and other training techniques maybe used.

PUMP IT UP EXPRESS: Thursdays 7:30am This high energy, 30 minute, calorie scorching, cardio and muscle endurance class, utilizes light to moderate weights, with lots of repetitions, for a total body workout CARDIO KICKBOXING: Fridays 8:15am A fun, energetic class that combines choreographed movements of punches, kicks and knee strikes set to the latest music. Expect a full body workout that engages every muscle group, torches calories, build s lean muscle and improves flexibility, balance and coordination.

BOOT CAMP BASICS Saturdays 9:15am Get back to basics with this total body, heart pumping, conditioning class that combines traditional calisthenic and body weight exercises with intervals and strength training for an intense indoor workout.

BARRE/PILATES FUSION CLASS: Wednesdays 10:30am This full body conditioning class combines the fundamental principles of both Barre and Pilates.

Each class will work to balance all muscle groups’ strength and flexibility, with an emphasis on sculpting long, lean muscles while challenging the core with each movement. This low impact class is great for all ages and fitness levels.

NEW CLASS!! KINDSTRETCH: Fridays 9:30am Learn movement patterns that promote full body control to Improve flexibility, mobility and joint strength.

SENIOR FITNESS AND HEALTH CLASSES GO4LIFE: Tuesdays 1:00pm This Senior Health Fitness program is designed by the National Institute on Aging and focuses on fitting exercise and physical activity in to daily living. It is for any Active Aging Adult who is currently exercising or in need of a guide to get moving or be more active.

Individuals will exercise weekly, set goals, track progress, and receive nutrition guidance. SPECIALTY GROUP FITNESS Specialty group fitness programs are short term (4-8 week) sessions that are goal specific and include an added personal experience.

CARDIO/STRENGTH CIRCUIT CLASS

Mondays 7:00pm and Thursdays 9:00am with Andrea. This cardio/strength, small group class is held in the cardio weight room. It is performed in a circuit format that moves from cardio vascular machines to weight machines. The class is designed for all fitness levels to tone muscles and increase meta- bolic function for more calories burned over a longer period of time. Members must register for the class each month (4x per month $20, 8x per month $40).

INTRODUCTION TO FITNESS

Tuesday, January 14th at 7:00pm This is a once a month, small group, introduction to fitness class. It focuses on teaching proper use of the cardio and weight equipment, with an emphasis on how to get started and what options are available to help you reach your health and fitness goals. The Pilates workout utilizes a spring and pulley resistance system along with bodyweight movements to provide a challenging workout that builds core strength, endurance, coordination while improving flexibility and balance. GOLF NEWS WINTER GGP GOLF SPEED TRAINING AT BRIDGEMILL FITNESS CENTER The GGP Speed Training Program uses core training to transfer more power to the swing and uses lightweight training aids to increase swing speed. Golf swing speed increases when the body parts move in the correct order to produce an efficient golf swing. If your goal is to be shooting lower scores, then more speed and distance helps to get you there.

The GGP Speed Training Program has produced average clubhead speed gains of 10 mph for golfers of all ages and abilities. This program is year-round and will continue through the winter in the BridgeMill Fitness Center.

JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAM The junior program at BridgeMill is designed to meet the needs of all our junior players starting at age 5 and up and recreational to advanced tournament players. The goal of our program is to instill a love for the game of tennis in our youth. We encourage and foster a healthy, active lifestyle that players carry with them throughout their lives. Our program is divided into categories based on ability and age. All programs focus on proper stroke development, footwork, fitness, strategy and mental toughness at an age and level appropriate manner.

EXCEL FUTURE STARS DEVELOPMENT GROUPS 5-6 years – This group is for our youngest juniors with little or no tennis experience. Our goal in the program is to help children learn and enjoy the game of tennis while improving their overall athletic skills. We focus on basic motor skills like throwing, catching, running and jumping but also learn fundamental racket skills.

7-10 years - These classes are for juniors with little or no tennis experience.

We focus on developing athletic skills, fundamental stokes and learning how to play points and keep score.

11-16 years – This group is for players with little or no experience. Players will be taught every shot, how to score, how to play a match. This group is great for those aspiring to play on their high school teams and know what they are doing.

Development groups meet for 1 hour.

EXCEL ACADEMY The Academy group is for intermediate to advanced players, ages 11 & up, who are committed to improving their game. This high energy group of players is striving to play tournaments, high school tennis or working to get a college scholarship. The Head Coach of the academy is Jennifer Pourchier who is also the Head Coach for the Reinhardt University tennis teams! One unique benefit of this is that Academy players often get to hit and train with the college players! Players are divided by ability level and age. Drills focus on proper strokes, footwork, fitness, strategy and mental toughness.

The group meets Monday and/or Wednesday from 5:00-7:00pm. This program runs throughout the school year.

All Spring ALTA roster deadlines – January 20. This includes Men, Thursday Women, Weekend Women, Senior Day and Junior leagues Players on BridgeMill league teams must be Tennis or Golf members in good standing.

Captains must get approval from the Tennis Department before submitting a roster to the league. Posted in the Pro Shop is a list of players looking for teams and teams looking for players. Call the Pro Shop if you want your information on this list.

BALL RECYCLING Instead of launching your used or bad tennis balls out of the court please drop them off at the Pro Shop or leave them on the tray by the scorekeepers to be recycled. Old tennis balls have a multitude of uses after their tennis life has expired. Teachers, boaters & dog lovers are always calling us for old tennis balls. Plus, tennis balls do not disintegrate into the ground so to be kind to the earth please help us recycle tennis balls.

We are lucky to have a board of directors and a club full of volunteers that are all committed to community outreach and assistance. Lynn also held the position of treasurer for several years and is always one of the first to jump in when additional help is needed. Lynn was selected by our membership.

BUNCO FOR CHARITY – this very popular event will take place at the Terraces on February 7th starting at 6:30. $25 will reserve your table spot, food, drinks, prizes and a lot of fun. This event is open to all over the age of 21, you do not need to be a BridgeMill resident to attend.
