The BridgeMill News FEBRUARY 2020

BridgeMill Seniors Win NASMGA Championship BridgeMill captured the NASMGA match play title with a narrow 9.5 to 8.5 victory over Indian Hills on November 4th. The match was a seesaw battle from start to finish. Our Pro and A flights both got off to a fast start, only to see the resilient Indian Hills B and C flights roar back to knot the match at 6 to 6. Another fast start by our D flight put us up 8 to 7 with only one match remaining. Now with the pressure fully on, a determined E flight mounted a back 9 comeback to halve their match at 1.5, thus assuring BridgeMill the victory and the NASMGA championship. BridgeMill won the NASMGA regular season title, and followed that up with playoff victories against Olde Atlanta and St. Ives before beating Indian Hills in the finals. It took a total team effort to make the season the success that it was. Captained by Andy Capron, the talented BridgeMill team included Greg Baldwin, Sam Blair, Hank Cook, Gary Dorminey, Bill Duryea, Tom Evangelista, Rick Franke, Gary Gonzenbach, Barney Liebman, Tim Ligon, Jim Morris, Jerry Porter, Jack Quigley, Bill Reoch, Don Robinson, Larry Rosetta, Ron Runions, Bill Schuette, Jeff Smith, Clay Stokes, Larry Westbrook, Charlie Whittaker, Tommy Wingo, and George Wooten. find out more about BridgeMill's NASMGC on page 21

RULES CORNER QUESTION

@BridgeMillGolf Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for all the most up to date BridgeMill announcements.

Troy played a stroke into #3 green; It was late in the day and the sun was setting and he could not see where his ball came to rest. When he got up to the green, none of the players in his group could find his ball anywhere. Troy searched, but eventually was forced to take the lost-ball penalty of stroke-plus-distance. So he put the second ball into play, and when he holed out with the second ball, lo and behold, there was his first ball in the bottom of the cup. What is the ruling? Does your first ball, a hole-out, count, or does your second ball?

We appreciate your cooperation in keeping our beautiful course looking as good or better than you find it during your round. Please continue to exhibit proper etiquette in repairing all ball marks properly, sanding lots of divots along the way, and smoothing bunkers throughout the day. Also, remember to follow all cart rules, directional ropes, and signage reminders throughout your round. Thank you in advance for your assistance!

All Full Golf Members - Please pickup your Complimentary Golf Guest Passes in the Golf Shop.

ANSWER: The first ball (the one that was holed-out) counts. The very first rule in the Rules of Golf includes this: "Each hole starts with a stroke from the teeing area and ends when the ball is holed on the putting PAGE 20 | FEBRUARY 2020

@BridgeMillGolf

Congratulations to Steve Kibare, Harry Smith and Billy Goddard for winning the Ed Liebman scholarship award. All are verbally committed to play college golf at GCSU in Milledgeville, GA next fall. I could not be more pround of their hard work and dedication to becoming the best they can be. Along with their golf scholarships they all are receiving $2,000 to go towards their college experience from the Killeen Klassic and Barney Liebman. Mr. Liebman started the scholarship in honor of his late brother Ed who died of Pancreatic Cancer. It is through his generosity and the Killeen Klassic Golf tournament that we are able to fund this scholarship program. These juniors have been part of the BridgeMill Junior Academy since they were 7 years old. It is amazing to see how they have grown and become some of the top 10 players in Georgia. If you are looking for a place for your junior to grow and learn this beautiful game, we have helped over 30 players in 14 years play college golf at varying levels.

by Molly Mayer

Together, we can make a difference

It’s 2020 and the Bridgemill Sixes Service League is celebrating their 20th Anniversary this year! We have started off 2020 with a bang! We had our first meeting of the year with our new president Mary Wiechert. Mary has served on the board for the past two years and we are honored to have her as our new president. Our additional board members for 2020 are the following: Chairman of the Board- Julie Rosenberg; VicePresident- Susan Silverman; Treasurer- Lynn Weimer; Co-TreasurerNatasha Uffner; Membership Vice-President- Sally Peterson; CoMembership- Deborah Holder; and Secretary- Cheryl Karr. The board is excited to lead the Bridgemill Sixes Service League for 2020. For our first meeting of 2020 we discussed our 2019 survey results. Our members fill out surveys to discuss what charities the league should consider supporting and what fundraiser and service projects we should plan for the year. We also discussed our budget and made a plan for 2020. We look forward to raising money for our local charities and being able to give back to our community. On February 7th we will have our first fundraiser of the year. We are playing Bunco for charity and would love for you to join us. We will be starting at 7 p.m. We will first socialize and eat some refreshments together and then we will play Bunco! Bunco is a fun dice game that anyone can play. You do not need to have any prior experience to play. It will be a fun night for all. Please come and play and help us raise money for charity. Please contact Susan Gaines at 305-510-5411 or Michele Neese at 803-2409513 if you would like to play. The Bridgemill Sixes Service League meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month. We also have fundraisers, service projects, and social events throughout the year. We would love for you to join us for a meeting. If you are interested in attending, please contact our President Mary Wiechert at 404-431-3777 or our Vice President of Membership Sally Peterson at 770-617-0640.
