HEALTHY LIVING 5 TIPS TO MAINTAIN YOUR HEALTH GOALS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON CREATE A PLAN AND EXPECT TO SUCCEED:

EAT MINDFULLY AND CONTROL YOUR ENVIRONMENT:

Many folks get to the Holiday Season and automatically expect to fail at maintaining their health goals because they have in the past. “If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail”. It is estimated that when you create an action plan for a specific goal you can increase your chances of success by 40%. So what is your goal for this Holiday Season? Keep it simple. Write it down and then determine the small steps you will take to succeed. EXPECT TO SUCCEED and you will!!!

Eat with intention. If you’re going to indulge, be sure to choose something you know tastes good, and you’ll love, otherwise it’s just wasted calories. Eat slowly and focus on chewing your food well, place your fork down and truly enjoy each bite, the smell, taste and texture of each item. Research shows when you take your time you are more likely to feel satisfied on less calories because you give your stomach time to tell your brain it is satisfied. Remember to track and control alcohol consumption. You’d be surprised how many calories you take in from alcohol (so make sure you log it right along with your food). If you’re going to a Holiday party and don’t know what is being served, bring a healthy recipe you've created so there is at least one thing you can eat with confidence. Sit next to a healthy-eater (there’s strength in #’s) or sit next to the uncle that eats slowly so his pace slows yours.

TRACK YOUR FOOD: A 2008 study published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine shows that keeping a "food diary" may double your weight loss efforts. and during the Holidays it will help you find places to cut back so you can indulge in a Holiday meal or enjoy grandma’s famous apple pie without feeling guilty because you kept to your plan. Don’t skip your regular meals, you may be likely to overindulge later. SCHEDULE YOUR EXERCISE: The busy Holidays are a time when it is easy to allow other obligations to sidetrack you from your workout. Be sure to set a time in your schedule just like a doctor’s appointment that you wouldn’t miss. Get extra exercise where you can. Set an alarm on your phone every hour to get up out of your chair to move for a few minutes. Workout while you’re watching tv. Park further away from the mall entrance. Take 10 minutes to walk during your lunch hour. PAGE 8 | DECEMBER 2021

BE EASY ON YOURSELF. If you get off track one day don’t throw in the towel, get over it and get right back on track the very next day. Remember you’ve experienced many temptations and slip-ups before and everyday there are challenges we face but remain strong and make the choices that help move you toward your goals. Don’t allow the Holiday season to be the reason to get sidetracked from your very important health goals, and also don’t allow your health goals to sidetrack you from enjoying this special time of the year. Eat, Drink, Be Merry, Stick to your Plan and Expect to Succeed!! BRIDGEMILLATHLETICCLUB.COM

TIPS FROM THE PROS AT GEORGIA GOLF PERFORMANCE TRICKY LIES Conquer Side Slopes Fairways are full of sloping lies. They’re an additional challenge you’ve got to deal with, and we’re going to help you do just that. Ball Below Your Feet This one’s probably the toughest sloped lie for most golfers. Catching the ball thin is the tendency here. Ball Above Your Feet This lie brings the ball closer to you. The loft on the club causes the club face to aim left from these lies so make sure you take your aim carefully, especially with your more lofted clubs. No More Sliding Scores Let’s create more scoring chances for you by improving your impact from sloped lies.

IT'S PLAYTIME How about some 40-yard golf? The average golfer hits 3 to 6 greens in regulation per round. That means up to 15 holes per round will probably require a wedge shot within 40 yards. That’s why it’s good to get into the habit of regularly playing 9 holes of 40-yard golf. Try not to complicate the opening pitch shot on each hole. Your target is to complete the 9 holes in 27 shots. Celebrate every time you get 24. More experienced golfers should really be looking to score from this distance. Their target is to get through in 24 shots, or less, over 9 holes. How far under 27 could you go? Let’s schedule some time at the practice green, or perhaps an accompanied play round of 40-yard golf, and get you well below 27 and having more fun around the greens. To book a coaching session at GeorgiaGolfPerformance.com or call 770-345-5557.

WINTER TRAINING AT GEORGIA GOLF PERFORMANCE Our academy has heaters in our bay so you can comfortably train all winter long. Being consistent in your training is key to maintaining, and more importantly, improving your golf skills. We create an individualized improvement plan to accomplish your golfing goals and personalize your practice routine to accelerate your golfing goal. LGA NEWS by Molly Maher OCTOBER EVENTS ARE FEATURED! BridgeMill ladies had two outstanding events in October. October 3 was our popular Oktoberfest 4 person ABCD format. This tournament involved playing cards. Each player drew a card. Prior to play and that determined whose score was used on each hole. After completing a hole, the players would have to go to the tee box of the next hole to see what the playing card was and whose score was to be used. Mulligans were available with all money to go to the LGA fund. 1st place winners were Kelly, Missie, Diana and Briana. 2nd place winners were Vanessa, Joyce, Irene and Jan. Closest to the Pin winner was Joyce and the longest drive with a wiffle ball was Briana. October 27th was our Halloween Tombstone individual game.. Each Golfer had a tombstone personalized with their handicap. Once those Strokes were reached, the golfer planted her tombstone. The 5 golfers that got the furthest with their tombstones were winners. To add to the fun, many of the ladies dressed in costume. After play, we met in the Wine Room for drinks, appetizers and prizes. Prizes were awarded to Therese, Diana M, Kelly, Jill and Robin for 1st – 5th place and the Best Costume award went to Karyn. October 30-31 was our annual Club Championship tournament. The LGA is delighted to congratulate our overall low net winner JILL LAIN. In the Championship Flight, 1st place low gross winner was JAN SMALL and 1st place low net winner was MISSIE KISKER. In the First Flight, low gross winner was ANNIE SUMMER and low Net winner was DIANA DOWNEY. Many congratulations to the participants from the BridgeMill Ladies Golf Association. SEE PHOTOS OF ALL WINNERS AND PARTICIPANTS… Want to be part of a great golf organization? Ladies of all skill levels are welcome. Contact Vanessa at 770.314.0809 or Stacy at 770.846.3790. Our regular casual golf and games will begin again in April, but we play during the Winter – depending on the weather! Join us for 9 or 18 holes if you can.

GOLF NEWS MGA NEWS YOU CAN USE

by Jeff Graham

JOIN THE MGA BOARD Have you ever thought? I have a burning desire to promote and develop men’s golf, to promote fellowship and sportsmanship, to encourage active participation of all male members without regard to skill, to create and maintain a first class schedule of golf tournaments, and to generally create a superb golfing experience for all male members. If you did, we have an opportunity for you to be part of the BridgeMill MGA. In January 2022, the MGA body will elect 6 new members for the Board of Directors (BoD) and BoD then elects its officers and committee chairs to serve its members. Maybe now you are thinking … I am not sure I would like to be on the board, but I would like to help out with some of the MGA events and activities. Opportunity arises again as you can be part of one of the MGA committees with as little as an hour per month involvement. The committees are where the real work of the MGA gets done.

One unique benefit of this is that Academy players often get to hit and train with the college players! Players are divided by ability level and age. Drills focus on proper stroke technique, footwork, fitness, strategy, and mental toughness. The group meets Monday and/or Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 pm.
