BRIDGEMILL PARK & PLAYGROUND RULES AND SAFETY GUIDELINES Rules and Guidelines for this area include the Park Pavilion, open field, volleyball courts, basketball courts, and playground.

Parks and Playground areas are private Club property Members & Accompanied Guests are welcome.

Parks and Playground areas close at Dark.

Members are responsible for their child’s safety at all times.

Adult supervision is required for all children under 12.

Pets are not permitted in any sand areas. All pets must remain on-leash while on BridgeMill property.

No bikes, skateboards, skates, etc. permitted under the Pavilion.

Do not use sidewalk chalk underneath the Park Pavilion.

No food and beverage is allowed on the basketball and volleyball courts except in plastic sports bottles.

Baseballs, softballs and bats are not permitted in the park/ playground area, including the open field.

No profanity is allowed.

No running up the slides.

The infant swings are for small children assisted by an adult.

No sitting, walking or standing on the horizontal ladders.

Do not jump out of swings.

Keep small children away from the large children swings.

Glass is not permitted.

5 Tips to Help Maintain Your Weight During the Holidays

1. Stick To Your Plan and Expect to Succeed: It is estimated that the average American gains approximately 5 pounds during the Holiday season. This is likely because there was no plan in place. “If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail” If you don’t have a plan, MAKE ONE. There are plenty of online resources for help. (myfitnesspal.com, sparkpeople. com, fooducate.com) If you do, and you STICK TO IT, you cannot fail!! EXPECT TO SUCCEED and you will!!

2. Track Your Food: Tracking your food helps weight loss so if you’re diligent during the Holidays it will help you find places to cut back so you can indulge in a Holiday meal or enjoy grandma’s famous apple pie without feeling guilty because you kept to the caloric plan. Don’t skip your regular meals, you may be likely to overindulge later.

3. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise: Especially during this time, it is too easy to allow other obligations sidetrack you from a workout. Get extra exercise where you can, park further away from the mall entrance. Take 10minutes to walk during your lunch hour. If exercise is not part of your current schedule find a way to add it like an appointment to your doctor (that you would never think to miss).

4. Eat Mindfully and Control Alcohol Consumption: Eat with intention. If you’re going to indulge, be sure to choose something you know tastes good, and you’ll love, otherwise it’s just wasted calories. Eat slowly and focus on chewing your food well. Place your fork down and truly enjoy each bite, the smell, taste and texture of each item. Research shows when you take your time you are more likely to feel satisfied on less calories because you give your stomach time to tell your brain it is satisfied. Remember to track and control alcohol consumption. You’d be surprised how many calories you take in from alcohol (so make sure you log it right along with your food) 5. Be Easy On Yourself: If you get off track one day don’t throw in the towel, get over it and get right back on track the very next day. Remember you’ve experienced many temptations and slip-ups before and everyday there are challenges we face but remain strong and make the choices that help move you toward your goals.

Don’t allow the Holiday season to be the reason to get sidetracked from your very important health goals, and also don’t allow your health goals to sidetrack you from enjoying this special time of the year.

There is no reason to miss a workout during the Holiday Season. If you’re short on time, can’t make it to a class or the gym, Tabata workouts are a great way to get a very effective, quick workout right at home. You can also use any kind of exercise and as many as your time allows. Tabata workouts are done using a timer. If you don’t have a timer you can download one for free right on your phone or Ipad. The timer is set for 20 seconds of work with 10 seconds rest and each exercise is repeated 8 times for a total of 4 minutes of each exercise. Rest one minute between each exercise. Here is a good 20 minute cardio intense workout. Please remember if you have an orthopedic issue or you are new to Tabata, modify the workout as needed.

1. High Knees: Run in place lifting your knees up high.

2. Side to Side Shuffles: Position yourself in an athletic stance and shuffle side to side.

3. Jump Squats: Squat down and jump up using your arms for momentum, be sure to land with soft, springy knees.

4. Mountain Climbers: Begin in plank position on the hands, bring a knee in toward chest and quickly alternate knees.

5. Full Sit-Ups: Lie on your back with the knees bent and feet flat. Arms can cross in front of body or place the fingertips alongside the ears. Sit all the way up until the elbows pass the knees.

FITNESS INFERNO: Tuesdays 8:15am This moderate to high intensity workout combines 3 rounds of 10 cardiovascular exercises with body weight and strength exercises to burn substantial calories, and strengthen all major muscle groups.

H.I.I.T. BLAST: Wednesdays 9:15am High intensity interval training helps you be more efficient in less time. Short bursts of intense exercise followed by short recovery breaks. Bodyweight exercises , plyometrics, and other training techniques maybe used.

PUMP IT UP EXPRESS: Thursdays 7:30am This high energy, 30 minute, calorie scorching, cardio and muscle endurance class, utilizes light to moderate weights, with lots of repetitions, for a total body workout CARDIO KICKBOXING: Fridays 8:15am A fun, energetic class that combines choreographed movements of punches, kicks and knee strikes set to the latest music. Expect a full body workout that engages every muscle group, torches calories, build s lean muscle and improves flexibility, balance and coordination.

BOOT CAMP BASICS Saturdays 9:15am Get back to basics with this total body, heart pumping, conditioning class that combines traditional calisthenic and body weight exercises with intervals and strength training for an intense indoor workout.

BARRE/PILATES FUSION CLASS: Wednesdays 10:30am This full body conditioning class combines the fundamental principles of both Barre and Pilates.

Each class will work to balance all muscle groups’ strength and flexibility, with an emphasis on sculpting long, lean muscles while challenging the core with each movement. This low impact class is great for all ages and fitness levels.

NEW CLASS!! KINDSTRETCH: Fridays 9:30am Learn movement patterns that promote full body control to Improve flexibility, mobility and joint strength.

SENIOR FITNESS AND HEALTH CLASSES GO4LIFE: Tuesdays 1:00pm This Senior Health Fitness program is designed by the National Institute on Aging and focuses on fitting exercise and physical activity in to daily living. It is for any Active Aging Adult who is currently exercising or in need of a guide to get moving or be more active.

Individuals will exercise weekly, set goals, track progress, and receive nutrition guidance. SPECIALTY GROUP FITNESS Specialty group fitness programs are short term (4-8 week) sessions that are goal specific and include an added personal experience.

CARDIO/STRENGTH CIRCUIT CLASS

Mondays 7:00pm and Thursdays 9:00am with Andrea. This cardio/strength, small group class is held in the cardio weight room. It is performed in a circuit format that moves from cardio vascular machines to weight machines. The class is designed for all fitness levels to tone muscles and increase meta- bolic function for more calories burned over a longer period of time. Members must register for the class each month (4x per month $20, 8x per month $40).

INTRODUCTION TO FITNESS

Tuesday, December 10th at 7:00pm This is a once a month, small group, introduction to fitness class. It focuses on teaching proper use of the cardio and weight equipment, with an emphasis on how to get started and what options are available to help you reach your health and fitness goals. This is an introductory program facilitated by a certified personal trainer and designed to educate our youth on fitness center etiquette, equipment use and proper form on equipment in the CARDIO/WEIGHT ROOM ONLY. This program prepares our youth for future independent training.

TEEN INDEPENDENT EXERCISE PROGRAM Free, mandatory program for teens ages 13-14.

This is a mandatory, check-off program consisting of 4 classes with a certified trainer that prepares 13 and 14 year-olds to workout independently. GOLF NEWS WINTER GGP GOLF SPEED TRAINING AT BRIDGEMILL FITNESS CENTER The GGP Speed Training Program uses core training to transfer more power to the swing and uses lightweight training aids to increase swing speed. Golf swing speed increases when the body parts move in the correct order to produce an efficient golf swing. If your goal is to be shooting lower scores, then more speed and distance helps to get you there.

The GGP Speed Training Program has produced average clubhead speed gains of 10 mph for golfers of all ages and abilities. This program is year-round and will continue through the winter in the BridgeMill Fitness Center.

BALL RECYCLING Instead of launching your used or bad tennis balls out of the court please drop them off at the Pro Shop or leave them on the tray by the scorekeepers to be recycled. Old tennis balls have a multitude of uses after their tennis life has expired. Teachers, boaters & dog lovers are always calling us for old tennis balls. Plus, tennis balls do not disintegrate into the ground so to be kind to the earth please help us recycle tennis balls.

TENNIS JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAM The junior program at BridgeMill is designed to meet the needs of all our junior players starting at age 5 and up and recreational to advanced tournament players. The goal of our program is to instill a love for the game of tennis in our youth. We encourage and foster a healthy, active lifestyle that players carry with them throughout their lives. Our program is divided into categories based on ability and age. All programs focus on proper stroke development, footwork, fitness, strategy and mental toughness at an age and level appropriate manner.

Development groups meet for 1 hour. Check with the Tennis Pro Shop for development group class schedule & available space. New development groups will begin in February.

EXCEL ACADEMY

5-6 years – This group is for our youngest juniors with little or no tennis experience. Our goal in the program is to help children learn and enjoy the game of tennis while improving their overall athletic skills. We focus on basic motor skills like throwing, catching, running and jumping but also learn fundamental racket skills.

The Academy group is for intermediate to advanced players, ages 11 & up, who are committed to improving their game. This high energy group of players is striving to play tournaments, high school tennis or working to get a college scholarship. The Head Coach of the academy is Jennifer Pourchier who is also the Head Coach for the Reinhardt University tennis teams! One unique benefit of this is that Academy players often get to hit and train with the college players! Players are divided by ability level and age. Drills focus on proper strokes, footwork, fitness, strategy and mental toughness. The group meets Monday and/ or Wednesday from 5:00-7:00pm. This program runs throughout the school year.

7-10 years - These classes are for juniors with little or no tennis experience. We focus on developing athletic skills, fundamental stokes and learning how to play points and keep score.

2 days per week per month: $220/tennis & golf member $230/athletic member $250/non-member

11-16 years – This group is for players with little or no experience. Players will be taught every shot, how to score, how to play a match. This group is great for those aspiring to play on their high school teams and know what they are doing.

1 day per week per month: $135/tennis & golf member $140/athletic member $150/non-member

FRIENDLY REMINDER Please check in with the Pro Shop Attendant prior to play. The courts are in high demand so one person per court, whether from a team or individual reservation, should check in with the Pro Shop prior to their reserved court time to verify their court usage and pay any guest fees. The staff also will be able to let you know if there have been any changes to your court number at this time.

The tennis courts are for BridgeMill Athletic Club members and their guests only. Accompanied guest fees are $10.00 per person.

Athletic members and their guests are also required to pay the $10.00 per person court fee. Court fees should be paid before play. Unaccompanied guests are not allowed to use the tennis courts.

BRIDGEMILL SIXES SERVICE LEAGUE BSSL DECEMBER 2019 The winter season has arrived in BridgeMill and the BridgeMill Sixes Service League (BSSL) is finishing up our year with lots of fun things coming up in the New Year.

HOLIDAY CAROLING will be Tuesday December 3rd at The Manor at 6:30. All members are invited to attend and wear your finest holiday sweater. Spouses, children and grandchildren are invited and encouraged to dress up as well. The residents love our annual caroling event and the members have a great time as well. All are welcome to attend.

BSSL CHRISTMAS TREE is at RT Jones Library… please stop by to see all the trees that have been donated by local clubs and organizations. Several of our members (led by Jackie Dimbert and Nicole Shippy) decorated a tree in November and we think it is one of the best! Take a few minutes to browse the beautiful trees and pick up a favorite Christmas book while you are visiting this amazing library.

FOOD DRIVE…our sincere thanks to Ruth Clark, Debbie Joseph and Michelle Kibby for organizing the annual food drive which was held on November 9th. This is an event that takes weeks of organization and preparation and over a dozen volunteers to complete the pickup and delivery process. Our sincere thanks to these volunteers and all the residents of BridgeMill that donated nonperishable food items to help fill the shelves at MUST Ministries for the upcoming winter.

Our club does not meet in December in order to let our members have plenty of time with friends and family. Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 16th at 7PM at The Terrace. See photos below from the Halloween carnival and our October meeting honoring the birthday ladies!
