Adult supervision is required for all children under 12.

Pets are not permitted in any sand areas. All pets must remain on-leash while on BridgeMill property.

No bikes, skateboards, skates, etc. permitted under the Pavilion.

Do not use sidewalk chalk underneath the Park Pavilion.

No food and beverage is allowed on the basketball and volleyball courts except in plastic sports bottles.

Baseballs, softballs and bats are not permitted in the park/ playground area, including the open field.

The infant swings are for small children assisted by an adult.

Farewell to Anna & Patrick It has been a fun 15 years watching Anna Gustafson swim for the Bridgemill Barracudas. She started on the swim team when she was 4 years old!

Also, Patrick Dalhen has been swimming on the Bridgemill Barracuda swim team since kindergarten!

Congratulations to both of them as they go off to college. Patrick has several colleges and universities recruiting him for football, so we look forward to seeing where he decides to go. Anna has already finished her freshman year at UGA. We are excited for both of them and their amazingly bright futures!!

What is Pickleball and why you should try it?

Pickleball started in Washington State in the mid 1960’s and was a west coast sport for many years. Today, it is played in every state and is the fastest growing sport in America.

Pickleball is played on a badminton-sized court (⅓ the size of a tennis court) with smooth paddles and a special whiffletype plastic ball. Most Pickleball is played as doubles and the game has a friendly-social nature that can also be a fast-paced competitive sport. The sport is low-impact and is played by people of all ages.

MEET COACH RICK JOHNSON! Rick was introduced to the sport in 2016, and played casually, but really got bitten by the “Pickleball Bug” after our courts were completed earlier this year. Drawing on his 5 decades of tennis experience and competition, he fully immersed himself in learning the game for the past five months.

He took private lessons and honed his skills seven days a week at various venues around Atlanta. He also had the opportunity to work with several of the top pro players in the country.

Rick began the process to be certified as a Pickleball coach by the United Sates Pickleball Association (USAPA) in June and will be a fully certified and bonded coach this month.

SPECIALTY GROUP FITNESS Specialty group fitness programs are short term (4-8 week) sessions that are goal specific and include an added personal experience.

CARDIO/STRENGTH CIRCUIT CLASS Mondays 7:00pm and Thursdays 9:00am with Andrea. This cardio/ strength, small group class is held in the cardio weight room. It is performed in a circuit format that moves from cardio vascular machines to weight machines. The class is designed for all fitness levels to tone muscles and increase meta- bolic function for more calories burned over a longer period of time. Members must register for the class each month (4x per month $20, 8x per month $40).

This is an introductory program facilitated by a certified personal trainer and designed to educate our youth on fitness center etiquette, equipment use and proper form on equipment in the CARDIO/WEIGHT ROOM ONLY. This program prepares our youth for future independent training.

Participants will learn: Respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, body awareness and self-confidence.

As you approach, they ask if you want to play in their game. It’s a $10 Nassau with 2-down automatics and $5 trash. Despite not having any idea what you are getting into, you accept.

• Nassau- the front nine, back nine and 18-hole scores all count as separate events.

• 2-Down Automatics- When either side loses 2 consecutive holes, a new bet is started.

• Trash (Dots, Garbage, etc)- Individual contests- Birdies, Eagles, Closest to the Pin, Sandies, etc. Each having a predetermined value.

The courts are in high demand so one person per court, whether from a team or individual reservation, should check in with the Pro Shop prior to their reserved court time to verify their court usage and pay any guest fees. The staff also will be able to let you know if there have been any changes to your court number at this time.

The tennis courts are for BridgeMill Athletic Club members and their guests only.

Accompanied guest fees are $10.00 per person. Athletic members and their guests are also required to pay the $10.00 per person court fee. Court fees should be paid before play.

Unaccompanied guests are not allowed to use the tennis courts.

FALL JUNIOR TENNIS PROGRAM The junior program at BridgeMill is designed to meet the needs of all our junior players starting at age 5 and up and recreational to advanced tournament players.

The goal of our program is to instill a love for the game of tennis in our youth.

We encourage and foster a healthy, active lifestyle that players carry with them throughout their lives. Our program is divided into categories based on ability and age. All programs focus on proper stroke development, footwork, fitness, strategy and mental toughness at an age and level appropriate manner.

Players on BridgeMill league teams must be Tennis or Golf members in good standing. Captains must get approval from the Tennis Department before submitting a roster to the league. Posted in the Pro Shop is a list of players looking for teams and teams looking for players.

EXCEL FUTURE STARS – DEVELOPMENT GROUPS 5-7 years – This group is for our youngest juniors with little or no tennis experience. Our goal in the program is to help children learn and enjoy the game of tennis while improving their overall athletic skills. We focus on basic motor skills like throwing, catching, running and jumping but also learn fundamental racket skills. Classes are 45 minutes.

8-15 years - These classes are for juniors with little or no tennis experience. We focus on developing athletic skills, fundamental stokes and learning how to play points and keep score. Classes are 1 hour Development groups will begin the week of September 9th. Class schedule will be available in the Tennis Pro Shop.

EXCEL ACADEMY The Academy group is for intermediate to advanced players, ages 11 & up, who are committed to improving their game. This high energy group of players is striving to play tournaments, high school tennis or working to get a college scholarship. The Head Coach of the academy is Jennifer Pourchier who is also the Head Coach for the Reinhardt University tennis teams! One unique benefit of this is that Academy players often get to hit and train with the college players! Players are divided by ability level and age. Drills focus on proper strokes, footwork, fitness, strategy and mental toughness. The group meets Monday and/or Wednesday from 5:00-7:00pm. Sessions start the week of August 5.

Together, we can make a difference

It’s August and the BSSL is back to planning our fall activities to raise money for Cherokee County charities. If you would like to be part of this amazing group of women, please come to our August meeting on Thursday August 15th. We meet at the Terraces at 7 pm for a social time and our meeting starts promptly at 7:30 led by BSSL President Julie Rosenberg.

Please come as our guest and see for yourself what we have planned for the next few months.

Macmillan, a young man dedicated to advocating for animals in local shelters. At our monthly meeting in August, the BSSL will be collecting pet food to support the organization and the many animals it helps.

Friday, June 7th 88 golfers met at the BridgeMill Athletic Club to play golf and raise money for charity. There was a putting contest, contest for longest drive and closest to the pin, as well as a silent auction and amazing raffle prizes. The photos below show just a small amount of the fun that was the 7th annual Golf FORE Charity. We were blessed with cloudy, but dry, weather and headed out with a shotgun start after a light breakfast. Along the way, each golfer received a red and while golf umbrella showing the Wicked Wings logo as our title sponsor. We finished up the day with a buffet lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs and then with awards and accolades for our honoree, Cherokee County Sheriff Frank Reynolds.

Sheriff Reynolds chose this time to present a check for $500 to Bethany Place, a faith based home in Canton that provides shelter to women and children who have been abused.

Every other Thursday a team came together to pack lunches for MUST ministries. Our group met at New Life Church and packed 500 lunches in an hour at each session! What an amazing group that included our members, their spouses, their children and grandchildren, and a few neighbors! Thank you to our chairs Susan Gaines, Linda Emore, and Judy West.
