At the beginning of 2023, friends Amanda Spitz and Sarah Johnson decided they needed to get serious about carving out time in their busy schedules for physical fitness. Both women are wives, busy moms to three kids, professionals, and community volunteers.
In January of this year, the two friends decided to come up with a fitness plan they could work into their already busy lives. Both were already members of the Athletic Club, so the easiest and most convenient option was to meet at the Fitness Center for three group fitness classes each week. “The timing of the morning classes is perfect,” said Amanda. Together, thanks to the classes and healthier eating, the friends have lost 20 lbs. since Jan. 1 and say they are just getting started! They agreed that there are so many perks to the fitness classes at BridgeMill. “They are convenient since they are right in our neighborhood, and the variety of classes offered helps so we don’t get bored,” said Amanda. “We do more intense classes on Mondays and Wednesdays and then unwind with yoga on Fridays.”
“The balanced intensity of Andrea’s workouts encourage us to work harder than if we were just working out alone,” said Sarah. “My best advice to anyone in the same boat is to just come and check out a class. Chances are you’ll be hooked like we are.”
Cayden is the Kid-fit member spotlight this month because of his hard work in every class and his enthusiasm for fitness. He has been a part of the Kid-fit program for a few years. He loves to jump rope, and his favorite exercise is planks. (He is a master of side star planks). Cayden has become a leader in class, and he is always willing to demonstrate how to do our obstacle courses. He has made so much progress and is getting “Kid-fit strong”. Coach Holly is very proud of him.
Group fitness classes are a great way to surround yourself with like-minded individuals who are encouraging, supportive and motivate you to dig deeper and work harder during workouts. They provide structure and a plan to make working out easy for you. Group fitness instruction teaches proper form so your muscles will reap the benefits of each exercise. And let’s just say group classes are downright fun with the upbeat music, a great workout and a group of people motivating each other along the way. See all our group fitness classes on pages 16 & 17.
This one month nutrition/lifestyle makeover program is perfect for the individual who has “tried it all” to attain better health through diet and exercise yet remain stuck and frustrated year after year.
During the process we uncover the surprising and real truths about why people stay stuck. We educate individuals to help shift unhealthy, untrue thought patterns to new truth filled ones. We use proven methods and techniques to develop skills and habits that will empower you to a new level of sustainable health and wellness so you can live your best life ever!

LaBlast® Chair Fitness is a dance fitness program for every “body” that inspires the mind and will make you feel good from the inside out. Inspired by “Dancing with the Stars,” this class is a perfect balance of dance and fitness.
During class, you’ll move to dances like the Jive, Salsa, Foxtrot, Paso Doble, Viennese Waltz and more, incorporating music from all artists, genres and eras. Participants in LaBlast® Chair start it simple, build a solid foundation and advance over time, repeating patterns as needed before moving on. The LaBlast® motto is “if you can clap it, you can dance it™.” Even seated, you’ll engage the entire body while feeling safer and more comfortable.
Join us to learn the skill of dance while experiencing the physical aspects of exercise, all while seated.

It’s April and the BridgeMill Ladies are ready to play some golf! We kicked off our season on March 15 with a club event hosted by Troy called Tipsy Tee Time. We met for a little warm up at the range then had a shotgun start at 4:30 for 9 holes of fun. Troy drove around with golf tips and adult beverages to add to our great afternoon.
March 26th was our first tournament of the new season. Robin and Missie put together a scramble known as The String Tournament and we had some lively competition to the end. We finished off the day with lunch and prizes at Featherstone’s. Photos of both events will be in the next BM News Issue. We are starting a new format called “Getting to know the LGA” and we will have stories from 4 or 5 members in each issue. This Issue will spotlight our LGA Board…Molly, Robin, Missie, Karyn and Jill. Want to join in the fun? Contact Karyn Haydock at 845.283.2964 or Jill Lain at 404.694.7792
My golf goal for this season is to get my handicap down to 15. When not golfing, my next favorite activity is bowling. I started playing golf when I was 35, but it was not until I retired that I “really”played. I work at BMAC as a ranger/ starter and drive a bus for school activities. I am divorced with a daughter, son, daughter In law and a granddaughter. I also have a sweet black dog by the name of Neyland, wonder where that name came from? GBO!
I have lived in BM with my husband Chris for 13 years. We have a son, daughter in law, daughter and son in law, 2 granddaughters and 2 grand dogs. I started playing golf 10 years ago with a 9 hole group then joined the LGA when I retired from State Farm Insurance. When I am not playing at BridgeMill I love to golf at the City Club of Marietta. My favorite club is Ping 7 iron. I have two goals for this season…par hole 13 and play with each member of our LGA at least once.
I have lived in BM since May 2018. I have been married to my husband Bob for 32 years and we have a daughter Jordyn, a son Cody and our 90 lb lapdog Cujo. My most challenging hole is #14 cuz everyone knows the darn bunker is as big as the fairway! My favorite golf balls are Callaway Chrome and TaylorMade tour response. My personal goal is to make our fabulous golf instructor, Denise, proud. I hope to practice more to get my handicap down to a 14 cuz then she might give me a gold star for my refrigerator!
This season marks my 3rd year in the LGA. I grew up playing golf, but had not played in years until I attended a Tipsy Tee Time with my tennis teammate, Vanessa, and I was hooked! My golf goals are to improve my short game, increase my consistency, and lower my handicap. Last August I had my largest thrill since playing golf… a hole in one on #16! My husband Bret and I will celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary in June. We moved to BM in Oct 2018 and we love it!

We are excited to announce the 2023 Georgia Golf Performance Junior Developmental Tour. This junior tour is one of three key objective measuring tools we use in determining the placement of team GGP juniors within the Performance Pathway. The GGP Junior Tour was created to have a tournament our juniors can compete in to learn how to play tournaments in a safe, family-friendly environment. It also allows coaches to observe your junior in a tournament atmosphere, which helps in our coaching strategy. Juniors compete at special yardages that are based on their developmental age and skill set. All ages are welcome to participate in the tournaments.

The Academy group is for players with some tennis experience to advanced players, ages 8 & up, who are committed to improving their game. We also include 11–16-yearold beginner players in this group. This high energy group of players is striving to play tournaments, high school tennis or working to get a college scholarship. The Head Coach of the academy is Jennifer Pourchier who is also the Head Coach for the Reinhardt University tennis teams. One unique benefit of this is that Academy players often get to hit and train with the college players! Players are divided by ability level and age. Drills focus on proper stroke technique, footwork, fitness, strategy, and mental toughness. The group meets Monday and/or Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 pm. This program runs throughout the school year. New players can be added anytime if space is available.
