THE PROJECT This project proposes a Wellness Retreat for Musicians in Sewanee, Tennessee, designed as a retreat-style hospitality environment focused on mental, emotional, and creative restoration. The approximately 46,500-square-foot facility serves professional and emerging musicians experiencing stress and burnout, and includes guest suites, communal dining and gathering spaces, wellness classrooms, and acoustically separated individual and group music studios. Client goals prioritize a calm, restorative atmosphere that balances privacy and collaboration, with an emphasis on acoustics, natural light, and connection to the surrounding landscape. Social, economic, and cultural considerations address mental health in the music industry, creative career instability, and the role of a rural setting in supporting resilience and long-term well-being through climate-responsive design.

GUEST SUITE

CONCEPT

The Soundscape Retreat is a wellness retreat designed to support musicians’ mental health and creative recovery through environments that feel calm, grounded, and deeply restorative. The central concept for the retreat is the rhythm of a healthy heartbeat, which serves as an inspirational anchor that connects music, the body, and emotional balance. Music is built on pulse and tempo, yet the pressures of performance, constant productivity, and public expectation often disrupt musicians’ internal sense of balance and emotional regulation. Using the steady cadence of a heartbeat as its primary organizing principle, the retreat translates this rhythmic pulse into spatial sequences that alternate between moments of activity and rest. These sequences are expressed through layered wood surfaces, rhythmic slatted elements, grounded stone textures, muted earth-toned palettes, and soft, diffused natural light. Through controlled transitions, tactile materiality, acoustically responsive surfaces, and nature-integrated design strategies inspired by the surrounding Tennessee landscape, the design encourages emotional regulation, physical grounding, and creative renewal. This approach allows musicians to restore balance and return to their practice with clarity, focus, and long-term resilience.

THE PROJECT The Renata Recovery and Rehabilitation Center in Northeast Dallas was designed as a trauma-informed facility that supported women through substance use recovery in a safe and restorative environment. Recognizing that recovery is not solely a clinical process but also a deeply personal journey, the project integrated inpatient and outpatient treatment spaces, therapy rooms, life skills classrooms, a wellness suite, administrative areas, and a secured childcare facility. Inspired by architect Tye Farrow, the design incorporated natural wood, biophilic principles, daylight, and soothing color palettes to convey warmth, dignity, and resilience. Circulation was carefully organized to balance privacy and community, with restorative quiet zones complemented by shared courtyards, a day room, and a welcoming cafeteria. The result was a therapeutic environment where architecture fostered safety, autonomy, and renewal.

CONCEPT

The Renata Recovery and Rehabilitation Center was conceived as a landscape of renewal, where space itself became a gentle partner in healing. Light and shadow, texture and rhythm, nature and stillness were woven together to create an environment that honored presence and possibility. Like the inner rings of wood, each woman’s journey left its own imprint; moments of challenge, resilience, and growth were inscribed in layers over time. The architecture reflected these unfolding chapters, holding space for both vulnerability and strength. It was a place that did not define women by struggle but celebrated their dignity and capacity to transform. Here, healing was not a destination but an unfolding—quiet, resilient, and deeply human.

THE PROJECT This project involved designing a boutique hotel in Japan that balanced traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern hospitality. The design drew inspiration from Japanese culture and craftsmanship while incorporating contemporary amenities to enhance guest comfort and convenience. Sustainable materials, efficient space planning, and thoughtful design solutions were utilized to create a welcoming and immersive experience. Special consideration was given to environmental responsibility, structural resilience, and the unique needs of both local and international travelers. The final design aimed to provide a tranquil retreat that celebrated cultural authenticity while supporting modern lifestyles and hospitality standards.

HOTEL CHECK IN/RECEPTION

CONCEPT

On the southeast coast of Japan, the boutique hotel seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary luxury, offering guests an immersive cultural retreat. Inspired by the principles of Zen aesthetics, the design embraces simplicity, natural materials, and harmonious balance. Every space is thoughtfully curated to evoke serenity and sophistication, featuring shoji screens, tatami flooring, handcrafted woodwork, and soft ambient lighting. Integrating indoor gardens, water features, and panoramic views of nature fosters a deep connection to the surroundings, enhancing relaxation and mindfulness.

This headquarters was a creative sanctuary where beauty, purpose, and innovation came to life.

RETAIL SPACE

CONCEPT

The new headquarters embodied the brand’s values of authenticity, inclusivity, and self-expression. The commercial building served as a vibrant place for creativity and innovation, reflecting the brand’s commitment to redefining beauty standards while promoting a sense of community and empowerment. The design featured organic, flowing architecture that integrated natural elements with modern aesthetics. There were soft, curvilinear forms with a soft, neutral color palette, accented by pops of color that reflected the brand’s identity. An open layout extended throughout the space, prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity. Workspaces and gathering areas were designed to encourage collaboration and creativity among diverse teams.
