DUDLEY HOGUE
Thank you for coming to Disney Pride in Concert! Thanks to your support, Heartland Men’s Chorus Kansas City is proud to be headlining their first concert at the beautiful Muriel Kauffman Theatre in over a decade.
Our very important work continues. As you all know, arts organizations of all types were hit especially hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Not being able to present live concerts and events, many have struggled since that time. It also seems that every time we take a step forward with civil rights for all, we take two steps backward. The LGBTQIA+ community is under attack in many states and across the county as a whole, and HMCKC is smack dab in the middle of it all.
But here at Heartland Men’s Chorus Kansas City – our support never wavered. You out-performed other arts organizations with your donations, virtual ticket purchases, and other support, and HMCKC has grown as a result! Since we’ve been able to perform live, our singing membership has grown, our season ticket base has grown, our audiences have grown, our community exposure has grown and our sponsorships and grant support has grown. We are here – we are strong – and we will continue the important work of singing to inspire a world of love and acceptance.
The Chorus has worked incredibly hard to bring you a montage of Disney music in this concert. Some of our personal stories will be shared as well, highlighting the impact of Disney in our community and in our lives. It is one way that we continue to build community, celebrate pride, and empower authenticity.
Exciting plans are being finalized for our 38th season of presenting wonderful entertainment to the Kansas City region. Make sure you sign up for season information in the lobby today so you’ll be in the know regarding concerts, events, and other exciting happenings in the way that only HMCKC can bring them to you!
This princess wanna’ be hopes you enjoy the show!

Welcome to the beautiful Muriel Kauffman Theater and the Wonderful World of Disney! It’s been 10 years since HMCKC last headlined at The Kauffman Center for Performing Arts, and we can’t think of a more magical production for our triumphant return! This first-of-its-kind collaboration with Disney Concerts, Inc., has marked an exciting opportunity for HMCKC to blend our authentic legacy of storytelling with the beloved music of Disney and Pixar films!
Disney movies and musicals have long resonated deeply in the LGBTQ+ community because they often mirror experiences in our society that haven't always been welcoming or accepting. Characters are often struggling to fit in or to accept themselves while longing for a love that feels unattainable. Some have lost their family of origin and had to create a new one, yet they stayed the course and carved their own adventure to find authenticity and joy. They express their alienation, desire, and determination in beautiful songs that have given solace and empowerment to generations of LGBTQ+ people. In these performances, Disney’s beloved catalog of songs has been reimagined through this LGBTQ+ lens in a musical celebration of life, love, family, and perseverance.
Disney Pride in Concert draws inspiration from iconic Disney and Pixar films along with the magical music of Disney Parks. This multimedia extravaganza features HMCKC’s 140 voices and a 25-piece orchestra accompanied by animation from Disney’s films and archives. In addition, members of our chorus will provide heartwarming personal stories interwoven throughout to showcase the individual meaning and connections drawn from Disney’s timeless and universal music.
On a personal note, working on this production with the members of HMCKC has been a personal dream come true! We hope that you have a stunning ride on this Disney musical roller coaster and that you laugh and smile ’til it hurts, cry a few tears, and leave inspired by our message of love, acceptance, and perseverance!
Thank you so much to our incredible Kansas City community and treasured guests from around the country for being here as continued support of our mission and vision.

Heartland Men’s Chorus Kansas City is the largest LGBTQIA+ cultural organization in the Great Plains. We’ve witnessed so many wonderful changes over our 37 years of singing, yet many challenges still exist, especially in Kansas and Missouri. Only with your support can we continue to make a difference!
ON THE BOOKS OR IN YOUR HEART
Despite the progress and setbacks in the Supreme Court or in the voting booth, people make decisions based upon what is in their hearts and minds. That’s why HMCKC creates programming that is musically excellent and socially relevant at a time when people are seeking clarity and understanding of neighbors, friends, family members and themselves.
HMCKC SERVES THE COMMUNITY
When Heartland Men’s Chorus sings, the entire community benefits. We have also sung at hundreds of events in support of area non-profit organizations including the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund, Literacy Kansas City, UMKC Pride Breakfast and so many more.
It’s not fake news when The Kansas City Star writes: “Heartland Men’s Chorus is one of the most beloved artistic institutions in Kansas City.”
A NATIONAL REPUTATION
HMCKC is recognized as one of the premier LGBTQIA+ choruses in the nation from an artistic and administrative perspective. HMCKC is widely respected for its performances at national GALA Choruses Festivals, statewide conferences and performances throughout the region. Being a leading arts organization is only possible with strong commitment from our members, staff and patrons. Thank you for your support of our voices and our mission.

HEARTLAND SOUL
Heartland Soul is an esteemed group that supports the Heartland Men’s Chorus with individual unrestricted gifts of $750 or more each year. Members recognize that the Chorus provides a unique voice in the arts in the Kansas City metro area and surrounding region, and that through music we can truly make a difference. They also recognize that HMCKC is a proud and affirming presence for the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond. Heartland Soul members know that their financial support allows HMCKC to continue its mission and vision with programming that not only entertains, but changes hearts and minds.
HEARTLAND SOUL MEMBERS RECEIVE SEVERAL BENEFITS:
• Invitation to Heartland Soul Receptions.
• Invitation to guest artist receptions (when applicable) to meet guest artists and learn about the “behind the scenes” preparation of HMCKC programs.
• Free parking in the adjacent garage for all of our concerts.
• Preferred subscriber upgrades for season tickets.
• Honorary numbered Heartland Soul lapel pin denoting membership.
The following people are the current members of Heartland Soul. We gratefully thank them for their generous support of the music and mission of Heartland Men’s Chorus.

BECOME PART OF THE MUSIC
There is room for everyone in Heartland Men’s Chorus Kansas City: singers, non-singers, men, women, old or young. You can become a part of Kansas City’s most unique Chorus!
INTERESTED IN SINGING WITH HEARTLAND MEN’S CHORUS?
Auditions for new singers take place at the beginning of each concert cycle, in September, January and April.
First, come check us out! You’ll have a chance to get to know us by coming to our first two rehearsals of the concert cycle on Tuesdays from 6:30–9:30 p.m. in Founder’s Hall at Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral (13th Street and Broadway in downtown Kansas City, Mo.). Contact the chorus office (hmc@hmckc.org) so we’re ready to welcome you! After that, you’ll schedule a short vocal audition with our artistic director. If all goes well, the final step is attending our New Member Orientation and you’re in! If you can’t wait, or you’ve missed the start of the cycle, you are invited to visit rehearsal any time.
INTERESTED IN NON-SINGING OPPORTUNITIES WITH THE CHORUS?
Those who don’t sing or can’t make the weekly rehearsal commitment are invited to join our non-singing fifth section, HeartLight. This group gives an opportunity for interested people to be members of the Chorus and provide a wide range of essential support functions. HeartLight members are incorporated into Chorus events as their personal schedules permit. If you would like to know more about HeartLight, or you would like to volunteer specific skills to the Chorus, please contact the Chorus office at (816) 931-3338 or hmc@hmckc.org.
