Advancing HLS Key Strategic Priorities REACH BROADER AUDIENCES OF LEARNERS Sustained and expanded participation in our flagship programs, Leadership in Law Firms and Leadership in Corporate Counsel, which continue to exceed enrollment targets and remain premier offerings in the market. Advanced a long‑standing key institutional partnership: In the 15th year of our collaboration with Milbank LLP, we delivered our 62nd module for the Milbank Associates Program and led our 9th Milbank Corporate Counsel program for Milbank partners and clients. The partnership has been renewed through AY 2030. Provided critical back office and advising support to HLS Online, including marketing, enrollment management, and Salesforce system support.
Executed a comprehensive marketing strategy to recruit participants for all open‑enrollment programs, emphasizing both new and existing audiences: Launched marketing campaigns for the refreshed International Finance and our newest program, Leading AI Transformation in Legal Practice. Tested new audiences and creative approaches in social media advertising, including targeting non‑legal professional services firms. Optimized program webpages for AI‑driven search (Generative Engine Optimization). Initiated a new content series to feature alumni stories on the website, starting with two-time HLS EE alum Joan Roca, Executive Chair and Partner RocaJunyent. Provided advising and support to HLS Communications and HLS Online colleagues on digital advertising.
Achieved a strong custom program renewal rate from FY26 to FY27. Of the 9 custom program clients we served in FY26 (for whom we delivered 13 programs), we anticipate 8 clients will renew and offer at least one program in FY27. This represents an 88.9% renewal rate, compared to 44% at HKS and 80% at HBS. Deepened engagement with custom clients, including: Delivering a second judiciary‑focused leadership program with the National Judicial College (NJC), where state, federal, and international judges participated in an intensive four‑day curriculum designed to strengthen judicial leadership and promote cross‑jurisdictional exchange. Entering our second year of engagement with O'Melveny hosting two leadership programs for cohorts of their partners. These programs focus on personal, team, and organizational leadership and strategy. This multi-year engagement will continue with at least two programs per year until all their partners have been trained at HLS EE. Continued collaboration with the Program on International Financial Systems (PIFS) to offer three programs: the IOSCO/PIFS–Harvard Law School Global Certificate Program (delivered at HLS), Advanced Certificate Program on Financial Technology Innovation (delivered in Qatar), and The Evolving Role of Digital Assets in the Global Financial System (delivered at HLS).
SERVE AS A RESOURCE AND GUIDE FOR LEGAL INDUSTRY AS AI RESHAPES THEIR WORK Launched Leading AI Transformation in Legal Practice, our newest open enrollment program to be delivered in December 2026. It is designed for senior law firm leaders, chief officers, general counsel, and other senior inhouse professionals and will address the strategic, organizational, and management dimensions of AI, helping participants: Navigate the evolving legal AI landscape. Make sound Build/Buy/Compose decisions. Lead organizational change and design governance aligned with ethics and regulation. Rethink business models and resourcing. Build a cross market, global peer network facing similar AI strategy and implementation challenges.
Expanded AI and the Law: Navigating the New Legal Landscape, a joint program with the Berkman Klein Center, by adding one day of four experiential sessions, and hosted a record 68 participants, with more than 20 additional prospective participants on the waitlist.
FINANCIAL IMPACT AND SUPPORT Contributed $5.22M in unrestricted funds to HLS. These funds are allocated at the Dean’s discretion to support degree student financial aid, clinical programs, the Negotiation Workshop, and other critical institutional priorities. Provided $302K in tuition assistance across our programs, enabling 31 participants to attend who might otherwise have been unable to do so. This investment broadens access to our offerings, introduces our programs to new organizations, and extends our impact to sectors with more limited professional development funding. Implemented strategic cost management initiatives that increased our departmental contribution to HLS by 6%, from 48% in FY25 to 52% in FY26, while maintaining an exceptional participant experience. Efforts included reassessing key elements of the program experience, considering a broader range of vendors, and adjusting team job responsibilities–all of which yielded meaningful savings in overall program costs.

FOSTER OPEN, LIVELY, SERIOUS, AND CIVIL DISCOURSE TO CREATE A STRONGER GLOBAL LEGAL PROFESSION. Convened a mixed audience of law firm partners, general counsel, public sector lawyers, judges, and legal business professionals from a wide range of organizations. The diversity of our participants and our ability to translate leadership frameworks and tools for lawyers in all types of settings helps us to foster richer discussions, broader exchange of perspectives, and deeper sharing of innovative practices across the legal profession. Offered several open-enrollment programs for mixed cohorts of lawyers from all settings, including The Future of Legal (FOL), Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI), Impactful Leadership: Enhancing your Strategic Influence (ILI), and AI and the Law: Navigating the New Legal Landscape (LAI). These programs have solidified over the last three years, making them reliable growth-stage offerings in our portfolio. For law firms including Milbank, McDermott Will & Emery, and PwC Legal, we provided client-partner programs that allowed the law firms partners to bring their general counsel clients to our classroom to learn about leadership together. Continued to incorporate workshops, smallgroup, and experiential exercises into all programs—and remain committed to doing so —to foster discussion and create opportunities for sharing and learning. Included sessions on developing EQrelated skills and empathy, giving and receiving feedback, and engaging more productively across lines of difference in high-stakes settings in nearly all our open and custom enrollment programs. Faculty who helped lead this effort include Scott Westfahl (HLS), Michele DeStefano (HLS), Faryai Chipungu (HKS), Chris Robichaud (HKS), Julia Minson (HKS), Robert Wilkinson (HKS), Laura Tuach (HDS).
Strengthened partnership with the HLS Center on the Legal Profession by engaging across a range of activities: Hosting CLP sponsored events in our Executive Education classroom and lounge including a reception for the September 2025 Celebration of Black Alumni, the April 2026 Understanding Law as a New Asset Class Workshop, and the June 2026 AI workshop, Moving from Adoption to Responsible Impact. Collaborating to engage Microsoft on a meaningful refresh of all the technology assets used in the Executive Education classroom and lounge. Using our Leadership in Corporate Counsel participants to launch the new CLP research project examining a question that has become one of the hardest in the legal industry: not whether in-house teams are adopting AI, but how to measure absorption and impact. Featuring an HLS alumnus in The Practice lead story entitled, Transformation in the Latin American Legal Market.
Teaching full-time practitioners is fun, interesting, and rewarding—they come prepared not only to engage in class, but to translate what they're learning into action after they leave. - John Coates John F. Cogan, Jr. Professor of Law and Economics Deputy Dean Research Director, Center on the Legal Profession
EMBRACE PEDAGOGICAL INNOVATION TO EQUIP PARTICIPANTS WITH RELEVANT, PRACTICE‑READY TRAINING FOR TODAY’S LEGAL CHALLENGES. Renewed our collaboration with the Berkman Klein Center to offer a second sold-out iteration of AI and the Law: Navigating the New Legal Landscape. This offering included newly designed richer learning experiences, emphasizing hands‑on, practice‑based sessions. Participants now work through experiential exercises, real‑world scenarios, and guided exploration of AI tools used in legal and business contexts. A similar hackathon‑style experience will anchor our new program on AI in legal practice in AY 2026–2027. Refreshed the International Finance: Policy, Regulation, and Transactions program for summer 2026, including all new recorded lectures and new interviews with leading banking and regulation industry experts.

Expanded our Case Portfolio Hamilton Locke: A Challenger Firm in a Portfolio World, first taught in Leadership in Law Firms 2025 and significantly revised in 2026, examines how the founders—including a two-time HLS EE alum—used LLF concepts to redesign culture, compensation, and governance to better align strategy and collaboration. Participants track Hamilton Locke’s rapid growth into one of Australia’s fastest growing law firms and consider the strategic options for the firm’s next phase. AutoCorp: Transforming the Legal Function, developed in partnership with PwC, is a fictional composite case that follows a global automotive manufacturer whose new General Counsel faces a nonnegotiable cost out mandate, a fragmented legal function, and accelerating regulatory and technological change. Participants explore how in-house leaders can reposition Legal from a cost center to a strategic enabler while making difficult decisions about governance, technology, sourcing, and talent. Developed new sessions on moral compass decision-making for general counsel and outside counsel, focusing first on how to stay anchored in a sense of meaning and purpose in uncertain times, and second on how to step back from a morally complex situation and ask important questions intentionally before reacting less thoughtfully. Began development of several cases to be used in AY26-27 that tackle AI‑driven innovation, next‑stage growth for successful firms, and how to build a firm grounded in purpose and meaning.

One of the strengths of HLS EE is our ability to convene faculty from across Harvard and other institutions to teach in cross-disciplinary environments. This convening not only benefits our program participants by giving them exposure to a unique variety of viewpoints and expertise but also provides valuable connections among the teaching faculty. Investing in new faculty development is critical to the long-term success of our program, as working with new faculty not only allows us to strengthen our existing programs, but also allows us to feature new relevant curriculum and expand our programming. The new faculty in FY26 were Julie Brill (HLS) and Ruth Okediji (HLS).
An Invitation At Harvard Law School Executive Education, we are proud of what we have accomplished this year: designing new innovative sessions and cases; expanding our AI offerings to guide legal leaders; strengthening long‑term partnerships and developing new ones; and advancing operational excellence to enable us to serve more participants while contributing meaningfully to HLS’s mission and financial health. Our programs bring together a truly global audience of legal leaders—spanning in‑house counsel, law firm partners, government officials, and business executives—who come to HLS to learn from our faculty and from one another. 2027 marks the 20th anniversary of HLS Executive Education, and we hope the entire HLS community will join us in celebrating this milestone. We invite faculty and colleagues across HLS to learn more about: Teaching in HLS EE programs. Collaborating on new cases and experiential learning. Partnering with us to design custom offerings for organizations from around the world. We welcome your ideas for how we can extend our reach, enrich the learning experience, and deepen our impact on the global legal profession. Reach out and be part of shaping the next decade of HLS Executive Education.

I was fortunate to learn alongside a talented and experienced group of peers whose perspectives added so much to this incredible program. - Lilia Bogomilsky Assistant General Counsel, Borden Ladner Gervais LLP
