he Robert A. Mathavious Memorial Trust has been established to continue the legacy of compassion and service exemplified by the late Dr. Robert A. Mathavious, OBE. Guided by his lifelong commitment to helping others, the Trust aims to provide support and resources for individuals and families affected by kidney disease. Through community initiatives, educational programmes, and assistance for those undergoing treatment, the Trust seeks to bring hope and relief to those facing this challenging condition. It stands as a tribute to a man whose life was defined by integrity, service, and care for others. For more than three decades, Dr. Robert Anderson Mathavious made international cooperation the central theme of the British Virgin Islands’ financial services strategy. He believed, and proved, that credibility abroad begins with strong institutions at home, and that the BVI must be present, prepared, and principled wherever

standards are set. He consistently argued for cooperation to strengthen domestic and global financial services, while directing and lending support to efficient and effective law enforcement to protect the financial services perimeter. He believed in the development of standards to curb the abuse and misuse of financial services vehicles and the occurrence of financial crimes as a mechanism to promote financial stability. In this process, he advocated a genuine level playing field, with established rules applied fairly to all jurisdictions globally. Dr. Mathavious always strongly advocated and ensured the BVI’s presence at key global conferences where global standards were being discussed and developed to ensure that the BVI’s voice was heard.
