Public Services Level 2

This course includes preparatory practical training and theoretical study to progress in the public services industry including the police, armed forces, fire service and ambulance service.

This outstanding practical course will help you develop the skills necessary for working within the uniformed public services. You’ll benefit from a wide range of public service-related outdoor and adventurous activities which could include gorge walking, climbing, canoeing, kayaking and hill walking. In addition, you will have the opportunity to take part in an overnight residential, participate in ongoing fitness training (relevant to public service entrance tests), learn self-defence and conflict management, as well as gain knowledge from visits to a diverse range of public sectors. Your tutors work closely with the police, fire and ambulance services as well as the armed forces to ensure that you receive relevant and up-to-date teaching. You will have the opportunity to develop key attributes, such as communication skills, flexibility, teamwork skills and the ability to think and work independently. All of these skills are crucial to public service work. Progressing to the Level 3 course is an ideal route to university-level study in a relevant area.

Qualification Level 2 Diploma in Uniformed Public Services

Duration One year

Course Content You will cover a diverse range of topics throughout your course. A selection of unit titles is shown below. • Public Service Skills • Crime and its Effects on Society • Sport and Recreation in the Public Services • Adventure Activities • Driving in the Public Services • Health, Fitness and Lifestyle for Public Services

Assessment is continuous, with assignments, projects and practical work. All full-time students are required to study maths and English at the appropriate level. Please see page 6 for more details.

Entry Requirements • Four GCSEs at grade 2 (grade E) or above (to include maths and English) or successful completion of a suitable and relevant Level 1 Qualification • Successful interview and performance on taster day • Applicants will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the chosen subject area
