t si l’habitation était conçue pour rassembler les citoyens dans des milieux de vie axés sur la solidarité ? Le projet « Habiter le Nord québécois : Mobiliser, comprendre, imaginer » est un partenariat de recherche basé à l’École d’architecture de l’Université Laval qui s’intéresse à l’aménagement durable des milieux de vie du Nunavik et du Nitassinan. Il regroupe des chercheurs et des étudiants universitaires, des élus et des citoyens des villages, ainsi que des professionnels de l’aménagement qui partagent leur savoir dans un esprit de collaboration. Ils ont pour objectif commun d’imaginer un avenir possible et favorable pour les communautés, en respectant leur cadre de vie et en impliquant les différents acteurs de l’aménagement.

Pour relever le défi du développement des villages nordiques de façon innovante, le design est l’approche préconisée. Les partenaires du projet sont appelés à imaginer une multitude de possibilités. Puisqu’ensemble ils possèdent des savoirs de toutes formes (incluant des savoirs traditionnels), ils unissent leurs connaissances, leurs données, leurs expériences et leurs aspirations dans le but d’élaborer des visions futures.

Deux ateliers d’Habiter le Nord québécois ont été mis sur pied en collaboration avec des professionnels de l’aménagement et des citoyens de Salluit, qui ont conçu des projets autour d’une question commune : quels pourraient être les avantages d’un habitat qui mise sur la proximité entre les maisons et les familles ?

Dans un contexte de changements climatiques – dégel du pergélisol, réchauffement des saisons, impacts sur la faune –, de croissance des villages et d’initiatives de développement local, les concepteurs ont émis l’hypothèse que bien des défis pourraient être relevés grâce à ce scénario tourné vers la solidarité.

With communities facing challenges like climate change (thawing permafrost, hotter seasonal temperatures and impacts on wildlife), village population growth and increasing local development initiatives, these designers have come up with a single common response : collaboration is key.

The exercise actually lies in students and locals working together on fleshing out and designing realistic scenarios to form a sort of incubator of ideas. Doing so helps the working groups come to solutions that respond to local realities and anticipate planning challenges that the future may hold, all in the best interests of affected communities.
