Company Background • The Hong Kong Repertory Theatre is the longest standing and largest professional theatre company in the city, established in 1977 and incorporated in 2001. Financially supported by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Hong Kong Repertory operates under the guidance of its Governing Council, and employs a team of over 70 full-time professionals including the artistic director, resident director, actors, technical and stage management staff as well as administrators.

• Since its establishment 39 years ago, it has presented more than 300 productions, many of which have become classics of the local theatre canon.

Missions

•To produce and develop a high quality, innovative and diverse repertoire, encompassing Chinese, international, classic, and contemporary theatre, as well as original new works by local artists.

•To develop the audiences’ interest and appreciation of theatre and to enrich the city’s cultural life, through its leadership position as the city’s flagship theatre company.

Area of Activities

•A Balanced Repertoire – A selected programme of local original works, and translations and adaptations of classic and contemporary plays from the Mainland and internationally. The company collaborates with playwrights, directors, actors, designers and other talent within and outside of the company, to create new mainstream theatre productions of artistic excellence.

•Black Box Theatre – Flexible in approach, the Black Box Theatre provides a space where writers and practitioners can explore, take risks and experiment to create new material and modes of performances, in order to cultivate and stretch the boundaries of theatre arts.

•Theatre Education – Bringing theatre to life through courses and workshops, the company aims to provide theatre education and skills development for adults and children via the many facets of theatre. It also works to increase the audiences’ awareness towards theatre arts through dedicated performances for students as well as the wider community.

•International Exchange – Through the strengthening of exchanges with the Mainland and internationally, the company tours regularly in order to promote Hong Kong’s local theatre culture, and to develop

opportunities for collaborations and performances across the border and overseas.

•Theatre Literature – Through a varied programme of new writing development, Reader’s Theatre, seminars, reviews and publication of theatre literature, the company aims to encourage, document, preserve and consolidate creative activities in theatre.

香港話劇團國際黑盒劇場節2016以「文本霓虹 折射人文光譜」為主題，誠 意送上一場國際劇場盛宴，並由荷蘭阿姆斯特丹劇團的《人聲》（ La voix humaine）掀起序幕。 《人聲》在全球多個藝術節演出贏得擊節讚賞，今次非常榮幸邀得《人聲》 參節，著實是一次寶貴的藝術交流！一齣看似簡單的女性獨腳戲，卻蘊藏 著多位舉足輕重的創作人的心思：著名法國詩人及導演肖恩‧谷克多（Jean Cocteau）編寫的精彩文本，由2015倫敦羅蘭士‧奧利花獎最佳導演得主、 阿姆斯特丹劇團藝術總監伊沃‧凡‧賀夫（Ivo van Hove）創意執導，再由 演技出眾而享負盛名的哈利娜‧萊恩（Halina Reijn）演繹，配合恩‧瓦斯維 費爾德（Jan Versweyveld）獨到的舞美設計。從台前到幕後，絕對是一齣不 容錯過的大師示範佳作！ Ivo van Hove善於把經典文本重現並賦予新的意義，在《人聲》中，他以當 代的敘述視點、舞台美術和演員的表演手法，重新給Jean Cocteau這部近90 年前的經典注入新鮮的元素，令故事變得如斯真實可信！Halina Reijn飾演不 甘分手、不斷給前度情人打電話的女子，以獨腳戲的形式演活飽受折磨且被 矛盾思緒困擾的一份孤獨。另在Jan Versweyveld的「盒子」設計內，觀眾有 如窺探女主角講電話一樣，每分每秒跟隨著主角的情緒起伏跌宕。 為了能與更多觀眾分享重量級的《人聲》，我們特意在大會堂劇院進行這個 「盒子」演出。《人聲》只是國際黑盒劇場節2016的頭盤，今年10月至11 月，香港話劇團黑盒劇場將會有來自日本、南韓、香港，以及威爾斯、台 北、香港攜手合作的精彩劇目，配合各地創作人現身分享寫作不同文本心得 的工作坊，此劇場節恍如一席匯聚環球劇場精英的盛宴。

Message from Artistic Director

Hong Kong Repertory Theatre presents its International Black Box Festival 2016, under the theme of "The Colours of Humanity". This season, we offer a sumptuous feast of productions from around the globe, opening with La voix humaine by the Toneelgroep Amsterdam.

La voix humaine has already received critical acclaims in numerous arts festivals overseas. We are honoured to include this work in our festival this time: What an invaluable opportunity for artistic exchange! On the surface, La voix humaine is a deceptively simple play about a single woman. This production is the brainchild of a number of supremely creative minds: the enthralling script by French poet and director Jean Cocteau is directed by Ivo van Hove, 2015 Laurence Olivier Award-winner and General Director of the Toneelgroep Amsterdam. The lone actress on stage is the celebrated and distinguished Halina Reijn, playing within a unique set designed by Jan Versweyveld. This masterful production of a dramatic masterpiece is a not-to-be-missed theatrical experience!

Ivo van Hove is a doyen in injecting new ideas into classics. In La voix humaine, he applies a contemporary narrative, set design and performance style, breathing new life into Cocteau’s work from nearly nine decades ago, making the story relevant to our world today! Halina Reijn plays a woman unwilling to let go of her ex-lover, whom she tries to hold on in her phone conversations. In this emotional rollercoaster of a monologue, she epitomizes the suffering and exasperations inherent in loneliness. The “box” design by Jan Versweyveld also forces the audience in the role of “peeping toms,” overhearing her conversations and taking part in her emotional ride.

In order to accommodate more audiences for such a tour de force, we present this production in Hong Kong City Hall Theatre. La voix humaine is the foretaste of our International Black Box Festival this season. In October and November, the HKRep Black Box will present outstanding productions from Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, as well as a coproduction among Wales, Taipei and Hong Kong. There will also be workshops featuring creative theatre professionals from different cultures sharing their experience and insights. This year’s International Black Box Festival is like a feast gathering the best of the best in theatre from around the world.

阿姆斯特丹劇團 Toneelgroep Amsterdam

With an annual average of 20 plays, of which 5 new ones, and performing a total of over 350 performances, the company plays to audiences of close to 120,000 each year. Toneelgroep Amsterdam operates on an international level, working with guest directors such as Robert Woodruff (US), Krzysztof Warlikowski (POL), Johan Simons (NL), Grzegorz Jarzyna (POL), Thomas Ostermeier (GER) and also performs outside the Netherlands on stages in Germany, the US, France, Austria and Belgium. The company has been invited by festivals such as Ruhrtriennale (DE), Wiener Festwochen (A) and Festival d'Avignon (FR), and is now moving on to perform in the United States, Russia and Australia. Awarded repertoires of Toneelgroep Amsterdam include Shakespeare's Roman Tragedies and The Taming of the Shrew, Tony Kushner's Angels in America, Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage and John Cassavetes’ Opening Night.

肖恩．谷克多 Jean Cocteau (1889-1963) 法國詩人、藝術家與電影人肖恩．谷克多投身戲劇行業初期，曾撰寫芭蕾舞劇本。他在巴黎遇上當時富有影響力的 藝術家，如畢加索、狄亞基列夫與史特拉汶斯基。第一次世界大戰後，他創辦了海妖出版社，目的是出版自己的詩 作。1923年，他的年少情人兼繆斯雷蒙德．拉蒂桂去世後，谷克多因吸食鴉片染上毒癮，自此影響了往後的生活 與工作。他首次發表劇作—《奧菲斯》與《可怕的孩子們》便一舉成名。 30 年，谷克多首次涉足電影，拍攝 《詩人之血》。在同一時期，他寫成了《地獄的機器》、改編《伊狄帕斯王》、創作《人聲》，《人聲》更被普朗 克譜寫成歌劇。在二次大戰期間，谷克多長期不事創作，努力戒掉自己的毒癮。後來他整裝再次出發，鼓勵他的人 是肖恩．馬萊。肖恩．馬萊是位演員，也是谷克多的情人。45年，兩人合作的《美女與野獸》創造了電影歷史。到 了上世紀50年代，谷克多更致力於平面設計、舞台佈景與室內設計。谷克多於55年獲選為法蘭西學院院士。63年 10月11日，谷克多因心臟病發辭世。逝世前不久，他收到好友伊蒂．琵雅芙死訊的噩耗。 The French poet, artist and film maker Jean Cocteau started his career by writing libretti for ballet. In Paris, he came into contact with influential artists like Pablo Picasso, Sergei Diaghilev and the composer Igor Stravinsky. After World War I, he founded Editions de la Sirène; a publishing house where he started publishing his own poetry. When his young friend and muse Raymond Radiguet died in 1923, he developed an addiction to opium that was to leave its mark on his future life and work. His fame was established with his first plays, Orphée and Les enfants terribles. In 1930, he ventured into film for the first time with Le sang d’un poète. In the same period, he wrote La machine infernale, freely adapted from Oedipus, and La voix humaine, a monologue that was later set to music by Francis Poulenc. Following a long period of inactivity and drug rehabilitation during the war years, he resumed work, thanks to actor Jean Marais, with whom he began an intense relationship. Together, they made film history with the film La Belle et la Bête (1945). During the 1950’s, Cocteau became increasingly involved in graphic art and in designing scenery and interiors. In 1955, he became a member of the Académie Française. He died from a heart attack on 11 October 1963, shortly after learning of the death of his good friend Edith Piaf.

Ivo van Hove

Ivo van Hove has held central positions in Dutch-Belgian cultural life, first as the head of Het Zuidelijk Toneel from 1990 to 2000, from 1997 to 2004 leadership of the annual Holland Festival and from 2001 as General Director of Toneelgroep Amsterdam. Along with his frequent guest directing at the New York Theatre Workshop, Van Hove has directed companies from the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, the Schaübuehne in Berlin and the Münchner Kammerspiele. He also staged opera at the Flemish Opera, La Monnaie in Brussels and De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam. In 2014, he staged the world premiere of the opera Brokeback Mountain at Teatro Real. In 2015, Ivo works on several international projects, such as A View from the Bridge in Paris, New York and London, and Lazarus, a new musical with music from David Bowie in New York.

Van Hove has received many accolades, including two Obie Awards in New York (More Stately Mansions and Hedda Gabler), the Flanders Oeuvre Prize (1995), the Theatre Festival Prize (1996) and the Archangel Award at the Edinburgh Festival (1999). He was made a knight of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in France in 2004. In 2007, he received the prize awarded by Dutch theatre critics. In 2008, he also received the Prosceniumprijs, the Dutch oeuvre prize, together with Jan Versweyveld, and in 2012, the Amsterdam Business Oeuvre Award. In 2014, Van Hove received an honorary doctorate for general merit of the University of Antwerp. In 2015, he received two Olivier Awards (A View from the Bridge) and together with Jan Versweyveld the Amsterdam Prize for Art. This year he will receive The Founders Award for Excellence in Directing, as the first non-English director.

Van Hove has directed a.o. Rocco and his Brothers by Luchino Visconti and Teorema based on the work of Pier Paolo Pasolini (both in partnership with the Ruhrtriennale), Antonioni Project by Michelangelo Antonioni, Cries and Whispers and After the Rehearsal / Persona by Ingmar Bergman, Summer Trilogy by Carlo Goldoni, The Russians! by Tom Lanoye, based on Chekhov, Mourning becomes Electra and Long Day’s Journey into Night by O'Neill, The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, Mary Stuart by Friedrich Schiller, Song from Far Away from Simon Stephens and The Hidden Force from Louis Couperus at Toneelgroep Amsterdam. Awarded repertoires of TA include Shakespeare's Roman Tragedies and The Taming of the Shrew, Tony Kushner's Angels in America, Ingmar Bergman's Scenes from a Marriage and John Cassavetes' Husbands and Opening Night.

The repertoire of Van Hove is characterized by its great diversity. He chooses both contemporary and classic texts. In recent years he discovered the power of making adaptations of screenplays. The fact that he has obtained first rights to adapt the film scripts of John Cassavetes and Michelangelo Antonioni is an important recognition of his craftsmanship and talent.

導演的話 Message from Director

很多人都認識我執導的大製作，但是身為導演，搬演獨腳戲才是終極的挑戰。它讓我有機會與演員仔細地、熱切地 琢磨劇本所包含的細節。我導演《人聲》的方法，就像我父親一樣 — 他是一個堅守古老方法的藥劑師，仍堅持 運用量度毫克的秤盤煉製藥丸與藥油 — 全神貫注，留意每一個細節：量度的單位是毫克不是千克，而每一毫克 都很重要。 對我來說，劇本借喻的不只是一對戀人鬧分手這麼簡單的故事。《人聲》是一齣含有存在主義、針對失落與孤獨的 劇目，也讓我們了解一個痛苦的現實：到頭來，我們一點都不了解身邊最親近的人。劇本展示了情人之間的期待 與盼望所隱藏的危險性。除此以外，還有一個難受的真相：有時候，愛情的面紗可以被撕掉。劇中女主角逐漸地明 白，雖然她把自己終生交托給另一半，但在這一刻她面對人生的第一次考驗：她只可以依靠自己。《人聲》的文 本，是關乎可怖的空虛以及無法慰解的慾望。舞台製作的起點就是人聲，探索說話的多種表達方法：從幻想出來的 對話到心底話、從安然寂靜到興致勃勃的語調，因為隔了玻璃窗戶聲音變得模糊，也因為城市的喧嘩而被淹滅。 I am known for my large-scale productions, but for a director, a monologue poses the ultimate challenge. It gives me the opportunity to work on the details with just one actor from the ensemble in an intimate and intense way. Like my father, an old-fashioned pharmacist who still made his own pills and ointments with a milligram scale, that’s how I directed La voix humaine. Not by the kilo, but by the milligram, and every single one of them counts.

For me, there is more to a text than the anecdotal breakup between two lovers. La voix humaine is an existential drama about loss and loneliness and the painful realization that people often don’t really know, or hardly know, their most intimate partners. The text reveals the pitfalls of expectation and projection that arise during relationships and the hard truth that sometimes rips apart the veil of infatuation. The woman slowly starts to realize that she has made the purpose of her life entirely dependent on the other person and is now at her own mercy for the very first time. La voix humaine is a text about the imminent void and a desire for inconsolability. The starting point for my staging of the performance was the human voice. All kinds of speech are being explored: from conversation to imaginary dialogue to interior monologue, from muted to exalted, from smothered behind glass to dissolve in the noise of the city.

一個女人與剛於前幾天分手的舊情人再次通電話。她盡力挽留他，不讓電話掛斷。起初，她態度強硬，不願意接受現實； 後來她變得絕望，甚至具有自毀傾向。兩人的過去逐漸地浮現出來 — 原來舊情人已經移情別戀。 法國詩人、編劇與電影導演肖恩．谷克多於1930年完成這齣獨腳戲，是少數專為女性而寫的獨腳戲。 在哈利娜．萊恩的身上，導演伊沃．凡．賀夫找到詮釋女主角複雜感情的最佳人選。從前已經有不少顯赫的前輩演過這個 劇目，包括西蒙．希諾雷、英格烈．褒曼與莉夫．烏曼。這個挑戰一方面令萊恩驚怕，也令她感到莫大的吸引力。她說： 「我發現文本令人覺得似曾相識，容易掌握。從第一天開始，我已經完全投入故事中的女主角。這部戲中有不少部分像從 我自身的經驗中抽取出來。它除了是一個愛情故事，很明顯，它也為了爭取存在權利而發出絕望的吶喊。」這也是萊恩投 身戲劇以來首次演出獨腳戲。「要花超過一個小時跟一個不存在的人談話，這感覺很奇怪。但是，導演提供了很好的要 素，令電話上的男人在我的心目中變得活生生。從我拿起聽筒的那一刻開始，在我的腦海裏，已經可以清晰地聽得到他的 聲音了。」 在恩．瓦斯維費爾德的舞台設計裡，觀眾猶似在偷看別人。演出空間就是女子空蕩的公寓。因為已經入夜，所以燈亮了， 觀眾只透過一扇窗戶窺視她。觀眾只可看到女子住所的一部分，她有時候會消失在左右兩端，所以她總有一部分是隱秘 的。當她打開吊窗時，你可以聆聽到城市晝夜喧嘩的聲音。舞台美學刻意配合聲像，令視覺與聽覺的千變萬化，時而顯得 吻合，時而形成對比。整個作品有著電影般的層次，令人聯想到希治閣那部關於窺視的懸疑巨作《後窗》，以及愛德華． 霍普的油畫。 A woman calls her ex-lover one last time. He ended the relationship a few days earlier. The woman tries in vain to keep him on the line – first strongly and in denial, but then more despairingly and self-destructively. Gradually, a picture is created of their past relationship and you realize that the lover has finally left her for someone else.

The French poet, playwright and film director Jean Cocteau wrote La voix humaine as a monologue in 1930. The piece is one of the few monologues in the world repertoire written for a woman.

In Halina Reijn, director Ivo van Hove has found the ideal actress for bringing to life the complex emotions of the woman.

Halina Reijn follows in the footsteps of some distinguished predecessors: Simone Signoret, Ingrid Bergman, Liv Ullmann and many others. The challenge terrifies her at the same time as making her curious. She says, “The script turned out to be so familiar and accessible that from the very first day of rehearsals. I was swept up in the story of this woman. Much of it seemed to come straight from my own life. Besides being a love story, it is also predominantly a desperate scream for the right to exist”.

It is the first time Halina Reijn is venturing on a monologue. “It is a strange feeling to talk for over an hour to someone who isn’t there, but with Ivo’s help the man on the other end of the line came to life, and I can hear him clearly in my mind as soon as I pick up the phone at the beginning of the performance”.

Scenographer Jan Versweyveld places the spectator in a voyeuristic perspective. The space he designed is the woman’s empty flat, which lights up in the evening and which we look into through a large window. The audience only sees part of the woman’s living space, and she disappears from sight to left and right. Her life is partially hidden from view. When she opens the sash window, you can hear the sounds of the city, rushing past through day and night. The scenography was developed in close relationship with the soundscape and allows visual and auditive changes of perspective, which sometimes coincide and sometimes contrast with one another. The whole work has a cinematic dimension and evokes associations with Rear Window, Hitchcock’s masterly thriller about voyeurism, and the paintings of Edward Hopper.

She appeared in the premiers of The Hidden Force (directed by Ivo van Hove), Husbands and Wives (directed by Simon Stone), the revivals of The Fountainhead, Cries and Whispers and in the solo La voix humaine (The Human Voice), for which she was awarded the prize for best actress of the international theatre festival KONTAKT (May 2009), in Torun, Poland. At Toneelgroep Amsterdam she previously played in Nora (Theo d'Or 2013), Hedda Gabler, Children of the Sun, Antonioni Project, The Russians!, The Taming of the Shrew, Mourning becomes Electra (nomination Theo d’Or 2003), Danton's Death and Mary Stuart (nomination Theo d’Or 2015). She appears regularly in films and television series, among which Siblings & Such (Zus & Zo), Grimm, Black Book (Zwartboek) (directed by Paul Verhoeven), Blind, and In Treatment (In Therapie). In 2009, she appeared in the film Valkyrie, alongside Tom Cruise and Carice van Houten (directed by Bryan Singer). She is playing the lead role in Isabelle (2011, directed

by Ben Sombogaart). In 2012, she appeared in Goltzius & The Pelican Company (directed by Peter Greenaway).

Reijn has also published two novels: Prinsesje Nooitgenoeg and Halina: Acting Like I am Someone Else (Halina: doen alsof ik iemand anders ben).

In the 1980s, he and Ivo van Hove were two of the founders of the Flemish theatre groups Akt/Vertikaal and Toneelproducties De Tijd. During this time they worked with some of the most remarkable theatre people in the Low Countries. Jan Versweyveld became the regular scenographer of Eindhoven’s Zuidelijk Toneel theatre group in 1990. In 2001, he made the switch to Toneelgroep Amsterdam, where he became the head of scenography and the group’s regular designer. He worked on productions of Angels in America, Cries and Whispers, Rocco and his Brothers, Antonioni Project, La voix humaine, Teorema and Summer Trilogy.

Jan Versweyveld has been a guest lecturer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and is one of the co-founders of the scenography training programme in Antwerp. He has been responsible for designing the scenes and lighting for a wide variety of theatre productions, ranging from the classics (Sophocles, Euripides, Shakespeare and Marlowe), to modern plays (Williams, O’Neill, Camus, Mauriac, Genet and Sontag). His oeuvre includes theatre, dance (ROSAS) and opera: Lulu and the complete Der Ring des Nibelungen by the Flemish Opera, I due Foscari by the Munt Opera, Fidelio at L’Opéra Palais Garnier and The Makropulos Case, La clemenza di Tito and Iolanta by the Netherlands Opera.

In addition to his work with Ivo van Hove and Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, he has also collaborated with many internationally renowned directors, including Johan Simons and Pierre Audi.

He won the Bessie Award in New York for his scenography for Drumming Live, and he received the Obie Award for Hedda Gabler. In 2008, he received the Prosceniumprijs, a Dutch theatre prize, together with Ivo van Hove.

揭 開 石 頭 ， 看 見 悲 劇 ― Ivo van Hove的 導 演 風 格 文：甄拔濤

你總會在歐美各大戲劇節及劇院找到Ivo van Hove的作品，說他是歐洲最炙手可熱的導演並不為過。他悲天憫人的情 懷、簡約但震撼的視覺效果，令觀眾看眼難忘。 看看他做過的作品，便可以對他的藝術取向略知一二。莎劇當然少不了，會導演經典劇作《美國天使》（Angels in America）、哥爾多尼（Goldoni）的《夏天三部曲》等也不足為奇；偶爾亦導演當代劇作家作品，如Jon Fosse的 And We‘ll Never be Parted及史蒂芬斯（Simon Stephens）的《遠處的歌曲》（Song from Far Away）。惹人遐想的 是，他會將幾套莎劇構作成 fusion ─ Kings of War ；也會把《斷背山》改編成歌劇；將電影改編成劇場作 品 — 英瑪．褒曼（Ingmar Bergman）的《哭泣與耳語》（Cries and Whispers)、《婚姻生活》（Scenes from a Marriage )；維斯康堤（ Visconti ）的《洛可兄弟》（ Rocco and his Brothers ）；安東尼奧尼（ Michaelangelo Antonioni）、帕索里尼（Paolo Pasolini）、卡薩維蒂（John Cassavetes）等都是他的改編對象。去年尾他更和大 衛．寶兒（David Bowie）共同創作《拉撒路》（Lazarus）。可見Ivo van Hove是一個多面手，並無困囿於某一種 藝術內容，但其美學風格卻出奇地一致，已然成為一個簽名（signature）。

Ivo van Hove出生於比利時，比國的兩種主要語言為法語及荷蘭語，所以Ivo van Hove可謂深受比利時、荷蘭和法國 的文化影響。他出任阿姆斯特丹劇團（Toneelgroep Amsterdam）的藝術總監自是理所當然。他從不因循複製，相 反地，他會依據文本的結構，選擇極端的場景，或讓演員敢於行使異乎尋常的自由，達致靈魂坦蕩的演出（naked – soul acting）。《美國天使》的劇作家東尼．庫許納（Tony Kushner）稱Ivo van Hove的導演版本為反空間（anti – space）：「表演將整個事件投擲向演員及其表演，並不嘗試製造戲劇幻象。」由此可見，Ivo van Hove自有其一貫 劇場美學，但他仍然把演員推到演出的中心位置，讓表演在眾目睽睽下無所遁形。

Ivo van Hove迷醉於動盪時代中的人類行為及關係。他猶如把每一齣劇作轉化為人類行為實驗室。他喜歡檢視角色 一直到結尾的執迷，聚焦於角色的傷口和瘡疤，而且刻意在傷口上灑鹽，令觀眾真切地感受到最埋身的痛。Ivo van Hove猶如一個既擁有直觀亦精準的數學家，考掘我們的卑鄙本能跟表面的舉止、態度之間的平衡與掙扎。唯其如 此，人性中或隱或現的種種層面才能原原本本、赤裸裸地奉呈舞台上。

說Ivo van Hove，不能不提他的長期拍檔兼佈景設計師Jan Versweyveld。他和Ivo van Hove透過空間，直指我們當代 文化 — 個人主義、液態社會（liquid society，持續感到不安、自我矛盾、沒有安心之處）。雖然社會狀態如此， 但他們並不認為我們可以孤立地生存。我們必須尋找一種有別於從前的集體概念，而劇場正正是最好的實驗場 所。Ivo van Hove認為，劇場既可以歡慶非理性，亦可在這裡提出問題。不論前或後者，都是無有恐懼，也無有限 制。

在2015年，我看了Ivo van Hove的兩個作品：《長橋遠望》（A View from the Bridge）及《安蒂岡妮》（Antigone ， 又譯《禁葬令》）。Ivo van Hove導演的《長橋遠望》，為他摘下倫敦羅蘭士．奧利花最佳導演一獎。這齣劇作於 2014年由倫敦Young Vic劇院委約，演出大受歡迎，之後移師倫敦西區Wynham劇院重演及到紐約百老匯巡演。英 國著名評論家、編劇丹．利巴列圖（Dan Rebellato）教授總結14年的演出時，把《長橋遠望》列為十大之首。他坦 言並不喜歡亞瑟．米勒（Arthur Miller）這個劇本，但Ivo van Hove的導演版本卻能打破我們的固有想像，而忠於原 著、且有著新文本的風格。整齣戲簡約、沒有多餘的東西、華麗的演出班底（Mark Strong擔任男主角）、劇力貫 16

徹至結局、導演的干預簡直龍飛鳳舞。利巴列圖甚至認為，《長橋遠望》是他人生中僅有第二次，在劇院經歷亞里 士多德定義的「淨化作用」，而且「在餘生仍然會惦念這齣劇作」。

《長橋遠望》的確是很典型的Ivo van Hove風格，舞台簡約但華麗，幾乎沒有傢俬及道具，善用燈箱光源。觀眾進 入劇場時，只是看到面前有一個遮蓋整個舞台的正方型大箱子。甫開場，箱子上升，兩位演員在花灑水柱下沖刷手 臂，背景為紅燈，猶如意欲洗去難以磨滅的血跡。結尾的一場廝殺，以關上台後（upstage）的捲閘為始，舞台頓成 密封的空間，眾演員圍成一圈，任由水柱拍打身上，背景的紅燈再現。四兩撥千斤地呈現暴力。Ivo van Hove厲害之 處，在於把一個老掉牙的故事演繹成一個震撼的當代悲劇。有趣的是，Ivo van Hove的演員從不歇斯底里，反而是壓 抑、內斂。所以，走到最後竟是一個無可挽回的結局，反差的力量便更強大。劇終那個箱子再徐徐降下，遮蔽那發 生過的一切。觀眾走出劇場時，的確有一種歷劫重生的體驗。

可是，Ivo van Hove的壓抑風格，來到由茱麗葉．庇洛仙（Juliette Binoche）主演的《安蒂岡妮》（Antigone）卻好 像不對位。Jan Versweyveld的招牌式簡約舞台再現，不過，他今次在台中的半空懸掛了一個大大的圓形木板，猶如 太陽。在戲的結尾，那個圓形木板繞了一圈，露出後面的大洞，觀眾一起經歷了時間流逝，日晷游移。Ivo van Hove 式的演員整齣戲也沒有顯露強烈的情感。因此，到結局皇帝克瑞翁（Creon）說出獨白時，便顯得無神無氣，欠缺 本來應有的力度。與其猜想Ivo van Hove在這次失手，不如說他還需要更多時間摸索如何將他的美學觀念與是次演出 班底磨合。畢竟，藝術的好玩之處，是從來沒有一條永遠也不差的公式。

Ivo van Hove曾提及一件大家也可能有的回憶：當他還是小孩，見到一塊路邊的石頭時，便會拾起它，發現石頭後面 爬滿昆蟲，整個世界就在石頭背後。然後他把它放回原處，你會知道生命依然繼續。Ivo van Hove以此童年軼事形 容《長橋遠望》的箱子。不過，我覺得這個意象幾近他的創作核心。每個作品，他也把石頭揭起，讓我們得見後面 的悲劇。因香港話劇團國際黑盒劇場節的邀請，Ivo van Hove才首次來港。就讓我們一起經歷當代悲劇的淨化作用 吧！

自2014年舉辦而獲得不少讚許、由香港話劇團舉辦的國際黑盒劇場節，今年再次舉辦，而且開幕演出已夠壓場。單 單是 2015 年倫敦羅蘭士‧奧利花獎最佳導演得主、近年歐洲最為炙手可熱的鬼才導演伊沃‧凡‧賀夫（ Ivo van Hove），其作品會在香港上演，已經是一件極之震撼的大事。但更有趣的是，這次他帶來的並非一貫把玩大型劇場 空間的美學的作品，而是導演一個1930年寫成的獨腳戲劇本。當然其中也有針對空間上的調度，但無可否認，《人 聲》（La voix humaine），絕對是聚焦於舞台上唯一的女演員身上，及她手上的聽筒，以打電話的方式來完成一個 小時的情緒波動。這種將表演焦點置於挖掘演繹劇本的可能性上，或許正是國際黑盒劇場節的目標。看過2014年的 劇場節也會明白，計劃透過來自不同地方藝團以不同方式演繹甚為紮實的劇本，所展示的並不旨在所謂「黑盒」的 實驗性或空間性，而更多是在小空間突出表演的語言性及身體呈現方式。作為只有一人一電話的獨腳戲，《人聲》 更是將語言的表演性推向極點，準確一點說，因為導演把聽筒這個如此現實的道具置於舞台，令演員唯有以實在 的，僅僅依靠說話及「打電話」這種沒有太大變化的方式去演繹作品。演員與聽筒及至這一通電話相連，去展示人 的存在，而當「對話」完結，也直接牽引著台上的角色或演者的生存與死亡。 翻查資料便知道，《人聲》大概於1930年由法國詩人兼導演肖恩‧谷克多（Jean Cocteau）編劇，其後曾改編為戲 劇、電影、歌劇等。據悉 20年代末正是發明了家居撥盤電話的時代，即每家每戶開始擁有家居電話，改變了人與 人之間的生活節奏及形態，從打電報、上街打電話的時代，走向另一個新的方向，以致人們逐漸不再需要電報及街 上電話，他們可以先預約才出門，更重要是可以在晚上足不出戶而聊天。或者今天看來很是平凡，而我們沒法具 體想像到當中的轉變，對當時的生活有何等重大的影響，但正如很多千禧後出生的年輕人也沒法想像沒有網絡的世 界一樣，當我們依賴了傳遞訊息的工具後，所要改變的，並不單單是拉近人與人溝通的距離，更多是改變了溝通的 本質。劇本也正是針對溝通本身而行，電話線讓兩個生命連繫上了，我們卻只看到單方面的孤單與瘋狂。當我們不 再需要或很需要分隔兩地去溝通時，即便是從前只聽到聲音，甚至現在的視像，在沒有彼此溫度去滋養當中的空間 時，我們還不過是對著冰冷的空氣講話。即便對話內容是如何激烈或溫柔，我們所能看到的，也只是一場孤獨的掙 扎。 曾在台北看過導演Ivo van Hove的《奧賽羅》，便很明白他善於把玩一些具象徵性的意象，而且經常利用這些象徵 去顛覆及質疑原劇本的意義。其《奧賽羅》以白人為主角卻沒有化妝，便顛覆了劇本原以黑人為主角去突出種族之 間的問題的主張。然而，正正因為所有觀眾也知道《奧賽羅》本來就是由黑人去演主角，但當導演竟然以白人去 飾演的時候，那種反對刻意強調種族問題，或反對這種看似以黑人為主角便以為在宣示黑人的主場，卻不過以白人 （權力者）之眼去施捨予黑人的意圖，更為明顯。《人聲》也有類似的拆解一般人對現實和經典的理解情況。比對 以前的演出版本，是次導演版本更去除了原來電話線（這個年頭要說明，以前的家用電話是有線的），女演員哈利 娜‧萊恩（Halina Reijn）手拿一個舊式電話聽筒，一氣呵成地完成演出，以致打電話這個動作變得更具象徵性， 而不只是一個女性挽回已移情別戀的情人的心的故事。當然，故事中女主角如何利用聲音，用盡有限的方法，既 有婉轉哀求又有粗野臭罵，時而甜言蜜語時而威脅，務求要男人回心轉意，當中情緒起伏，其中轉向，當然引人入 勝，這且要進場觀看去感受。但我要強調的是，導演除去了電話線，把電話的意義從「連繫」中剝離，而更集中去 呈現觀眾僅可看到的這一邊，這位女演員的說話就代表了整個世界（舞台），以至她存在本身。或我們可以再去質 疑她是否真的與男人在說話，還是男人早已掛線，她可能只是自言自語。然而，除去電話線的選擇，正好表現了導 演在設定她與誰談話的同時，更重要是她的說話的存在性，準確來說，在舞台之上，她要拿起聽筒說話，才能表示 她的存在，相反她則死亡。說話、文字、語言，正是建立女主角存在的唯一路徑，當她要掛上電話或說是她沒法說 18

服情人的時候，她的存在便會無價值，以致掛斷電話便等於死亡的想像。故此演出中所謂的緊繃的意象，並不只從 她的說話內容，或那些要迫使男人回到她身邊的緊張而來，而是她打電話本身這件事，已構成了一場生死存亡的戲 劇場景。 不過，我還是必須強調，在思考演出對存在主義質疑的問題之前，演出還是必然要建構出異常像真的狀態，僅靠一 位演員而去構成真實，著實不易。正如紅透影、視、表演藝術的著名演員Halina Reijn也認為演繹《人聲》是何其困 難，她只能憑想像去思考「對方」的說話，而以片面的台詞去讓觀眾感到情人似乎真的存在於電話另一端，更甚是 要觀眾相信她在談電話，真的不是簡單。Halina Reijn說導演的幫忙和舞台的調度正好幫她建立「對方」以及自身 的存在，當她「真的」在對話時，演出自然便流露出劇情，以至上述的存在命題，也因此而展開。
