About Hong Kong Momtrepreneurs

Since its founding in 2018, Hong Kong Momtrepreneurs (HKM) has empowered mothers to continue their ventures through educating women on the life long skills of entrepreneurship, building a community to support mothers, providing mentorship to marginalized mothers and raising public awareness on policies related to female empowerment and family and empower mothers to continue pursuing their dreams. It has become a registered charitable organization (IR File No: 91/17698) since 2022.

Through our mentorship, we support mothers in their entrepreneurial journey by building a community for networking, training and workshops.

The Moms4Moms Fellowship Program is a female empowerment program that brings marginalized mothers from all walks of life hard and soft skills related to motherhood and entrepreneurship.

We raise public awareness on policies related to female empowerment and family by working closely with the government, public sector, private sector and organising events around an annual theme.

通過與政府、公共部⾨以及私營部⾨緊

密合作，並圍繞年度主題舉辦 活

動，我

線上模式，並調整⾃⼰，以應對困境。

2022年也是收穫豐富的 年：我們獲得

了稅務局授予成為慈善組織。⾮常感謝

Denton 在申請過程 路⽀持 HKM。這

是 個重要的⾥程碑，使我們進 步被

認可為慈善機構，並能夠為更多⺟親提

供幫助。

2022 年也是⾰命性的 年：我們邀請

了兩位即將上任的董事會成員張慧雯律

師和⿈⽂浩，他們擁有豐富的專業知

識，並將於2023 年加⼊董事會。得到

專業⼈⼠的加許對於我們的組織是 ⼤

躣進。

在發布 2022 年年度報告時，我們 2023

年的⼯作已經完成 半，我們⾮常⾼興

Message from Co-chairs

2022 was a challenging year - we started the year being very optimistic survived through four waves of COVID. However as the 5th wave of COVID hit, we went back online and switched ourselves back to resilience mode.

2022 was also a rewarding year - we have received the charitable organization status from Inland Revenue Department. Greatest appreciation to Denton who had supported HKM along the way in the application. It was one key milestone that got us further to be recognized as a charity and be able to empower more mothers.

2022 was also a revolutionary year - we have brought in two incoming board members, Vivien Teu and Robin Wong, who had vast professional expertises into the board for 2023. This was encouraging for our organization to be endorsed by professional individuals.

At the time of this 2022 annual report, we are already half way done for 2023 and we are beyond excited to share the great accomplishments Lena and her team has achieved. Let us continue to thrive in 2023/24 and empower more mothers.

Preparing an annual report for the organization is like writing a report card for ourselves. We did well in 2022 and as the first report card for Hong Kong Momtrepreneurs, we have achieved beyond what we had anticipated at the beginning the year. Thanks to the dedication from the team, the commitment from board members, the contribution of volunteers and the generosity of all the donors and sponsors. None of these would have happen if any block is missing. It all started as a passion project and now it’s a fully set up charity, more importantly we are empowering more mothers and bringing them into inclusive entrepreneurship. In 2023 and ahead, we are expanding our reach to more mothers to bring them back to workforce via all the programming we are launching. Your support is still needed and we welcome any to be part of this movement.

Moms4Moms on Metaverse

⼦居家教學以及照顧孩童的困境中，繼 續透過 Zoom 進⾏剩餘的兩個課程的學習。儘 管如此，他們依然保持了旺盛的精神和積極的

態度。危中即有機，COVID 的第五波疫情亦給

我們的學員們帶來了學習新知識的機會。

2022年5⽉7⽇，⾹港創業媽媽（HKM）在

Topia舉辦了年度旗艦活動，Topia是 個可以

讓我們的學員們嘗試新事物的元宇宙平台，擁

有⾃由選擇與平台上的任何來賓互動的機會。

在這個元宇宙世界中，2021/22屆的學員們依

次⾛上舞台，進⾏ 分鐘的演講，分享他們的

夢想。隨後，來賓們可以前往不同的展位與學

員們進⾏密切互動，了解更多關於他們企業的

資訊。我們更有機會在元宇宙舞台上跳舞！

Moms4Moms Fellowship Program 2021/22 continued on with remaining two classes conducted on zoom and our fellows continued learning while struggling with childcare and homeschooling during the 5th wave at the beginning of 2022. Nevertheless, their spirits remained strong and attitudes continued to be positive. With crisis there are opportunities; 5th wave of COVID gave our fellows the opportunities to learn something new.

On May 7th, 2022, HKM hosted the annual flagship on Topia, a metaverse platform enabling our fellows to try something new and have the freedom of choice to interact with any of the guests on the platform. In the metaverse world, 2021/22 fellows walked up to the stage one by one to do their one minute pitch to share their dreams. Thereafter guests could go to different booths of the fellows and had close interactions with them to learn more about their businesses. We also got to dance on stage in the metaverse!

Do Mothers Make Better Leaders

“From Gratitude to Empathy” was the annual theme of Hong Kong Momtrepreneurs (HKM) in 2021/22 - these two positive traits, commonly found in mothers, build resilience for us to overcome all the challenges. We wanted to explore how these positive traits could also make mothers better leaders so we conducted focus groups to examine if women, through motherhood, can gain positive attributes to become better leaders at the workplace and in the society. Hence the 2022 thought leadership “Do Mothers Make Better Leaders” was published. This further strengthened our work to break stereotypes and demonstrate to the general public that there should be transferable skills from motherhood that one can take back to the workplace; therefore there should not be any motherhood penalty or such that set back women’s career trajectory.

鑄造了媽媽們的堅韌性，去克服 和⾯對所有的挑戰。為探討這些積極的特 質是是否可以讓⺟親成為更好的領袖，我 們∕進⾏了焦點⼩組討論，以研究⼥性是 否通過擔當⺟親⻆⾊, 獲得積極的特質， 進⽽在職場和社會上成為更好的領袖。因 此，我們於2022年發表了有關專題報告 「⺟親如何成為更好的領導者」的⽂章， 進 步加強了我們為打破刻板印象所做的 ⼯作，和向⼤眾證明了⺟親是擁有從育兒 ⻆⾊回歸職場的轉變技能，因此不應該有 任何因為做⺟親或育兒⽽影響⼥性職業發 展的處罰或障礙。

Notable Accomplishments

In November 2022, we received great news from the Inland Revenue Department of Hong Kong - HKM has officially become a section 88 charitable organization. This milestone has brought the organization to another level to empower more mothers. We have been blessed with support from volunteers, fellows, mentors, trainers and board members over the years and we are ready to scale up with better governance and structure.

In the six modules of Moms4Moms Fellowship Program in 2021/22 cohort, we explored more on Motherhood and Entrepreneurship with mothers of all walks of life. In addition to that, we have mentoring groups and additional follow up support as well as volunteering placements to allow Fellows to get the complete knowledge and practical experiences to be ready for their next stage of life.

The 5 half-day “You’re Mpowered” training camp empowering mothers via self discovery training and build dignity with children to participate in arts programs. This is a training camp that provides inspiration for mothers, so that they can find their interests and enhance their potentials. At the same time, it also provides art camps for mothers’ children.

Looking Forward

In 2022/23, our theme is Mpowered Love - empowerment is the driving force for mothers to be best of themselves then spread the love to others at home, in their neighborhood and in the community. Moms4Moms Fellowship Program is only a starting point for the stuck at home mothers; the empowered fellows continue on to spread their positivity to their own families and the great community. In 2023, we are looking to expand the scope of services and further strengthen corporate governance.

展望未來

Through this program, I’ve grasped knowledge in most if not all business concepts. I’ve learnt that businesses take time to take off and patience is one of the utmost qualities an entrepreneur needs. I should keep trying without giving up and expectations. We should provide the right products and know our target consumers well before starting any business venture. And one of my takeaway motto is, “consistency is the key”!
