Interview with Hong Kong Ballet principal dancer
Nobuo Fujino by Kevin Ng

Nobuo Fujino, who joined the Hong
Kong Ballet in 1997 and was promoted
to a principal in 2002, is the premiere dancer in the company
at present. He normally dances the first night of each programme with his regular partner Faye Leung. This year he won the Rising Artist Award from the Hong Kong Arts
Developement Council.
I first asked Nobuo when we met in mid-October if he prefers dramatic ballets or pure dance ballets. “I’d rather do something
more emotional, so I prefer acting roles to purely technical roles. It’s good to be someone else on stage. My favourite
roles are Romeo, Prince Calaf in Turandot, and the Beast in
Beauty and the Beast. However pure dance ballets are still a
good challenge for me, to keep up my technique.”
