Beauty Revisited: A personal perspective on the ballet): Sleeping Beauty; by Graeme Collins

Graeme Collins’ early ballet training was in Brisbane and at the National Theatre in Melbourne, Australia. In 1972 he joined the London Festival Ballet and performed throughout the world in many of the great classical ballets. In 1975 he joined the Royal Swedish Ballet and performed in works by John Cranko, Sir Frederick Ashton, Anthony Tudor, Glen Tetley and Jerome Robbins. The following year he joined the State Theatre Ballet (Pact) South Africa as a senior soloist and over the next nine years danced many roles in the company's vast repertoire. Collins returned to Australia in 1985 to dance with the Queensland Ballet before accepting a full-time teaching post at the Queensland University of Technology, Dance Department.
Since 1996, Graeme has been the Head of Ballet at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

history now determines it a great artistic success.
Importantly, that season introduced London to the fulllength story ballet format. As a result, with encouragement from former Diaghaliev company artists, Ninette DeValois
and Marie Rambert, the ballet world was later rewarded with full-length narrative ballet masterworks by three of the 20th Century’s great choreographers, Frederick Ashton,
Kenneth MacMillan and John Cranko.
