An Overview of Performing Arts Medicine (PAM) Its History, Advantages to the Artists and Applicability to Hong Kong Filomar C. Tariao
Fil is a Doctor of Medicine and a licensed physician from the Philippines. He decided to leave his practice
to finally pursue a greater passion-the performing arts. He has toured France, Belgium, Switzerland with the UP Filipiniana, doing solos and duets in both dancing and singing. As a previous scholar of the CCPBallet Philippines Dance School, he began his dance training at the age of 21. He began to dance
professionally three years ago, joining the Lines Jazz Company and Dansa. He graduated in 2001 as a full scholar of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, School of Dance, with a Professional Diploma in modern Dance. He will continue his dancing at the Gus Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago this fall.

The Royal Winnipeg company gave respectable supporting

Reyneris Reyes as Mercutio, and Paul de Strooper as Paris. The
sword-fight scenes were enjoyable. However it is
regrettable that the Leisure and Cultural Services Department did

The battle scenes are feeble in comparison to the far more
exciting battle scenes in the Red Detachment of Women danced by the National Ballet of China here in the past. The best dance is a duet in Act 2 when Mu Lan dreams about
confessing her female identity to the soldier Liu with whom
she in love. The other duets are less memorable. Mu Lan was played by Terasa Webster, who danced decently but without much authority. Her acting was bland, and her characterisation lacked enough variety to sustain our interest in the long three-act ballet. She was also at times upstaged
by the three ancestoral spirits whose frequent presence was rather obtrusive. Liang Jing as the soldier Liu didn't make
much of an impact either. Better was Nobuo Fujino as the enemy commander Tuliz who danced with plenty of energy. Wang Jia-hong as Mu Lan's father gave the most convincing
performance.
The commissioned music by local composer Joshua Chan lacks rhythmic variety. Most of the score is not very danceable, and so does not provide much impetus to the dancing.
The designs are fortunately of more merit than the dancing.
Liu Yuan-sheng's sets are pleasing, and so are the colourful
