Set to Philip Glass’ driving score, Galatea & Pygmalion retells the classic Greek myth of the sculptor Pygmalion and his lifelike statue Galatea, exploring the relationship between a creator and their creation. Stephen Shropshire is a choreographer, curator and independent dance researcher who has created works for renowned ballet companies all over the globe.Between 2009 to 2012, Shropshire was the artistic director of Noord Nederlandse Dans. In 2017, he was awarded a special honour prize from the Dansersfonds ’79 for the ‘consistent aesthetic harmony in his work’, and in 2018, his work We Are Nowhere Else But Here won the VSCD ‘Zwaan’ for most outstanding dance performance of 2017. Shropshire is a graduate of the Juilliard School in New York City, holds an MA in Arts and Heritage from the University of Maastricht, and is a doctoral candidate at PhDArts (Leiden University and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague).

Locally born Rachel Cheung was the first Hong Kong pianist to be a Van Cliburn International Piano Competition finalist in 2017, earning both critical acclaim and the Audience Award for ‘outstandingly lyrical’ playing that showed ‘nobility in her interpretation’. Other accolades include prizes in the 2009 Leeds, 2010 Chopin and 2012 Geneva International Piano Competitions. Cheung frequently performs both locally and internationally. Highlights of her 2018/19 season include recitals in the US, Mexico, Italy, Poland, the UK, Germany and Japan, and creative collaborations with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and Asian Youth Orchestra, among others.

Set and costume designer Yoki Lai won Best Make-up and Image Design and Best Set Design at the 2005 and 2006 Hong Kong Drama Awards, respectively. Internationally, she has worked with Public Broadcasting Service, Princeton University, Great Scott Films and Broadway theatres in the US, The Haymarket in UK, Queensland Conservatorium Theatre in Australia, Wild Rice in Singapore, Theatre Above in Shanghai, Hong Kong Ballet, Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Chung Ying Theatre, Musica Viva, Opera Hong Kong and City Contemporary Dance Company.

Lai holds a Master’s degree from Yale University and a Bachelor’s degree from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.

香港鋼琴好手張緯晴於2 017年6月 成為首位晉身世界知名之「范．克萊 本國際鋼琴大賽」決賽的香港鋼琴 家，被 樂評 盛讚為「擁有絲 般 柔滑 的音色，微妙細緻的色彩，令人驚嘆 的想像力」，並取得大賽的最受觀眾 喜愛獎。她亦曾於2 0 0 9 年利茲國際 鋼琴比賽、2 010 年蕭邦國際鋼琴大 賽及2 012 年日內瓦國際鋼琴大賽中 獲取佳績。張緯晴在港及海外演出頻 繁，2 018–19 年度於美國、墨西哥、 意大利、波蘭、英國、德國、及日本等 國家舉 行獨奏會，又與香港管弦樂 團、瑞士韋爾比亞音樂節室樂團及 亞洲青年管弦樂團等合作。

舞台及服裝設計師賴妙芝曾先後獲 得第十四屆及第十五屆香港舞台劇 獎最佳化妝造型及最佳舞台設計。 她曾與不同表演團體合 作，包括美 國公共電視台、美國普林斯頓大學、 美國百老匯的不同劇團、英國T h e Haymarket、澳洲昆士蘭音樂學院、 新加坡野米劇團、上海上劇場、香港 芭蕾舞團、香港話劇團、香港藝術節、 中英劇團、非凡美樂、香港歌劇院、香 港城巿當代舞蹈團等。 賴妙芝先後獲得香港演藝學院藝術 學士學位及美國耶魯大學戲劇學院 藝術碩士學位。 11

Currently a Lecturer in Dance at The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Nguyen Ngoc Anh is a dancer, choreographer and teacher.

As a choreographer, Nguyen was invited to create works for Vietnamese Opera Ballet, Theatre Regensburg, Inverse Dance Company, Arabesque Dance Company, City Contemporary Dance Company and Hong Kong Ballet. He won third prize in the Vietnamese National Dance Competition, the New British Choreography Bonnie Bird Award, the Spotlight Award at the UK Critics’ Circle Dance Awards and Outstanding Choreography at Hong Kong Dance Awards. In 2019, Nguyen was appointed Artistic Director for the 21st Hong Kong Dance Awards.

A graduate of The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts’ School of Dance, Justyne Li is an independent dancer and choreographer. She previously danced with Hong Kong Ballet and Tanz Graz (Austria) and was a soloist with Ballett Bremerhaven (Germany) before establishing Neo Dance HK with Wong Tan-ki in 2010. Her choreographic work Division received first prize at the 7th Jerusalem International Choreography Competition, and other accolades include numerous Hong Kong Dance Awards, like Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer for Galatea X and Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance for Galatea & Pygmalion.

Wong Tan-ki is a freelance dancer, teacher, choreographer and multimedia designer. His work Division won first prize at the 7th Jerusalem International Choreography Competition, and other notable awards include Outstanding Achievement in Independent Dance for Galatea & Pygmalion at the 13th Hong Kong Dance Awards and Outstanding Choreography for Galatea X at the 16 th Hong Kong Dance Awards. Additionally, Wong received the Award for Young Artist at the 2015 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards and won third place for male solo at the IDO World Tap Dance World Championships 2012.

阮日廣曾於世界各地演出、創作及授 課，現為香港演藝學院舞蹈系講師。 作為編舞，他曾受邀為越南歌劇院、 德國雷根斯堡劇院、匈牙利鏡像舞 團、阿拉貝斯克舞蹈團、城市當代舞 蹈團及香港芭蕾舞團等編創新作。阮 日廣作品備受讚賞，曾獲越南全國舞 蹈比賽第三名、新英國波尼・伯德舞 蹈獎、英國舞評家協會 大 獎「聚光 燈 」獎，以 及香港舞蹈年 獎最 值得 表揚編舞。2 0 1 9 年，阮日廣獲邀擔 任「香港舞蹈年 獎 2 0 1 9 匯演 暨 頒 獎禮」的藝術總監。

Annabelle Lopez Ochoa has created works for over 60 companies worldwide, including New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Compania Nacional de Danza de Espana, Dutch National Ballet, English National Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Joffrey Ballet, West Australian Ballet, Scottish Ballet and The Washington Ballet. A graduate of the Royal Ballet School of Flanders, she danced for 12 years, including as a soloist at Scapino Ballet, before focusing solely on choreography. In 2010, the Temecula Performing Arts Examiner wrote: ‘Ochoa is truly a masterful choreographer with an edge for what dance can and should be in this constantly changing industry.’

Billy Chan graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a major in theatre lighting design. Since 1997, Chan has collaborated with ELDT, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Dionysus Contemporary Theatre, choreographer Duncan Macfarland and Taiyuan Dance Troupe, Macao Cultural Centre and Trinity Theatre, in addition to pop concerts. He won Best Stage Art of the Year (Lighting Design) at the 2017 Shanghai Jing’an Modern Drama Valley One Drama Awards. In April 2019, he was awarded Best Lighting Design at the Hong Kong Drama Awards for Chung Ying Theatre Company’s Rashomon and Outstanding Lighting Design at the Hong Kong Dance Awards for Hong Kong Dance Company’s Waiting Heart.

奧喬亞曾經為世界各地超過6 0 個舞 團創作，其中包括紐約城巿芭蕾舞 團、三藩巿芭蕾舞團、古巴國家芭蕾 舞團、西班牙國家舞蹈團、荷蘭國家 芭蕾舞團、英國國家芭蕾舞團、法蘭 德斯皇家芭蕾舞團、傑弗瑞芭蕾舞 團、西澳芭蕾舞團、蘇格蘭芭蕾舞團 及華盛頓芭蕾舞團。她於法蘭德斯皇 家芭蕾舞團畢業，工作12 年間曾任鹿 特丹斯卡賓諾芭蕾舞團獨舞員，其後 她專注編舞事業，2 010 年獲特曼庫 拉演藝考官評為：「奧喬亞是一位真 正的編舞大師，明白舞蹈可以和應該 在這個持續變化的舞壇如何自處。」

香港芭蕾舞團

One of Asia’s premier ballet companies, Hong Kong Ballet (HKB) is internationally recognised as a world-class institution which represents Hong Kong’s unique character. Since its inception in 1979, HKB has evolved into a vibrant performing arts organisation with a dynamic repertoire, forward-thinking community engagement initiatives and an emphasis on excellence. Septime Webre, former Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet, joined HKB as its Artistic Director in July 2017.

With nearly 50 dancers from all over the globe— Hong Kong, Mainland China and other parts of Asia, Australia and New Zealand, Europe and throughout North America—HKB has won recognition both regionally and internationally. HKB ’s repertoire includes celebrated re-stagings of the classics

by Nina Ananiashvili, Cynthia Harvey, Anna-Marie Holmes, John Meehan and many other notable artists, original full-lengths created for HKB and an award-winning series of ballets for young audiences. In addition, HKB performs works by some of today’s most sought-after choreographers, including Alexei Ratmansky, Christopher Wheeldon, Justin Peck, Jiří Kylian, Nacho Duato, Trey McIntyre, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa as well as dynamic new works by HKB's Choreographer-in-Residence Hu Song Wei Ricky.

With almost 50 tours to 11 countries, HKB most recently toured throughout Europe in 2018, across Mainland China in 2019 and in recent seasons to the US, at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and in New York at the Joyce Theatre and the renowned Fall for Dance Festival. In addition to its performances on stage at home and abroad, HKB maintains a full schedule of community engagement initiatives throughout Hong Kong to ensure the art of ballet is accessible to all.

舞團曾踏足11個國家，進行近5 0次 巡迴演出，當中包括於2 018 年到訪 歐洲、2 019 年巡迴中國內地，近期 又於美國雅各之枕舞蹈節、紐約喬 伊斯劇院及享負盛名的秋季舞蹈藝 術節等亮相。除本地及海外的舞台 演出外，舞團亦全力推行全港性的 社區項目，務求將芭蕾舞藝術帶給 所有普羅大眾。

Septime Webre is an internationally recognised ballet director, choreographer, educator and advocate.

He joined Hong Kong Ballet as its Artistic Director in July 2017 after 17 years as Artistic Director of The Washington Ballet in Washington DC, US from 1999-2016. Previously he served as Artistic Director of the American Repertory Ballet, based in Princeton, New Jersey, US from 1993-1999. In addition, Webre has served as the Artistic Director of Halcyon, a Washington DC-based foundation, launching an annual international Festival for Creativity in Washington DC in June 2018.

衛 承天 是國際 著名芭蕾舞團總 監、編 舞 家、教 育 家 及 倡 導 者。 他於19 9 9 年至 2 016 年17年 間出任華盛頓芭蕾舞團藝術總 監、1 9 9 3 年 至1 9 9 9 年 任 美 國 新 澤 西 普 林 斯 頓 美 國 劇目芭 蕾 舞 團 藝術 總監，並於2 017 年7月加入香 港芭蕾舞團擔任藝術總監。他曾是 美國華盛頓一基金會Halcyon的藝 術總監，2 018 年6月於當地推出一 個每年一度的國際 創意藝術節。

During Webre’s tenure at The Washington Ballet, the institution’s budget grew by 500%, and it enjoyed unprecedented advances in the scope and quality of its work on stage, in the size and reach of its professional school, and in the development of several far-reaching community engagement programmes, which he founded. Webre launched an array of artistic initiatives including The American Experience, which developed great works of literature into full-length ballets, including The Great Gatsby and Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises among others.

衛承天在任華盛頓芭蕾舞團期間， 舞團預算大增50 0%，並在舞台製作 的規模和質素、專業舞蹈學校的學 生和參與者人 數，以 及由他創立又 影響深遠的社區拓展項目等多個範 疇上獲得前所未有的提升。他又推 出了多個嶄新的藝術計劃，例如把 美國偉大文學作品《大亨小傳》、海 明威的《太陽照常升起》等搬演成 長篇芭蕾舞劇的「美國體驗」系列。

As a choreographer, Webre’s works appear in the repertoires of ballet companies throughout North America, including Pacific Northwest Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Colorado Ballet, Ballet West, Atlanta Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Ballet Austin, Ballet Memphis, Milwaukee Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico, and many others, and he has worked frequently in theatre as well as opera. As a dancer, Webre was featured in solo and principal roles from the classical repertoire as well as in contemporary works by choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor and Merce Cunningham.

He has served on the juries of a number of international ballet competitions, including those in Varna, Bulgaria, Istanbul, Cape Town, New York, Seoul, and elsewhere. He has served on the board of Dance/USA and his work has received numerous honors, grants and awards. He holds a degree in History/Pre-Law from the University of Texas at Austin, and is the seventh son in a large, boisterous Cuban-American family.

自由空間

Freespace is Hong Kong’s new centre for contemporary performance in the heart of the Art Park in the West Kowloon Cultural District, presenting multi-genre performances and events. It produces boundary-pushing collaborations and promotes new ways of seeing and experiencing performance.

Freespace houses The Box, one of the largest black box theatres in Hong Kong, a flexible space for cutting-edge performances. Two multi-purpose spaces—The Room and The Studio—are designed for creative exchange and artistic collaborations. Lau Bak Livehouse is an intimate bar cafe presenting live music from Hong Kong and around the world.

西九文化區

The West Kowloon Cultural District is one of the largest and most ambitious cultural projects in the world. Its vision is to create a vibrant new cultural quarter for Hong Kong on forty hectares of reclaimed land located alongside Victoria Harbour.

With a varied mix of theatres, performance spaces, and museums, the West Kowloon Cultural District will produce and host world-class exhibitions, performances and cultural events, providing twentythree hectares of public open space, including a two-kilometre waterfront promenade.
