大部分節目，當中許多節目更開放 予世界各地愛好藝術的觀眾 。

衷心祝賀香港藝術節今年踏入第 49 屆 。這一年一度的藝術盛事在新冠 肺炎疫情的挑戰下，仍然辦得有聲 有色，精采可期。

今年藝術節帶來一連串繽紛多彩的 網 上 及 現 場 節 目， 涵 蓋 音 樂、 歌 劇、戲劇、舞蹈、電影等多個藝術 範疇 。總體來說，藝術節會在「遠 在咫尺」的主題下，呈獻合共約三百 場節目、活動及表演。 藝術節的亮點，包括捷克布爾諾國 家歌劇院及其兩年一度「布爾諾楊 納傑克節」的多場精選數碼版歌劇 及音樂會 。同樣引人注目的，還有 兩部取材自英國劇作家尼爾 ．巴奈 特改編劇作《鼠疫》的發人深省作 品，一部為英語版，另一部為粵語 版。粵語版為香港本地製作，英語 版則由身處六個地區的六名演員作 網上實時演出。來自蘇格蘭鄉村的 魔術師史葛．蕭凡亦會在網上實時 演出，他的互動作品《心靈旅程》每 場只限三十位觀眾參與 。此外，亦 有十六部慶祝香港賽馬會當代舞蹈 平台十周年的製作，包括與中國內 地及英國藝術家合力創作的作品 。 在藝術節開幕演出中，香港中樂團 會進行兩首曲目的世界首演，而廣 獲讚譽的莫斯科莫伊謝耶夫舞團， 則會為這國際藝壇盛會作閉幕演出。 我很高興市民可於登記後免費觀賞

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Hong Kong Arts Festival on the staging of its 49th annual celebration of the arts, and doing so in splendid fashion despite the daunting challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s Festival features a cheering range of online and in-venue programmes showcasing music, opera, theatre, dance, film and more.

In all, the Festival presents some 300 events, activities and performances under the theme “Separate Together”.

Festival highlights include a dazzling digital selection of operas and concerts from the Czech Republic’s National Theatre Brno and its biennial Janá ek Brno Festival. Equally notable are two piercing productions of British playwright Neil Bartlett’s adaptation of The Plague, one in English, the other in Cantonese. The Cantonese version is produced in Hong Kong, while the English version is a live

online performance starring six actors in six time zones. Illusionist Scott Silven also performs online and live, from rural Scotland. His interactive production, The Journey, is limited to 30 participants per show. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Contemporary Dance Series celebrates its 10th anniversary with 16 productions, including collaborations with artists from the Chinese mainland and the United Kingdom. The Festival opens with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra performing two world premieres and concludes its international slate with the acclaimed Igor Moiseyev Ballet from Moscow.

I find it particularly gratifying to note that the vast majority of events are available free of charge, upon registration, with many of them open to arts lovers from all over the world.

The Arts Festival’s promotion of arts education in schools continues. And PLUS programmes bring together audiences and artists through behindthe-scenes videos, artist dialogues and pre- and post-performance talks.

For all that, and much more, I am grateful to the inspired diligence and dedication of the Hong Kong Arts Festival team. My thanks, too, to the sponsors and donors for their generous support of the arts and culture, particularly in these trying times.

The Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF) is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the performing arts in February and March each year.

Since its launch in 1973, the HKAF has presented top international artists and ensembles across multiple genres—from music, opera, Chinese opera and ballet to break dance and experimental theatre. International guests have included major state operas, established theatres, top orchestras and stars of the day. We also frequently partner with renowned international artists and institutions to produce exceptional new works.

We have also collaborated with Hong Kong’s own creative talent to produce work which is now part of the local canon and to showcase emerging local artists. Over the years, the HKAF has commissioned and produced over 200 local productions across genres including theatre, chamber opera, music and contemporary dance—many with successful subsequent performances in Hong Kong and overseas.

As part of our enduring commitment to enriching the cultural life of the city, we organise a diverse range of Festival PLUS activities for the community before and during the Festival to enhance engagement between artists and audiences. These include film screenings, masterclasses, exhibitions,

Beyond the main Festival, the HKAF also promotes inclusivity and understanding through the arts. Its “No Limits” project, co-presented with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, strives to create an inclusive space for people with different abilities to share the joy of the arts together.

To nurture the next generation of artists and audiences, the HKAF also invests heavily in yearround arts education for young people. Over the past 29 years, our “Young Friends” scheme has reached over 782,000 local secondary and tertiary school students; members can enjoy showcases, pre-performance talks, open rehearsals, Festival performances and in-school workshops led by international and local artists. Donations to the Student Ticket Scheme also make approximately 10,000 half-price student tickets available each year.

The HKAF is a non-profit organisation. Its principal income sources are: recurrent funding from the government, box office revenues, and sponsorship and donations made by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations which form a significant portion of total income and also enables the HKAF to receive support from the Government’s matching scheme that matches income generated through private sector sponsorship and donations.

安 妮 塔． 羅 尚 藉 着 最 新 作 品 《無晴情天氣報告》挑戰自己： 製作一部毋須演員周遊列國、 便可巡演全世界的現場演出， 藉 此 減 少 個 人 的「碳 足 印」。 每一場演出都由當地演員擔 綱，從遠古天氣神明，到當代 氣候變化的隱憂，上至天文， 下至地理，無所不談 。

這是一種創新的演出模式，演 員將站在綠幕前，根據舞台指 示演出，過程結合 DIY 電影攝 影、動作片、編舞、藝廊演講 和天氣預報等元素，以現場演 出形式即時呈現 。

《無 晴 情 天 氣 報 告》探 討 人 類 與 氣 候 間 不 斷 變 化 的 關 係。 作品串連起不同素材，例如風 景 畫、 閒 聊 內 容、 氣 象 科 學 學說，以及「情感誤置」的概 念 —— 為 天 氣、 物 件 等 死 物 賦 予人類的情感和情緒，讓觀眾 在無情的風暴裏，思索人類各 種情思的價值和意義 。

For her latest show, Anita Rochon set herself the challenge of making a live touring work where no performer tours in order to reduce her carbon footprint. For each show, a local actor takes on the central role in a provocative piece that draws on a range of topics, from ancient weather gods to the contemporary spectre of climate change.

The performer, standing in front of a green screen receives their stage directions live. The result is an innovative mix of DIY cinematography, action film, choreography, a gallery talk and weather forecasting—all with the immediacy of live performance.

Pathetic Fallacy tackles a changing relationship to weather.

Urgently drawing together landscape painting, small talk, meteorological science and pathetic fallacy—the attribution of human feelings and responses to inanimate things, like the weather—the show questions the value of emotion in the face of a coming storm.

Anita Rochon founded The Chop in Vancouver in 2006 with fellow artistic director Emelia Symington Fedy. She has directed or co-directed more than 15 shows for the company. The HKAF spoke to her about Pathetic Fallacy and the inspirations behind the piece.

1. 有甚麼原因啟發你創作一部 關於氣候的作品 ？ 氣候變化令我感到不安，而這 已經困擾我一段時間 。我無時 無刻都在思考這個問題，為此 感到絕望和無能為力 。我創作 這個作品，是因為氣候對我而 言是目前最迫在眉睫的議題 。 我想從嶄新的角度來審視這個 問題，嘗試更深入了解它，或 看到更多希望 。 這不是我第一個討論環境議題 的舞台作品，我斷斷續續也曾 就這個主題創作，但我從來沒 有這樣全神貫注地創作過類似 的作品 。

2. 你邀請世界各地的演員在綠 幕前表演，然後把影像投影到 屏幕上 。為甚麼你選擇以這種 特別形式演出 ？ 這個作品的核心主旨，是如何 調和人存在帶來的負面影響， 這些影響源於不少北美洲人的 生 活 方 式， 我 自 己 也 包 括 在 內。 這 場 表 演 是 我 個 人 對 天 氣和存在的回應，但我認為， 要 有 意 義 地 解 決 這 個 問 題， 就是邀請其他人在演出期間成 為「我」，代替「我」。這個方 式無論在主題上或對環境而言 都可行（因為演員不用乘搭飛 機 到 演 出 地 點）， 最 引 人 入 勝 的是，我能聽到所有參與演出 的演員對存在的各種回應和想 法，而每個國家、城市、個體 的回應和想法都大相徑庭 。

1. What inspired you to create a theatre show about climate?

Anxiety about climate change is something that has consumed me for quite some time now.

I was thinking about it all the time, feeling despair and powerlessness. I was inspired to create the show, because it felt as though it was the most urgent topic for me. I wanted to look at the issue from a number of new angles to try to gain more hope or understanding.

This is not the first work for the stage that I have created that deals with environmental issues, but I’ve never made one that is all at once so it’s an on-andoff topic.

2. You invite actors from different cities to act in front of a green screen and project them onto a screen. What made you choose this special format?

How to reconcile with the negative impact of my very existence (as the result of the way that many of us, myself included, live in North America) is a core question in the piece.

The show is a personal response to weather and existence but I thought a meaningful way to deal with that question would be to invite someone else to “be me” for the duration of the show, to “stand in” for me. This works in a few ways—thematically, environmentally (since it avoids air travel), and perhaps most compellingly, I get to hear the

various reactions and ideas around existence from all the actors who do the show. And these are so different, country to country, city to city and individual to individual.

3. How does the term “pathetic fallacy” give an insight into the relationship between human and weather, or in a wider sense, nature?

When the term was first coined, “pathetic fallacy” meant “false emotion”. And if I look at it in the original sense, I think attributing a “false (human) emotion” to nonhuman things, like the weather, is fine. If it helps us in being interested, or more deeply understanding something, that can be a good thing. I think it’s very hard for us humans to look at the world that surrounds us and not make meaning through our very human way of understanding the world.

4. This show draws on a rich source of material related to weather. What is so special about these representations?

When I was researching the enormous topic of weather, it led me down many paths, often connected. I tried to follow one to another and present this path of curiosity to the audience. I did not discriminate in the kind of material I investigated, so it moves from 80s music videos to classic art and lots in between.

3.「情感誤置」能否幫助我們 理解人類與天氣，或者廣義上 來説與大自然之間的關係 ？ 這個字詞最初出現的時候，所 指 的 是「錯 誤 的 情 感」。 假 如 從詞語的本義來看，我認為把 「錯誤的（人類）情感」投放於 死物，例如天氣，也沒有甚麼 問題 。如果這樣能夠幫助我們 提升興趣，或者更深入地理解 某些事物，那也是一件好事 。 我認為人很難避免以人類的角 度為世事萬物賦予意義 。

4. 這場表演採用了大量與天氣 相關的素材 。這些選材有甚麼 特別之處 ？

而這些路徑往往是相通的 。我 嘗試順藤摸瓜，向觀眾呈現這 段 探 索 之 旅。 我 對 研 究 的 素 材一視同仁，故當中涵蓋八十 年代的音樂錄像、古典藝術畫 作，以及許多其他素材 。

5. 創作最大的挑戰是甚麼 ？ 最大的挑戰是接近尾聲時，作 品由口述論文形式，轉變為用 語不拘一格、以動作為基礎的 表演 。我想把作品從知識理性 的層面，轉化成情感和身體上 的 事 情。 挑 戰 在 於 要 建 立 一 個戲劇結構，讓演員有充分了 解，才能讓他們完整和安心地 演出這個部分 。

5. What is the biggest challenge or creating this show?

The biggest challenge in the creation of the show comes towards the end when the form of the show shifts from a spoken essay to something more imagistic and movement-based. I wanted to move from something more cerebral to emotional and physical. The challenge came out of creating a structure that gave the actor enough information so they could embody this section fully and safely.

Anita Rochon is a Vancouverbased director, primarily focused on the creation of new work.

Rochon directs in a range of styles, from classical texts to documentary work, relational installations to contemporary dance. She is co-artistic director at The Chop, alongside Emelia Symington Fedy. Rochon was awarded the Ray Michal Prize for an Outstanding Body of Work by a New Director, the Siminovitch Protégé prize (by Kim Collier), and a Vancouver’s Mayor’s Arts Award.

Milton Lim is a Vancouver-based artist and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) degree in theatre performance from Simon Fraser University. His work is engaged with global politics, the cataloguing, archiving, indexing of public data, and resource allocation. These thematic interests are bolstered by a continued application of game mechanics, typography architecture and high-frequency content. His media and performance works have been presented at galleries, venues, and festivals across Canada, and in the UK, Singapore, and Australia. In 2016, he was awarded the Ray Michal Prize for Outstanding Body of Work.

Mark Chavez is a Vancouverbased comedian, writer, and actor best known internationally as one half of comedy duo the Pajama Men, hailed by the Guardian as “...one of the most influential comedy groups of a generation”. Chavez was also the writer of the East Van Panto (2017–18) for Theatre Replacement. He performs regularly with the Sunday Service, winner of Vancouver Comedy Awards “Best Weekly Show” and “Best Improv Group” in 2019.

Emelia Symington Fedy Outside Eye and Dramaturg

Emelia Symington Fedy is an actor, writer and co-artistic director of The Chop. She is also an associate artist with Radix Theatre, with whom she has cocreated multiple Jessie Awardwinning productions. Symington Fedy also performs with The Arts Club, Caravan Farm, Green Thumb Theatre, Theatre Melee, Leaky Heaven Circus and Axis, as well as being a frequent contributor to CBC Radio.

林澤群集演員、編劇、導演、 配音員、主持及戲劇導師身分 於一身，過往曾參與過百個舞 台 演 出 。 他 1998 年 畢 業 於 演 藝學院戲劇學院，獲頒藝術學 士（榮譽）學位，主修表演 。 校內曾獲戲劇系舊生會獎學金 及傑出演員獎 。1998 年至 2001 年為中英劇團全職演員，參與 劇團多個演出 。2003 年獲由香 港藝術發展局資助的香港戲劇 獎學金，赴法國巴黎隨戲劇大 師菲利普 ．高利亞進修戲劇 。 他於 2005 年成立「異人實現劇 場」，2011 年 起 作 獨 立 發 展， 成 立「林 澤 群 實 現 劇 場」。 2014 至 2018 年期間加入香港話 劇團任全職演員 。

近 期 演 出 有 香 港 話 劇 團《假 鳳 虛 鸞》、《奇 幻 聖 誕 夜》（粵 語及英語版）及林澤群實現劇 場《 DIVA 先 生 的 華 麗 戲 劇 教 室》等 。近期導演作品有香港 話 劇 團《嗚 啦 啦 啦 啦 你 的 歌》 音樂劇、廉政互動劇場《金童 玉女》、香港藝術節的林一峰 X 黃馨《花訣》音樂會等 。 林澤群曾多次獲得香港舞台劇 獎最佳男主角、最佳男配角及 最佳化妝造型獎 。

Guest Performer – Pichead Amornsomboon

Pichead Amornsomboon is an actor, playwright, director, voice actor, presenter and drama instructor, who has taken part in more than a hundred stage productions. Pichead graduated from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts’ School of Drama in 1998 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in acting.

During his studies, he was awarded a scholarship and the Outstanding Actor Award by the Academy. From 1998 to 2001, he was a full-time actor at Chung Ying Theatre and was involved in many productions. In 2003, he was awarded a scholarship by the HKADC to further his studies in Paris under the tutelage of the famous acting teacher Philippe Gaulier. In 2005, he founded the theatre troupe 2 On Stage. In 2011, he founded Pichead On Stage. From 2014 to 2018, he worked at Hong Kong Repertory Theatre as a full-time actor.

His recent performances include Hong Kong Repertory Theatre’s La Cage aux folles; Scrooge (Cantonese and English version); Pichead On Stage’s Mr Diva's Masterclass, among others. His recent directing work includes Hong Kong Repertory Theatre’s Sing Your Life, a Musical; ICAC Drama Performance’s Perfect Match; the HKAF’s Requiem for Flowers Chet Lam x Shin Wong.

His performances have been recognised by the Hong Kong Drama Awards, earning him multiple awards for acting, directing and make-up design.

THE CHOP

自 2006 年 成 立 以 來， 溫 哥 華 快刀劇場多次得獎及巡演至世 界各地，作品以實驗性強、別 具 深 意 及 情 感 真 摯 而 聞 名。 過 往 作 品 包 括《命 中 注 定 的 1-100 》、《着 眼 當 下》、《如 何 消失得無影無蹤》。 快刀劇場曾巡演至加拿大各城 市，包括多倫多（工廠劇院和 烏 鴉 劇 院）、 不 列 顛 哥 倫 比 亞 的 維 多 利 亞（ Uno 藝 術 節）、 本 那 比（紹 伯 特 藝 術 中 心）、 白 馬 鎮（支 點 藝 術 節）、 哈 里 法克斯（ 2b 劇場）、斯特拉特 福（斯特拉特福戲劇節）及蒙 特利爾（西格爾中心和藝術表 演劇場 Usine C ）。

劇場亦曾巡演至世界各大城 市， 包 括 波 特 蘭（ TBA 藝 術 節）、 西 雅 圖（板 上 劇 院）、 愛 丁 堡（愛 丁 堡 藝 穗 節）、 都 柏 林（都 柏 林 藝 穗 節）、 倫 敦 （巴特西藝術中心）及布里斯托 （五月藝術節）。

Since 2006, Vancouver-based The Chop, known for its sophisticated experimentation with authenticity in live theatre, has created and toured original award-winning productions internationally. Its shows include KISMET one to one hundred, Through the Gaze of a Navel and How to Disappear Completely.

The Chop’s shows have toured to the Canadian cities of Toronto (Factory Theatre and Crow’s Theatre), Victoria of British Columbia (Uno Festival), Burnaby (Shadbold Centre for the Arts), Whitehorse (Pivot Festival), Halifax (2b Theatre), Stratford (Stratford Festival), and Montreal (Segal Centre and Usine C).

Other international touring includes performances at Portland (TBA Festival), Seattle (On the Boards), Edinburgh (Edinburgh Festival Fringe), Dublin (Dublin Fringe Festival), London (Battersea Arts Centre), and Bristol (Mayfest).
