在過去三十年，藝術節的「青少年 之友」計劃共有超過 80 萬名本地中 學及大專學生參加 。藝術節今年更 首度舉辦「藝術 X 科技創作比賽」， 鼓 勵 同 學 善 用 科 技， 進 行 藝 術 創 作，預計會吸引更多年輕朋友參與。

1973, more than 1,700 local and international artists a year take part in the Festival and its bravura mix of innovative contemporary works and traditional offerings. In doing so, our acclaimed Festival burnishes Hong Kong’s international reputation in the arts, while spotlighting local culture.

This year’s programme features a wealth of world-class productions.

Centre’s live-streamed play To Be a Machine, and Bristol Old Vic’s production of the outstanding comingof-age play Wonder Boy. I am particularly grateful for the Festival’s continuing dedication to the development of our local artists, and the cultivation of arts and culture in the community. Over the past 50 years, the Festival has commissioned and produced more than 250 local productions, embracing Cantonese opera and contemporary dance, theatre, music, chamber opera and much more. Many of the works enjoyed subsequent runs in Hong Kong and around the world. The Festival also presents some 250 PLUS events annually. This year’s PLUS programme includes three discrete videos on ice dancing, in celebration of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

The Festival’s Young Friends Scheme has reached more than 800,000 local secondary and tertiary school students over the past 30 years. I expect even more interest from our youth this year with the debut of the Arts X Tech Creative Competition and its spotlight on technology-inspired art.

My congratulations, once again, on the milestone 50th edition of the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Over the next half century, I have no doubt that the Festival will continue to entertain, enlighten and dazzle Hong Kong and the world, while advancing our new and welcomed status as an Eastmeets-West centre for international cultural exchange as laid out in the National 14th Five-Year Plan.

今 年 是 香 港 藝 術 節 五 十 周 年， 感 謝你與我們一同見證這重要的里程 碑 。雖然疫情持續帶來挑戰，但藝 術節仍繼續致力為觀眾帶來海外與 本地的出色表演 。 國際交通尚未復蘇，而香港藝術節 亦作出相應調整，以線上和線下形 式呈獻一系列世界級精采表演 。今 年以「繫」為主題，帶出香港藝術 節如何透過戲劇、舞蹈、歌劇和音 樂等節目，跟世界保持聯繫，同時 也跟觀眾保持聯繫 。我們深信優秀 的藝術，不論以何種形式呈現，都 能療癒人心 。我們衷心希望能為你 在這極具意義的一年，帶來許多難 忘時光 。

The Hong Kong Arts Festival marks a significant milestone this year and I would like to thank you for joining us in celebrating its 50th edition. Though the pandemic continues to make productions everywhere challenging, the Festival is poised to bring you some of the best in performing arts from across the world.

The prevailing conditions have made travel difficult and the HKAF has once again adapted its programmes in response. The Festival will continue to present an excellent world-class line-up, both online and in-venue. This year’s theme is “Connected”: the HKAF remains connected— to the world and to its audiences— bringing a range of programmes, including theatre, dance, opera and music. We are convinced that great art, in whatever form it might be presented, is a tonic and we sincerely hope to offer you many memorable moments in this landmark year.

香港藝術節 HONG KONG ARTS FESTIVAL 扎根香港的國際藝壇盛事 聯繫中國與世界

An International Arts Festival in Hong Kong Connecting China and the World 香港藝術節於 1973 年正式揭幕，是國際藝壇中重要 的文化盛事，於每年 2、3 月期間呈獻眾多優秀本地 及國際藝術家的演出，以及舉辦多元化的「加料」 和教育活動，致力豐富香港的文化生活 。

香港藝術節是一所非牟利機構，2021/22 財政年度預 算（包括第 50 屆香港藝術節及 2022 年「無限亮」） 約港幣一億二千四百萬，當中香港特區政府的年度 撥 款 佔 總 收 入 約 21%， 另 外 約 16% 需 來 自 票 房 收 入，約 45% 則需依賴來自各大企業、熱心人士和慈 善基金會的贊助和捐款 。預計餘下的約 18% 則來自 其他收入，包括政府針對捐款和贊助收入而提供的 配對資助 。 香港藝術節每年呈獻眾多國際演藝名家精采多元的 演出，例如 *：

HKAF, launched in 1973, is a major international arts festival committed to enriching the cultural life of the city by presenting leading local and international artists in all genres of the performing arts as well as a diverse range of “PLUS” and educational events in February and March each year.

HKAF is a non-profit organisation. The total budget for FY2021/22 (including the 50th Hong Kong Arts Festival and 2022 “No Limits”) is approximately HK$124 million. Current Government annual funding accounts for around 21% of the Festival's total income.

Around 16% of the Festival’s income needs to come from the box office, and around 45% from sponsorship and donations made by corporations, individuals and charitable foundations. The remaining 18% is expected to come from other revenue sources including the Government’s matching scheme, which matches income generated through private sector sponsorship and donations.

SYNOPSIS

達爾丟夫，一個出身貧寒的騙子，贏得了巴黎富商奧爾貢的信任，請他去家中寄住 。他的家 人想方設法要奧爾貢看到此人的真正嘴臉，卻沒有成功 。

Tartuffe, a swindler from a poor background, has won the confidence of Orgon, a wealthy Parisian he is boarding with, and whose family try in vain to open his eyes to the real nature of the interloper.

Orgon suggests marrying his daughter Mariane off to Tartuffe, which shocks both her and the rest of the family. Thinking they are trying to defame Tartuffe, Orgon plans to make him his sole heir.

Orgon’s wife Elmire then confronts him and convinces him to eavesdrop on a conversation between her and Tartuffe. When Tartuffe makes derogatory comments about Orgon, the latter is finally convinced of his hypocrisy. Orgon orders Tartuffe to leave but he refuses, as the house has already been signed over to him. Orgon is now terrified that Tartuffe might use secret documents entrusted to him that could endanger his position at the king’s court.

Orgon’s mother Madame Pernelle, who has previously admired Tartuffe, now turns against him when she learns he is trying to turn the family out of their home. Tartuffe brings an officer of the court to evict Orgon and his family but the officer reveals the king has seen through Tartuffe’s ruse and the swindler is jailed and the family have the home restored to them.

Tartuffe is a play in which you sense that everything has a past, and carries a burden of debt. We can, of course, take the play as an abstract work but we can also put ourselves in the shoes of the characters and see how they have got to where they are. It is a play that begins with a crisis. Is Madame Pernelle’s crisis out of proportion to her situation? It certainly conceals something paradoxical – though she says that nothing is working out, Orgon then arrives, declaring that, actually, things are fine now that Tartuffe is here.

Molière writes only about what he knows, what he has lived.

It’s everywhere. For instance, jealousy, which is a central theme in his work, doesn’t appear at first in Tartuffe. But when you delve deeper you see that it’s been there all along.

It’s a basic fact of Orgon’s relationship with his wife.

Molière played Orgon in a similar way to Alceste [from The Misanthrope]. The characters are not the same, they don’t have the same history but there do have something in common.

He played them for laughs – it was a way of bringing his own emotions into play by pulling them apart and making fun of

them. I think acting for him was therapeutic.

The world has evolved, and so have mores and morals, but the fear of love, the fear of being unloved, the desire to save someone, being under someone’s spell, these are unchanging elements of the modern human condition.

And here, Molière, under the appearance of lightness and sometimes convention, plumbs unprecedented depths. While working on the scene where Valère and Marianne have an argument – which had always struck me as the most conventional scene in the play – I suddenly saw a really surprising depth of amorous feeling.

Religion is instrumental in this set-up. First of all, it is a context, a political context that evokes our world today: the relationships of governments and religion. The problem is one of Molière’s private life, as far as I can see. Religion is where Orgon’s mania finds a release, it’s the lid on the saucepan.

When I talk about religious themes in Brand, Measure for Measure or Peer Gynt, it’s always in terms of a relationship to guilt, to being blemished. The

world we live in – it’s a bit of a truism but true nonetheless – is a hyper-materialist one and this generates a huge spiritual need.

For me, one is the flip side of the other. Spiritual craving is the hidden face of materialism.

Molière was profoundly sceptical and what saved him from cynicism was faith in theatre – I am using a religious term there because there is no other way of putting it.

Belief that theatre can allow you to produce meaning or to to survive in a world without God. And can also produce things that resist certainty.

I feel close to that. The way Molière takes aim at everything that believes suits me down to the ground, I feel like I’m with one of my people. Not really with his jealousy issues but with his issues related to faith, to theatre, to the meaning of theatre, to the issue of private life and the question of love as a central theme – there, I feel at home.

After spending four years at France’s Théâtre National Populaire, Jean-Pierre Bagot (1943-2016) worked with a number of directors, including Claude Yersin (Waiting for Godot), Patrice Chéreau (Hamlet) and Claudia Stavisky (As You Desire Me by Pirandello). In film he worked with directors such as Roman Polanski, Alain Cavalier, Michel Deville and Nicole Garcia. He was a regular collaborator with Stéphane Braunschweig, for whom he previously acted in Brecht’s In the Jungle of Cities and Chekhov’s The Three Sisters.

Jean-Pierre Bagot died in Paris in 2016.

He also appears on the radio at France Culture and has appeared in a number of films, including The Axe (Costa-Gavras), La Fabrique des sentiments (JeanMarc Moutout), Terre battue (Stéphane Demoustier) and Toutes peines confondues (Michel Deville).

After studying at the Théâtre national de Chaillot school in Paris and at the French National Conservatory of Dramatic Art (1988-1990), Claude Duparfait was directed by Jacques Nichet in The Playboy of the Western World by Synge and in Silence complice by Daniel Keene.

In 1998, he wrote and directed Idylle à Oklahoma, a play published by Les Editions des Solitaires Intempestifs, inspired

by Kafka’s Amerika.

From 2001 to 2008, as a member of the Strasbourg National Theatre, he was directed by Stéphane Braunschweig in Prometheus Bound by Aeschylus and Tartuffe

by Molière. He also taught at the Strasbourg National Theatre school and staged Sébastien Harrisson’s Titanica in 2004 with the company. In 2008, he performed Edward II by Marlowe, directed by AnneLaure Liégeois.

He also staged in 2017 Le Froid augmente avec la clarté, inspired by Thomas Bernhard’s autobiography. Claude Duparfait frequently teaches at the National Theatre of Strasbourg school and at the École régionale d’acteurs in Cannes.

Arnolphe is an older man who has groomed the young Agnès to be a future bride since the age of four. He has confined her to a nunnery until she moves into one of his homes, which he holds under an assumed name, Monsieur de la Souche, aged 17. Part of his plan has been to make her ignorant of the world so as not to be unfaithful to him, a dire obsession of his. Chrysalde, a friend of Arnolphe, warns him this might backfire but Arnolphe pays no heed.

Arnolphe then meets Horace, the son of his old friend Oronte. Not realising Arnolphe and Monsieur de la Souche are the same person, Horace tells him he has been visiting Agnès while the man of the house is away.

Agnès continues to see Horace, until one day, a misunderstanding results in Arnolphe thinking Agnès has agreed to marry him, while she believes Arnolphe has given her permission to marry Horace. When Arnolphe learns of this, he forbids her from seeing Horace, who then asks Anolphe for his help to rescue Agnès from Monsieur de la Souche.

In the final act, Oronte arrives with his friend Enrique, returned after many years in the Americas. He announces that Horace is to marry Enrique’s daughter, who turns out to be Agnès, ultimately foiling Arnolphe’s plans.

導演的話 DIRECTOR’S NOTE 「我把她送到一座遠離塵世的小修 道院，照我的方法培養她，悉心栽 培，將她盡可能變蠢 。」（第一幕 第一場） 法國劇作家莫里哀經常在創作中探 討男性的恐女思想 。他筆下劇目 的男角，均對身邊女性懷有極端嫉 妒，既害怕受騙，又暗藏無盡佔有 慾和控制慾，而當中不少由劇作家 親自擔綱的經典角色（如阿爾塞、 阿諾夫、奧爾貢），正是遭受這種 恐懼支配的病態人物，終日在犬儒 心理與杯弓蛇影之間擺盪不止 。 阿諾夫生性懦弱，欠缺男子氣慨， 卻把婚姻奉為圭臬，亟欲迎娶雅莉 絲為妻 。在雅莉絲年僅四歲時， 阿諾夫接她到修院成長，一方面為 她抹去草介身世，另一方面避免與 自已的戲弄對象狹路相逢，招其口 實 。他以為這樣可以保全雅莉絲的 純潔和天真，教她躲開世間一切罪 惡，但事實上，那時已經活到十七 歲的雅莉絲，除了是阿諾夫的迎娶 對象，她只是個一直被幽禁在養父 家的小女孩 。

I had her brought up, according to my own notions, in a little solitary convent; that is to say, directing them as to what means to adopt in order to make her as idiotic as possible. (Act 1, Scene 1) The fear of women is a predominant topic in Molière’s work. Extreme jealousy, unbridled possessiveness, terror of being deceived, the desire to dominate: the male characters, especially those whom the author himself played on stage (Alceste, Orgon, Arnolphe), are sick people haunted by this fear. They fluctuate between the ridicule and the terror they inspire.

Arnolphe is an inveterate champion of marriage and of cuckolds and pusillanimous husbands. Nevertheless, he is preparing to marry Agnes. So as not to risk the hell encountered by those he makes fun of, he has plucked Agnes from her poor peasant background and had her raised in a convent from the age of four. In doing so, he thinks he can shield her from the vices he dreads, and that the child has grown up with her purity and innocence intact. In other words, Arnolphe is seeking to marry a 17-year-old child, one whose knowledge of the world is confined to the house of a man who is actually her adoptive father.

The School for Wives is the an instruction in ignorance: “And to tell you the plain truth, it is enough for her that she can say her prayers, love me, saw and spin.” (Act 1, Scene 1) Molière castigates this madness and questions the religious

obscurantism underpinning it: Arnolphe’s “Maxims of Marriage” are similar to the precepts of fundamentalist Christians, of ultra-Orthodox Jews and of radical Islamists. Yet, Arnolphe’s fear is maybe also Molière himself; beyond satire, this reveals the most sincere and disturbing aspects of the play.

Having just married the young actress Armande Béjard, Molière was not afraid to cast himself in a particularly dark and frightening light. The fantasy of a wife fashioned in whole by her fatherhusband is rendered through an incestuous confinement, which nowadays is reminiscent of countless sordid news stories.

Director’s note

the hidden story of the house.

By exploring this domain of twitching curtains, and making Agnes exist outside the fantasy where Arnolphe (and maybe Molière himself) would like to limit her; this is what we offer.

Claude Duparfait is Arnolphe.

He was Alceste in my production of the Misanthrope (2003) and Orgon in Tartuffe (2008), and he knows well the black meanders of the Molière madness. Suzanne Aubert is Agnes. She was Hedvig in my staging of Ibsen's The Wild Duck, another strange teenager locked in the secrets of a house.

Among Molière’s comedies, The School for Wives triggers the strongest discomfort. Discomfort in reaction to Arnolphe’s despotic madness and in reaction to the young lady’s ignorance, which it is unclear whether it stems from mental illness, from a survival cunning or from a perverse sham. The situation, of physical and dogmatic confinement, is of a rare violence; the cruelty which results from it and which will gradually backfire on Arnolphe has the intensity of nightmares.

Even the final emancipation of Agnes, who runs away with Horace, appears to be fraught with peril.

Molière conceived his entire play as taking place in front of the house that “shelters” Agnes. Nevertheless, he did not forget to leave mysterious ellipses between one act and another, with some scenes that are only narrated. These call for the spectators to delve into 27

The School for Wives was written in 1662, and you are now placing it in a contemporary setting. How does the play resonate with our time? Are there any values explored in the play that you hope will be reexamined in a contemporary context?

When I was starting to work on the project, the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke, followed by numerous outpouring of testimonies in the #MeToo movement. That confluence of events had a deep influence on me. The play is written from a male point of view––the character’s and the playwright’s, Arnolphe and Molière. But I thought we absolutely had to be given an opportunity to perceive the play through the eyes of Agnès, from the point of view of the young woman.

Thanks to Suzanne Aubert, this results in a sparkling intelligent Agnès, who has to contend with male domination so as not to be crushed by it.

In a way, this production is a feminist rereading of School for Women that is in step with all the movements through which women have staked their claim to speak out against male violence.

A Chat with Stéphane Braunschweig About The School for Wives

The play touches on complicated issues, such as the rights of women, patriarchy and religious dogmatism. How have you approached striking a balance between the humorous plot and these serious matters?

In Molière’s plays, even when he broaches the gravest questions, there is always an element of farce. Molière makes his audience smarter through humour and comedy. He makes us laugh as we observe how Arnolphe sinks ever deeper into his insane self-deception, while confronting us with a particularly violent psychological situation. Claude Duparfait, who plays Arnolphe, is your ideal mouthpiece for Molière: he is both funny and disquieting, tender and violent, and he is tasked with maintaining this fine balance between the comical and the serious.

You’ve directed other Molière plays, including The Misanthrope (2003) and Tartuffe (2008); like Schvool for Wives, they were controversial, even in their day. What do you find most challenging about producing Molière’s work today, and how have you overcome these challenges?

Molière spoke to his contemporaries about the society he lived in, and yet, whenever I reread him, I feel as if he’s talking to us today! The one thing that reminds us that he lived in the 17th century is his writing in verse. So the main challenge is to make sure that this poetic aspect doesn’t become an obstacle for modern audiences. We have worked hard with the actors to make his verse sound as tangible as possible, so that it seems to be the characters’ natural way of speaking. In doing so, however, we have faithfully preserved its form, which expresses at the same time Molière’s complex

way of thinking, Arnolphe’s neurosis, and Agnès’s cunning fight for her own freedom within a highly constricted language.

What have you learned from or been inspired by Molière’s plays?

Molière teaches us to consider humanity in all its complexity and frailty; he forces us to be sober and clear-headed, most notably when it comes to men’s fantasies, their fear of women, their anxiety of not living up to their role. Of course, in order to do this, he creates extreme theatrical situations, but he also leads us to question and challenge ourselves in the most ordinary situations of everyday life. Molière is to be remembered every day.

Have you any personal experience of attempting to train (or being trained by) a partner?

If yes, what have you done and do you find any resonance with this play?

As a director or a teacher, I may have been tempted occasionally to behave as a Pygmalion, the way Arnolphe does. But you have to resist that temptation: directing or training an actor or actress always means leading them towards what makes them unique, to make them able to surprise you, and therefore break free from you.

Suzanne Aubert was directed by Ludovic Lagarde in Fairy Queen

by Olivier Cadot and in Richard III by Peter Verhelst in 2007. She got admitted to the National Theatre of Strasbourg school the following year. She then worked with Jean-Pierre Vincent on his productions of Cancrelat by Sam Holcroft (2011) and Iphis et Iante

by Isaac de Benserade (2013). With Clément Poirée, she performed in Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing (2012) and Twelfth Night (2015).

In 2013, she met David Lescot while working on the show Les Jeunes. She has also been directed by him in J’ai trop peur, a youth theatre play which has toured since 2015. She has also worked with Pauline Beaulieu in Berlin on Ein Holden Caulfield Experiment and with Christophe Greilsammer on In Situ by Patrick Bouvet.

In 2014, Suzanne Aubert played the part of Hedvig in Ibsen’s The Wild Duck, directed by Stéphane Braunschweig at the Théâtre National de la Colline. She has worked with Rémy Barché since 2015. Ana Rodriguez is a Spanish-born actress, based in Belgium. She won First Prize at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2004 and has also trained in contemporary dance and singing.

She has performed in 30 plays, under the direction of Jasmina Douieb, Pietro Pizzuti, Christine Debroux, Stephen Shank, Christine Delmotte, Hervé Guerrisi, and recently, Pour en finir avec la question musulmane by Rachid Benzine. She was also directed by Ernesto Caballero in Boomerang at the Centro Dramático Nacional de Madrid. Ana Rodriguez is a member of the dance-theatre collective If Human, for which she performed in Fear and Desire under the direction of Gaia Saitta and Julie Anne Stanzak.

In the cinema, she has acted in several feature films, including The Royal Exchange by Marc Dugain, The Midwife by Martin Provost and Odd Job by Pascal Chaumeil. She played the lead in Gabriel Vanderpas’s short film Iris After the Night.

Stéphane Braunschweig was born in 1964 in Paris. After studying philosophy at the École normale supérieur, he joined the Théâtre national de Chaillot school , directed by Antoine Vitez where he founded his own theatre company in 1988: Le Théâtre-Machine, with whom he created his first shows.

As a director of the National Dramatic Centre of Orléans (1993-1998), of the Strasbourg National Theatre and its

school (2000-2008), and then of the Théâtre National de la Colline in Paris (2010-2015), he directed works by Aeschylus, Sophocles, Shakespeare, Kleist, Büchner, Ibsen, Chekhov, Wedekind, Pirandello, Brecht, Horváth, Beckett and contemporary authors such as Hanoch Levin and Arne Lygre, and, of course, Molière with Le Misanthrope in 2003 and Tartuffe in 2008, which won the Georges Lerminier Prize from France’s Syndicat de la critique.

In opera, he has been invited to direct at La Scala in Milan, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the Opéra-Comique and the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, La Monnaie in Brussels, Venice’s La Fenice, the Royal Opera of Madrid, the Staatsoper Berlin, and to the Edinburgh and Vienna Festivals. He has staged works by Fénelon, Bartók, Beethoven, Dazzi, Janáček, Verdi, Mozart, Strauss, Berg, Wagner, Debussy, Schreker and Fagerlund.

In addition to his sixty theatre and drama productions, for which he was also the scenographer, Stéphane Braunschweig has published a collection of texts and interviews about drama, entitled Petites portes, grands paysages (Actes Sud , 2007), as well as translations of works by Büchner, Kleist, Brecht, Pirandello and Lygre.

In January 2016, Stéphane Braunschweig was appointed director of the Odeon Théâtre de l’Europe.

There, he staged Suddenly, Last Summer by Tennessee Williams in March 2017 and Macbeth by Shakespeare in January 2018.

In June 2018, he reprised at the Comédie-Française, Britannicus by Racine which he had previously staged in May 2016. He also produced Ibsen’s Master Builder at the National Theatre of Oslo as part of the Ibsen Festival in September 2018.

About Molière

Molière’s standing in his native land is such that the French call their language “la langue de Molière”.

The great comedic dramatist holds a place in the national literary canon similar to Shakespeare in England, Chekhov in Russia or Cervantes in Spain.

Born Jean-Baptiste Poquelin into a prosperous family in Paris in 1622, he left his sinecure at the court of Louis XIII at the age of 21 to set up a theatrical troupe. After difficult beginnings – his first company went bankrupt early on – the young man, having now taken the stage name Molière, toured the provinces for more than a decade, before acquiring the patronage of the Duke of Orléans, the king’s younger son.

Molière returned to Paris in triumph in 1658, installing his company in a theatre in the Palais-Royal, opposite the Louvre, and soon became famous in society as a prolific purveyor of farces and comedies, writing 31 plays in 14 years. In 1662, he married the young Armande Béjart, who would become one of France’s greatest actresses.

The same year, he staged The School for Wives, now considered one of his masterpieces. Two years later there followed Tartuffe, whose satire of high society offended powerful interests and was banned. Among the other masterpieces from this era are The Misanthrope (1666) and The Learned Ladies (1672).

Molière would die in consummately theatrical fashion in 1673, shortly after collapsing on stage while performing his last play The Imaginary Invalid. His influence on French drama is felt to this day – green being considered an unlucky colour for French actors because he was wearing it when he died, and France’s annual theatre awards, the Molières, are named after him.

Inaugurated by Queen MarieAntoinette in 1782, and originally designed to house the ComédieFrançaise, the Théâtre de l’Odéon, whose neo-classical architecture recalls a Greek temple, was built as a monument to the glory of the theatre.

In 1784, it staged The Marriage of Figaro by Beaumarchais, a comedy considered to be an early forewarning of the French Revolution.

between 1906 and 1914, Firmin Gémier, Jean-Louis Barrault, who took the helm of the company in 1959, staging plays by the likes of Ionesco, Beckett, Duras, Genet, until the occupation of the theatre in the May 1968 protests. Directors over the past half-century have included Giorgio Strehler, Lluís Pasqual, the first director of the OdeonThéâtre de l’Europe in 1990, Georges Lavaudant, Olivier Py, Luc Bondy and, today, Stéphane Braunschweig.

The Odeon-Théâtre de l’Europe is one of the six national theatres of France and its mission “focuses on creation and research to promote the advancement of national and international theatrical aesthetics”.

Among the illustrious names to have graced the theatre are the legendary actor François-Joseph Talma, Sarah Bernhardt, who made her debut there, André Antoine (the founder of ThéâtreLibre), who staged 364 plays 35
