The Winter Wool Festival
The Winter Wool Festival occurs from June 22nd – 25th in Middleburg, Karoo. It celebrates the natural fiber of wool and all things authentically Karoo. This focus is on merino sheep that produces South Africa’s export of wool and local dancing like the Nama Riel dance. Due to it’s four-day length, the festival includes acitvites and events like a trail run and mountain biking, the Karoo Winter Wool Dance, the Middelberg Museum, and a Sunday community breakfast. The festival provides workshops on wool like botanical dyeing, knitting, needle felting, and more. There is also a Winter Wool Market held at Dwarsvlei Guest Farm.
