RAAC & CDS Junior Dressage Championships Program 2025
Welcome Riders, Coaches, Sponsors, and Volunteers to the 2025 Annual CDS Junior/Young Rider Championships and the Northern Regional Adult Amateur Competition (RAAC)! We are so excited to showcase the hard work and determination of our Junior/Young Riders and our Adult Amateurs at this event.
Held annually in the Northern and Southern Regions of the California Dressage Society, the JR/YR Championships are specifically held in honor of our youngest members and were the brainchild of a CDS Volunteer of the Year Trip Harting and past manager, Mary Schrader. The CDS Junior/Young Rider Championship is the largest and longest run show of its type in the nation.
We are constantly looking to meet the needs of our junior/young rider members, including reviewing the traditional elements of a championship show environment. We offer Team competitions to bring a sports team environment to our individual sport! We offer a jog-skills test and freestyle combined with the Championship tests to create an overall level champion. We hope that our junior/young rider competitors will take advantage of these added show components to “test the waters” before moving up to the Region 7 Jr/Yr Team national competition experience.
Our CDS Junior/Young Rider programs have a long history of supporting the growth of our youth in equestrian sport. Through the Club 100 scholarship program, funds are available for every JR/YR member. Annually, there are CDS scholarships available for CDS members under 21 years, and we host two regional clinics allowing each CDS chapter to send a junior/young rider representative to an instructional clinic.
There are three annual RAAC events: one each for the Northern, Central and Southern Regions of the California Dressage Society. The RAAC is one of the most popular and successful of the CDS programs. The largest percentage of our membership is made up of adult amateurs.
While youth is the future of our sport, amateurs are the backbone. With equal dedication we strive to continue to support their participation and help them reach their individual goals. We host three amateur clinics each year, also by region, again allowing each CDS chapter to send a rider representative to an instructional clinic. These are underwritten by Linda O’Carroll Scholarship fund. Additional scholarships are available for amateur riders.

To help generate some extra enjoyment, there is a RAAC competitor party Friday evening and there will be ice cream available on Friday and Saturday for EVERYONE!

What is the California Dressage Society?
It is an organization whose purpose is to foster an interest among horsemen in Dressage. The program of the Society is educational, designed primarily to offer a framework in which individuals can progress with the schooling of themselves and their horses.
How does one foster an interest among horsemen in dressage? Since dressage is a personal challenge, to initiate a real understanding, a person must start with only a mere inkling of what it might be and must follow with an insatiable desire and definite pursuit to find out what it really is.
CDS is an opportunity - to share, to experience, to learn and to contribute. But the Society is by its very nature, limited, for it is a composite venture into a highly individualized world. The society does open the door. But it is the individual who must take the step.

What is Dressage?
Dressage (training or schooling) is an equitation term that means the gradual harmonious development of the horse's physical and mental condition with the aim to achieve the improvement of his natural gaits and perfect understanding with his rider.
Educational activities on a statewide basis includes Riding Seminars, Instructor Seminars, National Symposiums and Judges' Forums. The local chapters sponsor clinics, competitions, films, discussion and informal schooling sessions.
Dressage Letters, the monthly publication, offers educational literature ranging from book reviews to commentary by notable horsemen along with a complete calendar of all CDS events.
The CDS Omnibus , yearly publication, offers dressage show premiums and entry forms for your convenience in planning and entering shows for the year.

Active membership provides all of the above privileges, as well as voting rights, and eligibility to hold office and to apply for a Qualified Riding Membership.
Family membership is an Active Membership for more than one member in an immediate family, living at the same address.
Life membership is an Active Membership for the life of the member. A membership card is issued with each membership.

The popular six-week long dressage series at HITS Del Mar includes three weeks of CDI competition, drawing some of the sport’s top riders� The HITS Del Mar Dressage Opener kicks off the excitement on February 13th, featuring a CDI-W division, which offers riders valuable points toward qualification for the FEI Dressage World Cup™ Final in Basel, Switzerland, in April 2025� The series also includes several FEI Grand Prix Freestyle test qualifying opportunities for the new US Equestrian Open Dressage Final� HITS Del Mar is one of just a handful of venues to have been selected as part of the qualifying process for the prestigious Final, which aims to showcase Olympic equestrian disciplines to a broader audience�

The action-packed 2025 hunter/jumper horse show schedule at HITS Del Mar includes eight weeks of top hunter, jumper, and equitation competition� Hunter highlights feature the 2025 Adequan/ USEF Junior Hunter National Championship – West on July 24-27, as well as two designated World Champion Hunter Rider (WCHR) weeks during Del Mar Summer Festival I on July 30-August 3 and during Del Mar Summer Classic I on August 20-24�
International show jumping also takes center stage during Del Mar Summer Classic I and during Del Mar Summer Classic II on August 27-31 with a CSI2* division� Plus, junior riders will ride into the spotlight for the Arion Sellier Equitation Championship�
