Located just South of Chicago, Illinois, Crete is a small town with a lot to offer. Founded in 1836, Crete is one of the oldest Chicago suburbs with a pedestrian driven downtown full of shops and cafés. Balmoral Park, formerly known as the Balmoral Park Racetrack has had its home in Crete since it was constructed in 1926 and was originally named Lincoln Fields. The Lincoln Fields track was used for Thoroughbred racing from 1926 to 1942, before it was temporarily shut down due to World War II restrictions. In 1954 thoroughbred racing resumed and in 1955 Lincoln Fields was purchased by the Balmoral Jockey Club, becoming Balmoral Park.
