We’ve moved! L.A.C.E. has a new location, 135 East Liberty Street, Waterbury. We are at the River- Baldwin Recreation Center. Welcome to L.A.C.E., where we are always accepting new students from grades 8-12. Our first focus is always homework, while having some snacks. We provide students with tutors if needed. This year we are looking forward to taking photos at the park and entering them into a contest for a prize. With our newly created Financial Class, thanks to Webster Bank. Our Financial Lab classes will be taught by Jose Cortez. He will be teaching the students about investments, credit, bank accounts, stock market and more. Our schedule includes guitar classes, photography, trips to universities, visiting the Peabody Museum, star gazing at Wesleyan University, Pumpkin picking and painting, Halloween party, baking and decorating treats, fitness classes, Dave and Buster, Holiday Dinners, Christmas Tree decorating and a Christmas Train ride., while working on our LACE Magazine. Most importantly giving back to the community. We are ready to volunteer and collect coats, hats and gloves for the less fortunate. Don’t miss out and sign up today!

We have been busy in the month of October. We are continuing to learn about money, investments etc., we are still attending our Financial Lab classes. We have two new students that have joined us and are having a ball. The students are now a LACE after-school family, and they have done many activities together. The students baked cupcakes and had fun decorating them. We will always paint on canvas; it is a way to whine down after homework. We attended Dave and Busters, where the kids enjoyed having a meal and played a six player Pac-man game, dancing games, basketball and virtual games. We can’t wait to go again! Tallitha Richardson from CT Community Foundation stopped in to talk about their scholarships and when and how to apply. We had a session on healthy relationships given by the program director, Suhail. It is the season for Pumpkin Picking, so we stopped into Rogers Orchard both locations and picked out our pumpkins and grabbed a few apple cider donuts and apple cider for the experience. It is quite interesting to see the students paint their pumpkins while drinking slushies. It reminds us that global warming is real. We attempted to carve pumpkins, but it was not an easy task. Justin from Fitness Fury stopped in and gave us a few pointers on calorie counting and eating healthy. Our trip to the Peabody Museum was fantastic. We saw many dinosaurs, mammoths, bears, while also enjoying the living snake, fish, butterflies and frogs. We enjoyed seeing history on display, the first camera, syringes and microscopes. It was quite educational. Our Halloween party was fun, we decorated cupcakes, dipped Oreo cookies and rice-crispy treats in chocolate, while enjoying a pizza.
