What do you wish for in 2024?

When looking forward with the hopes and aspirations of a new year, I always reflect on my thoughts and feelings this time last year. Where was I? Who was I? Why was I? It’s so easy to get lost in thoughts of where we’re going and not gently grant ourselves permission to simply stop and reflect on how far we’ve come.

The tempo of life is relative to how present we are in the moment. We only notice the pace of the river when we stand on its banks, observing rather than immersing ourselves in the water and becoming the flow.

When we lose sight of our life purpose and fall prey to the misconception that the ultimate power resides outside of ourselves, we can become disheartened, deflated, and disconnected.

ombined, we have passionately pursued our work for more than a century on both the European and North American continents, and from that, we have discovered what it takes to heal and, ultimately, recover. In this world of disconnect and corporate control, the sole objective is to point you in the direction of purchasing. It is difficult for people to develop their own values. Most go with the trends, the current thought, or the latest fad.

When faced with disorder and not armed with conviction, it is easy to perceive the challenge as a life-ending event. Many go through the ritual of finding and listening to the experts to no avail. Many of these professionals are in an odd professional position since diseases are often perceived as incurable.

Now, as the afflicted person is expected to participate at some level in their own recovery, they go from one specialist to another with the same result. You have a chronic and/or incurable disease. This is when the more progressive search out the holistic Docs, the Shamans, the Spiritual Healers, and the Witch Doctors, who all have their own take.

No matter how much time, effort, or money is spent, until you take the reins and develop a core understanding of your purpose with an unwavering commitment to reach the goal of recovery, it is not possible. When rationally observing this bizarre process that we so-called advanced humans created and pursued, it is no wonder it is a recipe for utter failure.

Each and every one of the hundreds of thousands of people that we have been privileged to work with and see bring about their own healing utilized three basic tools: Taking ownership of your current

situation and submit with the willingness to abolish the cause of disease.

Educate yourself with not only

the most available conventional theories but also by looking at historically proven methods that have been employed since the dawn of humankind.

Maybe the most important thing is to rediscover your purpose as a human being and acknowledge and follow through with your contribution to the greater good.

Email us your questions! HOW@hippocratesinst.org Q: How long do I take wheatgrass before I feel the benefits?

- Erin from Gothenburg, Sweden A: Feeling the benefit of wheatgrass and obtaining the benefit is often different. On blood tests within 1-2 days, we see cells improving. This blood-like nutrient-rich elixir is so powerful that many people resist consumption. Start with drops, working your way up to two ounces minimally once a day, but ideally, two times per day.

Q: How important is Meditation for my mental health?

- Michelle from Seattle A: Meditation has become an essential tool for people who are searching for longer, healthier, happier, and more successful lives. Taking minutes a day to shut down the noise, clear the mind, and focus your intent may be the most important tool for health and longevity.

Q: What is the best way to combat anxiety through diet and lifestyle?

- Susan from Arkansas A: Anxiety partly comes from a lack of GABA, an amino acid that calms the part of the brain that creates emotional balance. When your gastrointestinal bacteria is not healthy, the messaging that travels up the vagus nerve, turning on the serotonin receptor sites, does not function, which, in turn, provokes anxiety. Eating a raw plant-based diet helps to clean and renew the gut health. Additionally, taking a clean GABA supplement and the ayurvedic Ashwagandha has proven to help a multitude of people.

Q: What is the healthiest or proper ratio of raw to cooked foods? Where can one find info and studies on this subject? Lastly, what happens when one consumes too much of one or the other?

- Terence A: Greetings, Terence; while many consume a 100% raw plant-based diet, we find that those with minimal health challenges thrive on an 80% raw, 20% cooked whole food plant-based diet. I write about this in my book "Lifeforce" in addition to my multi-tiered approach when assessing the best foods to incorporate.

Q: Can hormones be balanced through diet?

- Taylor from Michigan A: In my book “Lifeforce,” I write about hormones as being a sophisticated language that allows cells and bodily systems to communicate. When you are on a diseasecausing, chemically saturated, nondigestible diet, you are blocking the pathways that allow your brain and body to communicate. Conversely, when you are on a life-filled, energy-rich, green plant diet, you amplify the messages that activate glands to secrete proper amounts of hormones. We have clinically observed that men and women do not endure significant concerns from andropause and menopause when properly nourished. For women, menstruation and PMS are most often reduced. Ultimately, the greatest reward is as we age, the process is dynamically and dramatically slowed since your hormones spark more like a youthful body than an aging, worn-out anatomy. Once you are well, you will only be attracted to people, places, and things that hormonally resonate with your high-frequency hormonal richness.

Q: When we have Rheumatoid Arthritis and our immune system attacks us, how do we explain this, and what should we do? I have heard that arthritis is caused by too much acidity in the body. What do you think?

- Monique from Montreal A: Rheumatoid Arthritis is an inflammatory disorder higher in countries that consume vast amounts of meat and dairy products. In addition, when your cuisine is not supporting your immune system, it becomes confused, and rather than the conventional idea where they state that it attacks you, it is more so that it is unable, due to its weakness, to protect you. Brandal Clinic was directed by Anna Maria in the 1970s when I met her. By putting people on a similar plant-based diet and using herbs like high amounts of raw garlic, science showed they were achieving a 93% reversal rate.

Recovering from past hurt, forgiveness is the key.

Antony Chatham “How come I cannot get past this hurt?” As a psychotherapist, I have witnessed many people struggling to get rid of their past hurt. This struggle can be explained as a sense of justice overwhelming their experience and suffering. “It was not fair,” they often say, referring to their childhood experiences or to the experiences in their significant relationships. If we continue to discuss and analyze the past, it can worsen because it becomes harder to forget as the “injustice” dominates our awareness. “How come I continue to be the victim, even though I am the one who suffered?” This way of thinking results in anger. As long as we hold on to the anger, the problem persists. According to Buddha, "Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned."

Letting go of anger takes us to a space where forgiveness is possible. We can begin to resolve these hurts only through genuine forgiveness. Forgiveness is the beginning of the solution. The outcome, of course, is re-establishing love.

It is not easy to forgive

Lysa TerKuerst, in her book Forgiving What You Can’t Forget: How To Move On, Make Peace With Painful Memories, and Create a Life That’s Beautiful Again, observes that her healing started only after she decided to forgive her husband. When she found out that her husband was cheating on her, she tore down every happy picture of them as a couple and packed up all the mementos of their relationship. However, this did not help her to remove the pain she was feeling; instead,

it made it worse. While waiting for the right moment and holding on to the hurt did not allow her to get rid of her suffering, she also realized that the usual coping mechanisms like alcohol, drugs, or casual sex did not help in the long term. To heal fully, she had to deal with the past hurts in the relationship and in life. She observes that when we are reeling from deep pain and hurt, it feels impossible to forgive. Finally, she was able to do it when she started implementing total forgiveness.

Letting go of the past hurt is essential to recovery from any illness. If the experience is relived, the dis-ease continues.

The Wellness Program at Hippocrates

The Life Transformation Program at Hippocrates Wellness is a holistic program. We believe that healing involves the whole person, the body, mind, emotions, social and spiritual connections. When one is holding on to anger, fear, guilt, shame, anxiety, sadness, and the like, it is very difficult to start healing. Various medical approaches have demonstrated this and connected multiple organs to different emotional challenges.

Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine addresses the emotional background of health challenges. It explains that liver or gallbladder challenges are related to anger, that the heart and the small intestines are connected to joy, that the stomach and the spleen are connected to worry, that the lungs and the large intestines are connected to grief, and that the kidneys and the bladder are connected to fear.

Ayurvedic Medicine

Ayurveda teaches that emotions resonate in specific organs. For instance, grief may reside in the lungs, anger in the liver, love and sorrow in the heart, and guilt in the thyroid. Palpitations and chest congestion, thus, may be related to emotional vulnerability and sorrow. Shortness of breath and difficulty letting go may be related to grief. Digestive issues and irritability are related to the liver and anger issues, and thyroid-related fatigue is related to anxiety.

Western Medicine

However, recent research in Western medicine showed that trapped emotions are stored in various parts of the body. The anger in the head or chest, disgust in the mouth and the stomach, the sadness in the throat, anxiety in the chest and gut, shame in the face and chest, and happiness in a diffuse pattern all over the body.

Ultimately, knowing that our emotions control our wellness can help us heal.

Antony, a Licensed Psychotherapist, and a Pastoral Counselor, has worked with the Hippocrates Health Institute since 1994.

" Germinated seeds healed my mom’s cancer, my daughter’s leaky gut, and my professional life."

DOMINIQUE HOPKINS NIKKI SPROUT UP

In the early 1700s, my great-great-great-grandfather migrated from Spain to Mexico and then to New Mexico. This is, of course, before it was a state or there was no United States, so I guess you can call my family some of the early nonindigenous immigrants. Four hundred years ago, this area of the country was settled and controlled by the Spanish, but it was the birthplace of indigenous Americans. The two cultures blended together, and much of my family was native.

When I was a girl, I did not know this since my name and that of my immediate family were Spanish, and I was brought up Catholic. When we started to dig into it, we found out that half my blood is Native American. It was also sad to find that my ancestors from that side of my family four generations ago were actually placed in a Methodist camp/school and called inmates, where they were molded to become Europeanized. They actually took away indigenous names and gave them Spanish names. As hundreds of years passed, my family remained in New Mexico.

When I was born, my mother and father shortly split, and my grandparents became my parents. My father struggled a lot but was there for me as he and I grew older. Six years ago, I lost him to a heart attack. Before that, he suffered from thyroid cancer. The second blow came a year later when my mother/grandmother, who had just lost her firstborn son, was told she had advanced colon cancer. Of course, the prognosis is not good, and the most the doctors would say was, "We can treat you," but never promise recovery since seldom is there any under medical care.

I love my mother/grandmother so much that I wanted to do everything in my power to help her heal.

I moved from Albuquerque to Orlando, where they were residing, and we both became vegetarians. What a surprise

it was to see her skin, eyes, and entire body transform in a short time. We became more and more serious to the point where the doctors were shocked and reported that she no longer had any signs of cancer. In my life, nobody had ever suggested that eating this way could help in such a powerful way. Shortly after this, my six-year-old daughter, who is tied at the hip with her Granny, who was actually her great-grandma, fell ill. Emotions were eating her up, so the doctors put the label on leaky gut syndrome.

Now, it was time to become completely serious, and we all transformed to be pure vegans. With all of the dairy, processed food, wheat, etc., gone, my daughter and grandma were both well. One day, we woke up in March 2020 and found the world was spinning downward; in a matter of days, everything was shut down, and my mom/grandmother, now in her midseventies, was so traumatized by watching the news that she no longer remained loyal to her recovery diet. Slowly, she slipped to such a point that cancer returned, and after she agreed to take the nuclear treatment that, to begin with, she resisted. Sadly, her demise came.

Now I had a new calling, I wanted to spread the message about microgreens to the public in Central Florida. I started a very pure organic business whereas even the trays I use are made by organic matter. All of the soil and seeds are equally clean. Every week in eight different farmer market locations I provide power foods to the public. When my business began I used to distribute to restaurants but when I would see how they used this superior cuisine, as garnish on junk food, I could no longer continue this. Growing up in Peru, I was fortunate to be in a school with caring teachers. I excelled in Tennis, and one of my professors said that if you want to succeed, you must equally become a good student.

In all the years that this academic institution existed, I was the first to enter Yale University on a partial scholarship for my sport. After graduating, it was an easy transition on Wall Street, where I always started at the bottom, and before you knew it, the man I worked under was now working with me. I had four children, a happy life, and all the successes most people dream of. One of my deals before I retired was for 3 billion dollars. We pulled up stakes and moved to the more inviting climate of South Florida. Living it up and still in my 50s, I recognized that my body was beginning to fall apart.

Fortunately, I had a more enlightened doctor who suggested, rather than knee surgery, that I transition to a vegan diet.

My first reaction was, “You’re crazy.”

After graduating from the transformation program, I was charged up and adherent for ninety days. My travels and social life got the best of me, and I slipped back into my old ways.

Having a difficult time breathing, I went to my doctor, who announced that my arteries were ninety percent blocked and I required stents. Not long ago, I had the surgery performed, and I am on a wide array of blood thinning and cholesterolreducing meds. None of which I feel good about; as a matter of fact, when I become dehydrated and urinate, blood actually comes out. Meds are not a natural thing, only for unnatural people who are unwilling to live in natural ways. This time, I took the program much more seriously and brought one of my sons along.

Family members in Europe told him he could find work there when he arrived in America. Shortly after he arrived, Indiana was booming as an industrial powerhouse, and Gerry was the epicenter.

medical doctor, and finally, they suggested filling the large ping pong ball hole that was now adorning my face. I went to visit a unique physician in Pittsburgh who did exceptional work. He had to remove tissue from other parts of my body to fill the hole.

During this ordeal, I was also having oral health problems, and the wife of my dentist said to go to Hippocrates Wellness. I no longer consider going back to my high school reunions since seventy-five percent of my classmates have perished. Most often from cancer.

We were poor but never knew it. Within a short time, our family members were living in close proximity. My vivid memories as a girl were how the sky would light up orange and red. It was noted that people flying on planes could actually see Gerry from far in the sky due to the pollutants.

One thing I knew as a little girl was that I wanted to get an education, and I always had an infinity for children and knowledge. This led me to pursue a PhD in Education. My life has been rich for that very reason. I have been working on the cutting edge of helping children learn and looking at all the mechanisms to prevent or encourage it. Twenty years ago, I was at my appointment to get a facial, and the therapist saw what she perceived as a pimple and said, "I try to remove it, but it seems difficult. We will try again when you return in two weeks; if not, you should see a physician."

That led me to doctors, and there were so many suggestions about what it may be, but finally, they concluded it was a very aggressive rare form of melanoma.

The Mayo Clinic in the cold north and the University of Miami were two places that were noted for dealing with this form of cancer. Miami has more experience, obviously, since it is in the sunbelt. They actually suggested to me that this was such a difficult case since, after exhuming, it continued to spread, so they sent me to NYU. NYU was perplexed and really did not believe they could help me in any significant way. I was armed with my son, a resident

My sister was among them. The very time I was fighting my disease successfully, she chose the conventional route, and within six months, it spread to her brain, which brought about her demise. I have talked to thousands of people over the years.

Still, it seems difficult for people to take responsibility, and many people have suffered unnecessarily and are no longer here. I am flourishing in my early seventies and am much healthier than most of my peers. Cancer has never returned, but the side effect has been youthful vigor and stamina that mimics a much younger woman. Needless to say, this has affected my family, where my husband, Elliot, and my daughter are eating clean and plant-based.

For twenty years now, I have enjoyed life that was being snatched away from me by a catastrophic disease that took 100% of those people who did not respond by changing the very things that may feed this and other diseases. There are lots of complicated methodologies and ideologies surrounding the treatment of cancer. I've known about Hippocrates for a long time. I've been promising myself I'd go there for a few years, and this year, I reached a crisis at work and in my life. I was at a stage where I wanted to change what I was doing, and I didn't know how to do it. My main health condition at the time when I came was badly controlled type two diabetes. I've been a type two diabetic for 51 years.

As a result of this, I faced the expected problems: stiffness, soreness, poor memory and concentration, tiredness, and no energy. In my first two weeks at Hippocrates, my blood sugar levels came back under control. My pains are nearly gone, my energy increased, and my concentration has improved.

It's not back to how it should be, but it's better. I'd recommend Hippocrates to anybody now. The staff at the front desk in Wigmore Hall were incredibly helpful. It was just magic. At the age of 33, I was pregnant with my third child when I banged myself on my kitchen table, and a huge lump appeared. The doctor's words echoed in my ears that I had Lymphoma, a form of cancer. He said that I had two choices: I could take the treatment, which would damage the fetus, and the cancer could grow exponentially throughout the nine months, or abort the baby. I think with the shock of the diagnosis, I miscarried my baby.

Any mother who has lost a child will recognize the heartache I went through. Yet I had no time to grieve for the child I lost; I had to get on with the treatment and keep going for the sake of my seven-year-old son, Richard, and 4-year-old daughter, Sarah. I sometimes wonder how I coped throughout those painful days. I remember well how I would put the kids to bed and cry at the thought that I may not live to see them grow up and experience the special moments of their lives.

No matter how hard you try, life is sometimes stopped in its tracks, everyday activities are put on hold, and you feel detached and distant from others.

I asked my Oncologist for years if I could have another child.

He said you are lucky you have a boy and a girl. Go home and live your life, as he thought it was the pregnancy hormones that had triggered the lymphatic cancer. Thankfully, I didn't listen to that advice, and seven years later, I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Julie, who is now, as I write this story, 28 years of age. I called her in my first book, "The Choice," my miracle baby; to this day, she is the joy in all our lives.

To be honest, I learned nothing about the disease. I thought I could put it to the back of my mind and forget about it.

Two significant things happened when Julie was five years old. My beautiful daughter, Sarah, who was 16 years old, was diagnosed with an arachnoid cyst in her brain after she went numb on the right side of her body; thankfully, she recovered and has gone on to live a full and happy life. At the same time, my mother, who was 87 years old, was dealing with dementia.

Looking back, I now know that these events had an enormous impact on me, and one month later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a wake-up call that made me realize I had to find a way to reshape the life I so desperately wanted to hold onto.

As the Oncologist delivered the news, my mind vibrated with a million thoughts: would this be the end of my life? Sitting immobile in the impersonal hospital office, I was numb as I listened to the snowstorm of jargon about treatment options.

When you are told you have cancer, the psychological impact is massive; an emotional trapdoor opens beneath you that makes you feel you have lost control. Throughout the dark days that followed, I had bouts of panic. As I watched others

carry on as normal, I felt isolated as they spoke in hushed tones and looked at me with pitying glances, not knowing what to say.

Overwhelmed with fear and anxiety, I was desperately trying to hang on to normality and gain some order and certainty in my life. How on earth was I going to drop the bombshell on my kids? I couldn’t bring myself to tell them.

They were my flesh and blood. I loved them with all my heart; I just wanted to protect them from all this. Staring death in the face gives you an appreciation for life as never before. Time was suddenly so precious.

When your back is against the wall, intuition kicks in hard, and my intuition was shouting at me to take notice and do something. Everyone has a threshold, a tipping point, and this was mine. After disease strikes, you feel like your body is betraying you, but is disease sent to teach us something?

Is it the body’s way of warning us that it is not getting what it needs?

Why, then, do we override the warnings that our bodies give us?

So, I had the operation and six months of conventional chemo and radiation. Unlike the first diagnosis, the second recurrence of cancer made me take a long, hard look at my life. I began investigating the best natural ways to help tackle my problem. I was walking through a health store and picked up a leaflet announcing a lecture by Brian Clement in my hometown of Dublin; something instinctual drew me to that lecture. It was a typical rainy Dublin night as Brian Clement spoke about the Hippocrates Wellness healthy lifestyle. REAL FOOD IS MY HEALER: OVERCOMING CROHN’S DISEASE It was a promising time at the turn of the 21st century, but my health was diminishing. It seemed like everything I ate I could not digest or eliminate. Slowly, my body began rejecting the "foods" that I consumed.

I visited countless doctors who provided little to no helpful advice.

Finally, they labeled my condition as Crohn's Disease (inflamed bowels). By 2021, greater complications sat in.

Now, the many physicians I visited along with my family, many of whom are medical, began suggesting everything from potential cancer to a blockage that may kill me.

Their answer was to pursue radical surgery, posing the risk of either ileostomy or colostomy. Unable to eat, my weight was down to nothing, and I constantly felt noxious. I knew this could not continue. My sister and some friends advised that I attend Hippocrates' "Comprehensive Immune and Cancer program." As frightened and weak as I was, I chose this option because all the other medical programs were extreme and suspect.

When I first arrived, I could hardly walk and was constantly suffering. Even a small amount of water made me noxious.

I could not evacuate independently, and food, to my mind, was not an option since everything I consumed led

to blockage and occasional taps to pump me out at the hospitals. The so-called nutrition was a chemical TPN that I administered down the port they attached to my body.

Needless to say, this was not healthy since the doctors had to check if this concoction hurt my liver.

Persevering, I slowly became accepting since I was surrounded by other guests and the professional medical team that continuously supported and guided me. By the second week, I started taking small amounts of food that progressively became comfortable for me. I left behind the TPN and drank green drinks like all the other guests in the Hippocrates Wellness Program. My energy soared, so I could now move freely and exercise for the first time in years.

On the day of graduation, 28 days after I entered as a sick, broken soul, my plate was full, my spirit was enriched, and my future was bright for the first time in more than two decades. My journey to health, however, started about one and a half years earlier. At that time, I purchased a book entitled 'LifeForce' (in German: WunderLebensMittel) by Brian Clement, PhD, LN. Among all my resources, this was one of the most important readings.

For two decades, I have been struggling with severe rheumatic symptoms (arthritis, inflammation, agonizing pain) at irregular intervals. One doctor after another was unable to find the cause of my disease, and the only diagnosis I was ever given was some issue with a spine disc in my lower back. As a result, I underwent two surgeries in that region in the ‘90s. Unfortunately, these major invasive operations did not alleviate any symptoms. Subsequently, a specialist recommended an artificial disc replacement, a surgery, so I decided against it.

I was prescribed several rheumatic medications (MTX, Remicade, and Prednisone), which, for the first time in my of my disease, life, eliminated my symptoms for an extended period. The cost for this relief, however, was high since the combination of drugs produced severe side effects (weak immune and the only system, intense nausea, etc.) Thus, whenever I visited my rheumatologist, I asked him diagnosis I was about lowering the various dosages. Due to a year and a half of repeated requests, the only medication I continued to take was Prednisone. Even with this, I felt something was still off, ever given was and my inner voice urged me to do something else. So, I decided to go my own way without any help. In other words, I left no stone unturned to improve my health and changed almost everything in my life. With these changes, my whole world changed as well. I became a vegan with a food intake of 70 – 80% raw. I grew my own sprouts and wheatgrass and started to exercise regularly (calisthenics, mostly outdoors). Additionally, I made sure to avoid any kind of negativity and trained myself to focus on the nicer things in life.

Today, I no longer watch TV, stopped reading newspapers, and ended some toxic relationships. Now, I am 43 years old, symptom-free, and no longer taking any medications. But I was still not satisfied. My inner voice piped up again to ratchet up my efforts. So, I decided to go to Hippocrates Wellness to learn anything I could about self-recovery.

I had a wonderful time and received a thorough education about selfrecovery. It will take me some time to understand and digest the whole value of my stay. R ECO V ER I N G F R O M S TAG E I V BREAST CANCER This is my story and development into discovering a wonderful organization named Hippocrates Wellness.

I was born in Argentina, lived in Puerto Rico, and now am a Florida resident. Married to a wonderful man and have three kids. Since childhood, I have had a very stressful life, with horrendous eating and sleeping patterns, continuous sickness, and the constant development of poor eyesight.

At age 36, while living in Puerto Rico, I was diagnosed with Stage 0 BC. Doctors recommended surgery with a partial mastectomy with reconstruction. I felt very alone with no one to consult on this medical issue, so I followed their advice.

Five years later, in Florida, I was exhausted and shocked to find a mysterious lump under my armpit, requiring me to seek medical assistance. After frequent visits to the doctor, the results were dangerous low iron levels and a Stage 3 BC diagnosis. With this diagnosis, surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation seemed inevitable. These solutions did not seem stable, like a small patch covering a gaping hole.

A friend mentioned that I searched Dr. Mercola's website, and others suggested doing Dr. Bernie Siegel's visualizations, starting EFT, and making changes to diet and exercise. These changes caused a faster beginning into remission. Doctors are always clueless about diet/health habits. I specifically remember them saying, "Eat whatever makes you happy, even ice cream." Even then, no changes to my diet occurred.

As my body was weakening, I wondered how I could make my body stronger. I knew that I would not find the answers in the standard medical field.

I received very interesting books from different sources: Dr. Breuss's "About Cancer," "The Gerson Diet," and a funny one called "Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips" by Kris Carr. This last one caught my full attention. There, she mentioned Hippocrates Wellness and talked about wheatgrass, juicing veggies, and other approaches to regain health. I watched documentaries such as "Fork over Knives," "Game Changers," " Fat, Sick and

Nearly Dead". I felt a growing passion; nature could provide all you needed. Hippocrates became my dream and what I strived for.

In 2020, COVID came and changed the world; with lockdowns and no ability to travel, the opportunity to study was at my door. I called Hippocrates and signed up for an online course, as well as the Noble Manhattan coaching course. This time, sprouting, juicing, and changing my diet became my routine after I had fallen off track eating sugars and animal products.

I felt so empowered, and it all resonated with my true self. In August 2020, while exercising, an excruciating pain in my left hip made me stop abruptly. Visits to the doctors confronted me again with the disease. This time, Stage IV Breast Cancer.

There were so many decisions to make, and I was terrified.

Doctors in my area wanted to do surgery but were unsure, so they sent me to a Cancer Center in Tampa.

Surgery was not needed, but to ease the pain, I had to do radiation. I mentioned my new lifestyle, but the doctors weren’t sure. They sent me home with a walker, as I was not allowed to put any weight on the hip to prevent a fracture.

At that radiation therapy center, while waiting my turn, I started to share with the other patients what I was learning after being asked how I could have so much energy. Soon, I had many daily waiting for me to teach them about Hippocrates Wellness and the lifestyle. Even technicians were taking notes. On Thanksgiving 2020, with the support of my husband and my kids, my dream was coming true. I had the great opportunity to visit Hippocrates. The welcoming feeling was immediate. The staff and even guests were so nice. At Anna Maria’s consultation, I listened carefully to all the recommendations from the readings of the different tests they carry out upon your arrival. Shortly after, Brian Clement entered the room and said to me, “You are going to be well.”

I will always remember those words.

interesting. They talk with the truth. I followed all I could do from the weekly schedule. With an electric scooter from HW, I was able to move around campus. Dipping into the mineral pool and doing yoga with Tania was incredible.

She saw my difficulties with the leg, and her gentle hands and voice helped me get into as many yoga positions as possible. The breathing techniques were amazing.

The psychotherapy sessions with Andy Roman, Antony Chatham, and Sara helped me understand many things. I learned about the use and benefits of having saunas, which I do now regularly. I had IVs and oxygen therapies. At the Oasis Center, I had my first colon therapy, Swedish massage, lymphatic drainage, and other Energy Therapies like NuCalm and QRS. I was able to bring these last two devices home.

I had already started growing wheatgrass and sprouting seeds at home with the online course, but having sprouts already available with such a variety of dressings and other delicious preparations made it enjoyable and easy.

It gave me the chance to sit with other guests and share experiences. And the beauty of it is that I made new friends.

Soon enough, I could feel changes in my body: I could sleep better, I was losing unwanted weight, my mind was clearer, and my energy levels had improved. When I returned home, everybody wanted to know about my experience and learn about this new lifestyle because they could see my improvements. Now, eight months into a 100% Hippocrates lifestyle, I am doing better; I can walk normally without a walker or a cane. I can even use my spinning bicycle.

I know I still have a long way to go, but I am resilient. One of the guests at Hippocrates who recovered from terminal liver cancer told me, “God moves mountains, but he gives you the shovel.”

The body is a miracle of God. There is nothing more perfect.

And we are in charge of keeping it in good condition. If God resides in you, you become the temple. He puts us amid nature, which is also perfect, all working synergistically in harmony and balance. Twenty years ago, I panicked when I visited my mom, Odette, at her congregate living facility. She was then in her early 80s and sitting in a wheelchair with legs that looked like elephantiasis; they were oozing from infection. We, of course, immediately visited a doctor who said it looked like we had to amputate. This was enough to put the alarm on.

I called my sister, Mona, in California and said to meet us at Hippocrates Wellness in West Palm Beach. When we arrived, my poor, wonderful matriarch was unable to stand.

The birth-by-fire introduction to the Hippocrates' living cuisine was no less than a shock to her. We would give her the wheatgrass juice and not watch; she would throw it in the shrubs, but we continued to support and encourage her, and before you knew it, she got on board. We went through the three weeks; she was doing so well, beginning to move and walk; we remained at the center for another two weeks. When we left, her wheelchair was gone, and Mom's legs were back to normal size. There was absolutely no sign of infection or wounds, and, most importantly, she had lost nearly 30 pounds and felt like a girl. Now, we were faced with what to do. We had to convince the center that she was living in to only feed her the organic, whole, and healthy food we purchased. All the inmates were eating junk food and falling like flies.

They were all medicated, and we made a conscious decision to prevent Mom from enduring the same problematic process. She lived into her early 90s and was completely healthy, unmedicated, and her skin didn’t have a wrinkle on it. The Hippocrates program gave our mom back to us, and my sister and I often reminisce about that being the best time we ever spent together. We were laughing, having fun, and watching the woman we love heal most. I have come back with my brother-in-law and sister. My sister and I are now once again back.

Every time I am there, the miracles I see with my own eyes and hear with my ears are heartwarming. Tumors go away; people who are told they have days or weeks to live are alive, often decades later. If it was not West Palm Beach, you would think you were in France at Lourdes, but we know this is not Lourdes. EMOTIONAL HEALING AND WEIGHT LOSS As a girl and single child, I had loving parents who knew how to provide and take care of me but could not show deep and affectionate love. Somehow, that affected me. And as I matured and went through two marriages, I became a food addict. It all began to add up to a life that didn’t work. During much of my time living in Florida, I worked as a PE teacher and then returned and got my master’s degree in special Ed. Each morning, I walked on the beach, but at night, the demons came out, and I began to drink and eat excessively. I worked my way up to eating 12 donuts at a time and was so frightened of people seeing me do so that I would drive to the next town and eat another twelve.

I live in paradise on the island of Martinique. Twenty years ago, I flew on a plane to West Palm Beach, where I attended Hippocrates Wellness. This eye-opening experience was something that permanently changed me as a person. Shortly after, an acquaintance, who eventually became my wife, called with the grim news that the doctors had found a tumor in her bones. They did not know what to do, so they were going to experiment, and I strongly suggested that she take a natural approach.

We were married, and she brought the sad news that, at fifteen, she had major surgery and was told she would never be able to have children.

What a surprise it was eleven years ago when she became pregnant; that's what the Hippocrates diet and lifestyle did for us. Fortunately, we went through the whole pandemic without getting caught up in the craziness that everyone else did. I thought what a great life it is to be free of the status quo suffering that is unnecessary going on. My breathing started to become taxed, and I went to the doctor, who rushed me to the hospital as one of my lungs was filled with fluid.

What shocking news it was when they stated that they thought I had stage 4 lung cancer. They continued to drain it, and I was there for several weeks.

I began pondering why this may have happened. As a boy, my father spent much time in Haiti, and at that point, there was an unproven insane idea that the doctors and people were propagating that drinking mercury would be good for our health.

So my father went along with the program since I was an only child, and he wanted to “so-called” protect me. Time and again, I consumed this disease-causing heavy metal. With everything else I had done, it finally caught up with me in my sixties. When I told the doctor that I was going to check out of the hospital, he

said I would die and that when my lungs continued to fill, I would smother. I went home, cracked my Hippocrates books open again, and re-engaged 100%.

Now, every day, my wife and I would start the morning on the beach, where I would breathe deeply and heavily for thirty minutes. When I went back to see the doctor before returning to Hippocrates, he was shocked. He said he had never seen anyone recover like this. The fluid did not return, and now I am on my path to full recovery.

Hippocrates Wellness has been our lighthouse throughout my life.

It saved my wife, it gave us a child, and I remember seeing dozens of pictures of babies when I was there the first time. I asked Brian Clement who they were, and he said children of people who could either not have children or were so sick when they were here but, after recovery, gave birth. That's what happened in my family.

More than a decade ago, I felt parts of my body were not responding and felt numb. When I went to my physician, whom I had seen and trusted for many years, he gave me the grim news that I had M.S. This is a disorder that most of the experts take a wait-and-see approach of how rapidly it progresses and use a small variety of drugs in the hope it may help slow the process. Medicine calls this incurable and really does not have anything promising to offer.

I went to my physician for my annual checkup since my drugs did not appear to be helping. He did the standard physical, touching parts of my body that I could not feel, and this was frightening. He said, "You know you have to change your diet. You reduced weight by giving up processed food, but now it is time to get serious. Parts of my body that were desensitized several weeks earlier had regained their feeling. He took me off all medicines that I have been free of since 2015.

My energy, vitality, and mental clarity progressively improved as time passed. In 2017, when the doctors showed me the brain scan that was conducted at the University of Miami with no signs of

Multiple Sclerosis, I nearly exploded; I had actually healed myself from a so-called incurable disease by eating raw organic plants and shifting my negative thoughts to positive.

I forgot to tell you that shortly after graduating from the Hippocrates' Life Transformation Program, I was at an event where I could not keep my eyes off a man on the other side of the room who was mutually engaged.

Our attraction and passion from the moment we met continually grew, and I was married smack in the middle of the pandemic. I have remained committed to plant-based living. And even when we traveled to Antarctica and Waffelrich, Belgium, it was vegan all the way for me.

The story begins in my Tribeca loft on September 11th, 2001. I was at the end stages of planning my wedding that weekend at restaurant Daniel for 250 people for a very formal seated wedding that weekend. My soon-to-be husband, Jean Luc Le Du, was the Chef Sommelier of Restaurant Daniel, and he had just won Best Sommelier of the US by the James Beard Foundation. We had Daniel Boulud and Andrew Carmellini cooking our 5 Course meal, and Francois Payard, the pastry chef, had made our fourtiered wedding cake, each tier written in a different language to incorporate my Italian family and his French family, our Swedish husband and wife team of maid of honor and best man.

That September morning, in my newly purchased Tribeca loft, located on the first triangle below Canal Street (Tribeca literally means the Triangle Below Canal Street), I worked as Director of Special Events and Publicist for Three Tribeca restaurants. So, I lived and worked in Tribeca and rarely ever went above Houston Street, ever! I was a true downtown NYC girl.

Having finished our enormous seating chart the night before, I woke up that morning and opened all the windows. It was a spectacular clear blue-sky day. Soon After, Jean Luc left to go uptown to restaurant Daniel. I remember standing in my living area when our entire building shook as if an earthquake had just occurred. I looked outside our floor-to-ceiling windows and noticed a complete outline of a plane that had just hit the first tower. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I ran out of our loft to one of the three restaurants called Chanterelle, on the corner of Hudson and Harrison Streets, about six blocks from TWC. I checked in with all of my staff, and like the hundreds of other people emerging from buildings, it was at that moment that the second plane hit Tower 2. We were a pack of about 15 just standing on the corner, having absolutely no idea what was about to happen. Still, we certainly watched as people jumped from the buildings, police vehicles, fire engines, and trucks were traveling uptown on downtown streets, and people were passing us; some burned, some covered in blood, dirt, and dust.

It was then that the first tower, as we all stood there watching in disbelief, started collapsing in front of our own eyes! And now, this enormous giant cloud of dust was headed straight for us. My boss fell to the ground, and before we knew it, we were completely covered by this toxic plume of smoke. We all took off in different directions; I ran back to my loft and tried to gather a few things before the FD was evacuating our building. As we

stepped back outside, the second tower fell. This time, I thought I was going to die. I couldn’t see anything, no light, no people, just screams from people around me.

Literally, the dust settled, and we were moved to the Hudson River, back East again, but we were told that another plane was coming; the Holland Tunnel had a bomb in it. We, and I say everyone that was 4-6 blocks away from the WTC site, were basically locked in this downtown area with no guidance because NO ONE knew what was going on. I thought I was going to die.

By the time I got to Gramercy Park to my best friend’s house, I didn’t realize it was almost 3 PM, and I couldn’t believe what I saw in the mirror. I was one of those people completely covered in dust and so completely confused about what I just witnessed.

I knew immediately I had lost some of my friends who were in my bridal party, either working for different financial companies such as Cantor or Euro Brokers. A total of 4 people had perished that were supposed to be in my wedding party; some had just been married themselves and started having families.

By the time I was able to move back into our loft, I realized I had forgotten to close my windows. Our entire loft was covered in dust, and we had papers, business cards, random shoes, and other pieces of the buildings on our rooftop. It was about a month from the day when we could move back in. So, for the next five years, I felt such a strong sense of being part of my downtown Tribeca community. I literally knew everyone in my neighborhood and those who owned and worked in the surrounding areas. I was committed to helping and rebuilding Tribeca in any way that I could. I volunteered my time and helped create some events that continue to this day for the families that lost loved ones that day or the days and years after.

We remained and lived in that loft for another decade until almost the exact day, Sept 15th, 2011, when I started having pain in my right hip. Thinking I had pulled a muscle between my working out, I didn’t think much of it until the pain started waking me up at 3 AM almost every night. I realized I needed to see my doctor. Entirely by instinct or because I had the same doctor for most of my adult NYC life, he took an X-ray of my hip, and by whatever insight or complete luck, the technician had taken an X-ray of my hip and femur. I had a giant tumor/mass right in the middle of my right femur. I took the subway home, and my doctor had already left 7 VMs to call him. I had a tumor, I had a mass, I had a tumor the size of a lemon right

The best thing about this diagnosis is you get a “team” of specialists, and I was also so incredibly lucky to have a group of raw vegan or vegan friends that introduced me to Hippocrates Wellness as an option, pre or post-surgery. I went through two surgeries, and Sloan rebuilt my entire right hip and femur with titanium rods and pins. I did nine rounds of radiation. I had to learn to walk again, as all my muscles and entire leg had been broken into eight pieces in order to get to the tumor and all the margins around the tumor. So, I had to learn to walk again with a walker at first, then crutches, then a cane. But I did it.

I trained with athletes. I listened to my friends who said, "Listen to your body, do the stuff, and after, go to Hippocrates Wellness.

I signed up for the Health Education course; why stop? I felt invincible, strong, clean, and healthy in a way I didn't even know was possible. By this time, I had engaged my mother, cousins, aunt and uncle, and four friends to come to Hippocrates and go through the 21-day Life Transformation Program (LTP), and wow!!! We all had these explosive "A-HA" moments where none of us could have ever expected to look and feel as good as we did. It was truly the best, life-altering, lifesaving decision I had ever made. I have been going back to Hippocrates for over ten years and became a HED educator in 2016. I can't tell you how many people I have sent there over the years because of my story and photos. I don't look like I did before I was diagnosed; I look and feel better.

The way we eat and live now is all because of the Hippocrates motto, “Helping people help themselves,” and I bought in. I go back with my family at least once a year for a week or three weeks, and I've grown my “team” of raw vegans because you can’t deny the transformation when you look at me and know what I came through – you have to go through it to get to the other side. I did, and it was Hippocrates that gave me the resources, tools, education, and knowledge to continue to help myself and others around me. I had a new HW family, and still, to this day, my family does family reboots at HW, and we will continue to do them.

Hippocrates gave me the tools, and now I know how to help myself, and that is all because of what I learned and how I needed to learn what I was eating, the clothes that I was wearing, the lifestyle of a super high-end luxury event planner running in fourinch heels, I might need to reevaluate my choices. It is a practice, and I’m still in it, but I will say that it is now 2023, and I have had clean scans from the first one after Hippocrates 6 months later, made it through the five years, and now over ten years.

I have lost so many friends and colleagues who didn’t go with me on my journey and HW, and I truly believe they might still be here if they had the opportunity to experience what HW does and the education you receive - having gone through the program. I know HW saved my life, or as people at HW will say, "We give you the tools, and now you have to do the daily work of keeping up with a raw, vegan lifestyle, and I do." Why would I do it any other way?

I’m writing this to talk about my experience and just how incredibly fortunate I am and was to meet the one person at my friend’s vegan restaurant in NYC who had done the program in 2007, and she told me about HW and her experience. First was a biopsy, so they had to break my leg through my hip and down into the femur to see what type of cancer I had. It was diagnosed as a cancer that Sloan Kettering had never seen. I was making the history books...great!

RECOVERING FROM MEL ANOMA SKIN C ANCER & LUNG C ANCER My cancer journey started in 2014. I was driving the car one day when my wife pointed out I had a dark freckle on the side of my neck that she hadn't seen before. I was due to go to the doctor the following week to get a "fit for work" letter as I was heading off to South Africa to do some charity work, so I said I would show the doctor when I was there. The doctor wasn't too concerned but said she would make an appointment with a dermatologist the following week.

The dermatologist took a small biopsy and told me she would be in touch. I went to South Africa for a week and then returned to normal life. I had actually forgotten about it when I got a call from the dermatologist about four months later asking me to come see her with my next of kin. I knew that the news must not be good. It was February 2015 when my wife and I went to see her and got the devastating news that I had melanoma skin cancer. We couldn't believe that something so small could be so dangerous. Things started to move quickly then; I had surgery to remove it and some of my lymph nodes. They discovered one of my lymph nodes had the disease, so they did more surgery, taking on a broader area. I was also advised to go on the drug Interferon for the next year as it would help my chances of the cancer not returning. Unfortunately, just before the year ended, after a routine scan, they discovered that it had metastasized to my lungs.

The scan showed that I had three tumors in my lungs. My Oncologist told me there were two options for me now: go on another drug where my chances of survival were slim at 10 to 15%, or I could just let it take its course, and I would possibly have 10 to 12 months left to live. We were absolutely devastated and stunned by this news. We were taken into a private room and given a few leaflets about counseling and information about how we should tell our children. When home, I refused to believe that I was going to die as I had so much to live for. After some research, I found another Oncologist who told me about a clinical trial I could partake in; I jumped at the chance. The trial was to last for two years, and the first three months were great. My tumors reacted well to it, reducing by 50%. You can imagine how happy I was, but unfortunately, my happiness didn’t last long; soon, I was in the hospital, fighting for my life after a reaction to the drugs. I spent three weeks in the hospital and was immediately taken off the clinical trial. I now felt like I really had no options.

BEFORE

After talking to many family members and friends, I found out about a man who had traveled out to a retreat called Hippocrates Wellness. He had changed his whole lifestyle, and after making these changes while there, and also which he continued at home, it had cured him of cancer.

After speaking to this man, my wife, Annette, and I decided to make the same journey. We arrived at Hippocrates, and over the next three weeks, we immersed ourselves in all there was to learn and ate a raw plant-based diet mainly consisting of nutritious sprouted food. My first week in Hippocrates was difficult for me to adjust to the diet. But eventually, we got into a routine of waking, having our wheatgrass shot, then an infrared sauna, enema, and a fitness class, sometimes on the rebounder or something more gentle like a yoga class. Later on, during the days, we would go to talks given by Brian or Anna Maria Clement or just visit the many facilities on campus. It was very easy to make friends in Hippocrates, as everyone had a story to tell.

I was never private about my disease and spoke to anyone who would listen, always hoping they might tell me an inspiring story on how someone cured themselves naturally. Most of these stories were shared at eating times or in

the evening when people gathered to relax in the outdoor spa, which very quickly became my favorite place. There was a swimming pool, an infrared sauna, a freezing plunge pool, and a very relaxing hot mineral pool.

One evening in the mineral pool, I started talking to two ladies, Gail from Florida and Maria from Guatemala, who were visiting the wellness retreat to detox and maybe lose weight.

We would have long chats together about the power of the mind and the energy field that surrounds us all. One night, Gail told me a story about a guy called Joe Dispenza who healed himself from a near-death experience. I was amazed by the story and started watching many of his videos.

As part of our three-week stay, we partook in a cancer wellness week. The lady running this week's course, Janet Hranicky, told us that research had shown that when people get cancer, many of them have had a traumatic experience anywhere from 6 to 18 months before the cancer shows. This truly related to me as in 2010, my dad had gone to the hospital to have a routine stint put in; he was 75, and he died during the procedure. He never complained about his heart, but he put all his trust in the doctor. I was devastated about losing my father and was extremely annoyed and angry. In my mind, my dad was murdered, and all I wanted was revenge.

Then, my best friend of 40 years died in 2011, followed by the death of my brother, who died in my house in 2012 from a heart attack. Two years later, my mother passed away from cancer and a broken heart after my brother. Janet told me that in her mind, these four deaths had a massive effect on my wellbeing, and it was more than likely the real cause of my cancer. I also shared this story with my friend, Gail, and she told me I must lose all the negative emotions of anger, revenge, and hatred, to name a few, in order to heal. She said a toxic mind creates a toxic body. Today, I truly believe this. As time went by, I started to enjoy myself and began to believe in the process, and I grew in confidence that this would work for me. I began to enjoy my daily meals, especially on Fridays when we were treated to two desserts of banana ice cream or nut ice cream.

On my second to last day, I had a 30-minute meeting with the director, Brian Clement. He told me my disease was very curable and that thousands had recovered from it. All I had to do was implement everything that I learned at Hippocrates.

He told me it would take at least two years. I left his office feeling like a boxer going into battle. I was pumped up, and nothing was going to beat me. We had a lovely passing-out parade and said goodbye to everyone. I am delighted to say we are still in touch with Gail.

Back at home in Dublin, I invested in an infrared sauna and started growing my own wheatgrass and sprouted foods.

Brian had told me that broccoli sprouts were 100 times more nutritious than the broccoli plant and by far the best sprout for killing cancer cells. I ate broccoli sprouts every chance I got, even when driving from one job to the next. I would have them beside me, eating handfuls as I drove along. I also juiced large amounts of them when I was green juicing every morning. I increased my green juicing to two pints in the morning and two pints in the evening, and every time I drank them, I would close my eyes and visualize cancer cells screaming for mercy as I swallowed my cancer-killing cocktail. Always after drinking the two pints, I would beat my

chest and shout out, "Body strong cancer gone!. I will not be defeated," as my affirmations. Each evening, I would make a massive salad with many sprouts in it, often taking over an hour to eat. I started to watch a lot of Joe Dispenza videos and started to believe in the process.

I started to practice gratitude and, in general, became much happier. Before I went to sleep at night, I would practice gratitude by thanking God for giving me the energy to get up every day and thanking my organs for working all day without me having to remind them. I paid special attention to my immune system. I would always remind myself that we were in a battle and that I needed to work harder every day. In my mind, I would say thank you to my immune system for working hard today. I would remind it that we still have work to do and that I wanted it to send all my killer T cells into my lungs, find all of the cancer cells, kill them, and also check the rest of my body. I would repeat this visualization and meditation multiple times as I fell asleep. I was taught breathing methods at Hippocrates but never practiced them until one evening, while researching, I came across Wim Hof. This was another exercise I practiced in the evening, along with a session on the rebounder and a session in my infrared sauna.

Before I got sick, my weight was 215 pounds, and now I was down to 147 pounds. A lot of people around me thought I did not have much time left on this earth as I was fading away, but I felt fine and never stopped believing in the process.

I was having scans quite regularly, and each scan showed a reduction in my tumors. After a couple of months, two of my tumors had disappeared, and I was left with one tumor, which was 3 mm in size. I was delighted with my self-healing powers, and again, I practiced gratitude. The following two scans showed no change, and the Oncologist told me he was going to use radiation therapy to burn it out. I replied, "No, thank you. My mind and body are getting rid of my cancer."

They were concerned about my weight loss, but I kept telling them it was not cancer; it was my new diet, which I explained on many occasions.

After another few scans, all that showed up was this 3mm tumor, and because it hadn't changed in the last three scans, they told me it was scar tissue and that I was in remission.

Annette was delighted with the news and asked the doctor to repeat what he said. "YOUR CANCER IS GONE," he replied.

Annette looked at me, sitting in my chair with no emotions showing. She said, "Did you not hear the doctor say the cancer was gone?" I did hear it, but I was not excited for some reason. I think in my mind, I had already accepted that I was healed.

I've been in remission for six years now, and from time to time, people call me for advice in fighting their disease. Some people have survived, while others have sadly passed. Today, my weight is 170 pounds. I still use green juice once a day, take my supplements, and practice gratitude because it makes me feel good. I don't eat anything with a face or dairy and eat salads a few times a week. My mind is extremely healthy with no toxic thoughts, and I plan to celebrate my 100th birthday in 42 years!

Even though Hippocrates Wellness has been helping people with everything from obesity to cancer for 70 years, it’s still a well-kept secret in many ways. The Florida-based retreat center is a place you hear about from a vegan friend, a cousin who experienced a miraculous restoration, or a naturopath who did a training program there.

PRIORITIZING MY WELLBEING

And so it was that I found myself suffering from a terrible back injury and going through one of the most stressful times in my life. On the recommendation of a friend, I’d been following an alkaline diet at home (many believe that a highly-oxygenated, alkaline diet and lifestyle ward off cancer and other diseases). I was also doing chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, massage, physical therapy, and anything else I could think of to heal my back. But it wasn’t enough.

The Path to SelfHealing: From Hospital Bed to Hippocrates In 1993, August 8th, I returned from the war in the former Yugoslavia to advise the shadow Defence Secretary, Dr. David Clark, that if they didn't get involved in stopping the war, there were going to be devastating massacres. Despite efforts to convey this urgency to the conservative government at the time, they'd just come out of Iraq and weren't interested in another war, even though it was on the doorstep. Eventually, they'd have to be involved, which, of course, they left too late.

Life often takes unexpected turns; in my case, this notion became a haunting reality. When I returned to the UK, I didn't have the slightest idea that this would be the day my life would alter its course so fundamentally. Ironically, after not losing my leg in the war, I crossed the street and was sent flying in the air by a police motorcycle, which severed my leg, crushed my pelvis, and punctured my lung. The next thing I knew, I was in Mount Vernon Hospital, having been urgently transported by a helicopter.

The aftermath of the police motorcycle incident was surreal and traumatizing, to say the least. Despite the medics managing to retrieve my shattered leg, its severe damage meant that reattachment was impossible, leading to its incineration. Hindsight makes me wish they had preserved it by freezing it so I could’ve kept it, but I wasn’t given the choice. As you can imagine, this experience was extremely shocking and plunged me into a profound state of disbelief.

Despite the life-changing damage to my leg, my pelvis was my most considerable injury, forcing me to lay flat for quite a long time in the hospital bed while they inserted metal plates across my pubis symphysis and my hips. I had a pneumothorax in my lung (a punctured lung), so I found it very difficult to breathe. For what felt like an eternity, five months in reality, I was demobilized in the hospital, a spectator to the gradual deterioration of my leg due to infection. They began with my foot and ankle, and then they kept removing more.

Unfortunately, my leg could not be saved. It had been severed below the knee, and during my recovery, there was a serious problem. An infection in my residual limb stubbornly refused to heal despite the most potent antibiotics. Ultimately, no biological weapon in the pharmacist's armory could cure my infection. Eventually, the bone became infected, resulting in the amputation of a further two inches from my limb. I desperately didn't want to lose my knee, as being an above-the-knee amputee creates even more complications, and I was at the point where I would try anything.

In a complete twist of fate, my girlfriend turned up, knowing how frustrated and sick I was, and said, "Right, you're coming with me to the place where I cured myself of breast cancer."

She spoke of her time there with such passion and genuine belief that it sparked my own genuine leap of faith, and to the open-mouthed surprise of many of those close to me, I checked myself out of the hospital and flew to Florida to embark on the transformative path of alternative therapy.

What a journey! Landing at the Hippocrates Wellness retreat was a complete shift from my Northeast roots, where sausage and mashed potatoes were the norm. Here, I was introduced to the incredible healing power of a natural, plant-based diet that completely transformed my perspective on wellness. At the heart of the Hippocrates' lifestyle were signature elixirs like wheatgrass shots and alkalizing green juices, all aimed at harnessing the body's innate healing abilities.

Under the guidance of co-directors Brian and Anna Maria Clement, I learned firsthand the pivotal role wheatgrass played in my healing journey. Adapting to this new routine was challenging, especially when faced with the distinctive taste of wheatgrass, which those of you who have tried it will know is unlike anything else.

To be honest, even today, I can't say I enjoy the taste, largely because I consumed copious amounts during my time there. Yet, despite my reaction, there's no denying the miraculous healing impact it had on me. Alongside practices like Colonics, chlorella, and nutrient-dense raw food, wheatgrass became integral to my transformative healing experience.

Enzyme-rich wheatgrass shots and garlic poultices were applied to my wound, and within just a few weeks, my radical change in diet and associated plant-based remedies cleared up my infection entirely. It was astounding.

The remarkable progress was so rapid that I reached a milestone I had never dreamt possible: getting fitted for a prosthetic leg while still at the retreat. This had seemed utterly implausible during my time battling infection in the hospital not long before. Finally, I could move forward and embrace the life awaiting me.

My time at Hippocrates gave me a deeper understanding of the importance of good nutrition and personal wellbeing; this has had a lasting impact on how I live my life.

I understood that individually, we are responsible for how we live and care for ourselves through good nutrition, proper exercise, and a balanced lifestyle. This, together with a strong, focused mind, enables us to draw from our vast inner resources and strength to make the most of our time on this planet.

I was only 25 years old at the time and had robust digestive enzymes and plenty of hydrochloric acid to digest all that nutritious raw food.

However, life threw a curveball with Lyme Disease, altering my ability to digest raw foods and break down fiber. This prompted a shift toward cooked foods. I continued consuming certain FODMAP raw foods - as I know they're the healthiest - balanced with cooked foods, and I have happily remained vegan for over 30 years. I'm now limited to ten vegetables, which is more than enough for my nutritional needs.

Realizing that convincing people to embrace a raw food lifestyle was challenging unless they faced serious health concerns or sought optimal wellbeing, I decided to introduce wheatgrass to the UK. I was interviewed on a popular morning TV show, GMTV, with presenters Lorraine Kelly and Dr. Hilary Jones. I can vividly remember them looking at me like I'd just brought some illegal marijuana on set, so I explained that it was wheatgrass and talked about the dangers of dairy and my own personal transformation. I could tell that, at the time, they thought I was mad! Fast-forward from 1993 to 2010, I became a contestant on the primetime show Dancing On Ice. This was a chance for me to champion charitable causes by donating all monies to charity and to inspire those with disabilities.

During this time, Dr. Hilary Jones, who had previously dismissed my vegan lifestyle, shared a groundbreaking revelation.

He confided that he was now employing the same diet to aid in healing many of his patients.

Witnessing this shift was fabulous and a testament to the impact of advocating for alternative approaches to health.

This experience emphasized the need to spread the message and not only educate others but also offer practical solutions for integrating healthier choices into everyday life. I realized the importance of a gradual transition, developing a staged process—Stage One, Stage Two, and Stage Three to gently wean individuals who are not necessarily unwell or initially motivated off the "opiates" of meat and dairy.

This spurred my creation of delicious plant-based alternatives that could be easily implemented into people's diets and meal plans, including the first vegan McDonald's burger, the first Burger King burger, and vegan cheese. I discovered that after 12 to 18 months,

some people didn't desire these alternatives due to their level of detoxification. This positive shift occurred as we incorporated more whole grains like quinoa and introduced raw foods, catering to those able to digest them, aiming to reset their microbiome. These substantial changes not only benefit human health but also contribute to the wellbeing of the planet.

Our initiative in the Bronx, New York, was a gamechanger. We gave $1 million worth of free food, which led to remarkable health transformations in just three months. Type two diabetes showed signs of reversal, while those with type one diabetes saw a reduction to just two daily insulin injections. Witnessing kids who previously lived off McDonald's switch to vegan burgers was a significant victory. What's even more heartwarming is that after a couple of years, they weren't just avoiding fast food but cultivating their own vegetables on rooftops, developing a genuine love for plants. Seeing this kind of transformation unfold more frequently is a testament to the power of reconnecting with our food and the natural world. It's a beautiful journey of rediscovery that holds immense promise for healthier, more sustainable living.

This inspired us to promote the meat-free alternatives harder. Establishing the New York Coalition for Healthy School Foods became a cornerstone of our mission, ensuring every school in New York had access to a plantbased option to support a healthier, greener future for generations to come. It's about providing delicious plantbased alternatives that replicate the taste and texture of meat, fish, and dairy while steering clear of the dietary, environmental, welfare, and sustainability challenges linked to animal agriculture and fishing industries. My life-transforming experience at Hippocrates Wellness was the catalyst for me to embrace veganism, reshaping my lifestyle and, ultimately, saving my leg from being amputated even further above the knee. Many years later, in my 40s, securing a Guinness World Record and becoming a gold medallist Ski Racer stood as a testament, proving that not only do vegans get enough protein but also that age is no barrier to achieving extraordinary feats. I was 47 at the time!

Now, at 56, I remain dedicated to the vegan lifestyle.

It's been a long time now since my accident. I am now able to look back on this event as a twist of fate that was a horribly painful beginning to what was to become a fascinating journey of self-discovery on a rollercoaster ride to what I would later understand to be Veganism.

Recently, it was so wonderful to see Brian and Anna Maria at their keynote 'Pioneers of Longevity' tour event in London. They are ageless and timeless, not only in their appearance but their energy and, more importantly, in their hearts. Recovery Most of us are addicted to bad living, even when we know better. Much of it is ingrained through the foods and misinformation we grew up with, and much is reinforced in unhealthy lifestyle choices we imprint into bad habits. Like drugs, toxic eating and living numb us from feeling and dealing with our problems. And we pay for that with our health and joy.

Within the 12-step addiction recovery model, recovery is an active, ongoing process. Nobody in that paradigm is “recovered,” as in fully cured. They say, “Once an addict, always an addict,” and that an addict needs to be forever vigilant to stay clean.

Hippocrates Wellness has been publishing recovery stories for years. We say recovery is real. We see people reverse illness, go into remission, and get well. As long as the lifestyle stays healthy, the person stays recovered. We say you can claim it. Recovery is real.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA: part of the Department of Health and Human Services of the US government) defines recovery as: “The process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a selfdirected life, and strive to reach their full potential.”

That doesn’t mean once out of the woods, there’s no possibility of returning to the woods. That’s where vigilance comes in. Old habits die hard, even when we have good intent. Unfortunately, I’ve seen my share of the Hippocrates Wellness guests reverting back to unhealthy eating after getting well on the program. That’s why guests return to the Institute: for reinforcement and practice.

Both the 12-step view and SAMHSA’s take on recovery apply to bad lifestyle habits as well as to drugs or alcohol.

When it comes to food, most of us are addicts. These questions emerge: can we recover? And what does it take to be recovered?

Here’s the road to recovery in a nutshell:

Step one:

Start doing the things that are good for you. Yes, just say yes to things you know are good. Why is it so hard to do things that benefit us? I think it comes down to a lack of self-love. We would never knowingly poison our children because we love them, yet we knowingly do poison ourselves.

Step three: Stick with Steps one and two.

Recovery also refers to rediscovering something that was lost. “I misplaced my wallet, but through the kindness of a stranger, I recovered it.” “My dog ran away, but when I looked for it, I found and recovered it.” Health can be like that. We had it but lost it. Now, we’re on a quest to regain and reclaim it. If I lose my ring and don’t see it for thirty years, it’s still mine, even if it was stolen from me! Good health belongs to you. Are you willing to claim it?

3. Recovery is Holistic. It encompasses a person’s whole life, including mind, body, spirit, family, and community.

5. Recovery is supported by addressing trauma. The experience of trauma is often the precursor to a bad lifestyle and addictive choices. Make sure you deal with your foundational values, beliefs, and feelings as you progress in your recovery.

6. Recovery is based on self-responsibility. Own your old habitual ways as you make new healthy choices. Avoid blaming and making excuses.

7. Recovery is based in respect. Acknowledge yourself for your courage to change. Self-acceptance, developing a positive and meaningful sense of identity, and regaining belief in yourself are vital.

Here’s my final message: recovery is real, and you can claim it!

The Dark Hole of Disorder

As a boy, I spent much of my time in nature. Not far from my home was a large and wide wooded area that harbored an abandoned well.

Folklore surrounded this, and my friends and even their parents would say that if you got too close, it would suck you in. My young mind did not grasp that this was a way the adults had to keep us safe so that we did not fall into the frightening abyss - this indeed worked! As my buddies and I grew older and a little more adventurous, we would quickly go and look in to see if the scary story was true. I never went as far as getting a rope to lower myself down, but even today, 70 years later, that image has been imprinted into my consciousness.

In my twenties, when I began my work in the field of progressive healthcare, I started to observe the afflicted, be it emotional, physical, or spiritual, as children who felt lured by the well but were equally frightened of it at the same time.

After spending several years in Europe, directing health centers and learning traditional approaches to medicine, I began to understand that society sees disease as a line in the sand. Seemingly, we all want to stay on the right side so that we do not cross over and end up ill. At the same time, when our lives have no reward and seem more like a series of uncontrollable events than a gift, this abduction of disorder rises. I am convinced that most people do not possess the desire to commit suicide since they do not see things as that bad, but conversely, they may unconsciously believe that the dark side is a way out of their mundane and unfulfilling existence.

Thousands of times when consulting an unhealthy person, the conversation becomes repetitive; “I have done so much to heal myself and to stay healthy.” When inquiring what they mean, they come up with a select gathering of stock answers that have nothing to do with wellbeing.

Further, they think that going to a health professional and asking them to heal them is a sincere effort that should work. When I challenge their premise in each case, they are shocked that I do not support their half-hearted attempt to pretend sincerity. To be well in a world of death, dying, and disease, one must submit to love, life, and harmony.

This is such an out-of-synch process for the average person; they do not relate it to health.

Our abstract view of how the world works and how we each play a role on the universal stage is a pinnacle fact that empowers us to recover from any and all disorders that we have manufactured from our own lost voyage. Inside your heart and soul, you contain a light that is so bright, even more so than a laser, that it can raise your spirit to soar above any concerns and your body to relinquish any abnormalities. Your imagination and perception, when well-fueled, are the guiding force in all healing that copulates into recovery. Your vision leads all else; its larger, wider, and limitlessness determines your depth and/or ceiling.

Mindfulness and vision that work entirely rely on your own inner ability to transcend. They are the most relevant and important methods to reach that goal.

Since most people lack adequate energy, their comprehension of recovery is inadequate. This is why they fall prey to the business of disease. This deceptive array of choices has one clear mantra, “Pay me, and I heal you.”

This undoubtedly results in failure since your personal mantra should be, “I will heal myself.” There is no shame in asking for help and guidance, but ultimately, you must gather the knowledge and wisdom and ignite it into the required explosion that finishes illness. All people I have seen recover from stage 4 disease do the same as those who want to heal the past by embracing the future. There is not a multitude of ways to recover; there is only one.

You gather your inner resources; you dramatically expand their powers, and you pursue healing as if your life depended upon it. In all cases, when YOU submit to YOU at this courageous and unhindered level, recovery will occur.

What most often hinders this proven formula is the lack of commitment to all healing areas. You can not have an affirmative attitude and be eating death and dying cuisine. You cannot aspire to a healthy body that harbors the soul, mind, and spirit and not keep it fit and functional. You cannot intellectualize about spirituality by memorizing ritualistic rhetoric and not employ spirit every moment without failure. The proposition of reversing disorder requires a comprehensive commitment to integrity at its highest level. When you are unwilling to put forth such a pure and expansive effort, the universe will not raise you above your own untruthful perception.

My colleague Dr. Larry Dossey articulated it so well, “When you put forth the level of energy necessary to recover, the universe will then connect with you and bring you to that place.”

Everything in the world and the greater whole is working exactly as it should. 100% of the time, it desires that you relax and harmonize with this limitless energy. There is no such thing as spontaneous remission; there are only rare events when people spontaneously release disorder by accepting the abnormality and greatness of life.

One example is colorectal cancer, especially that in the anal opening; shockingly in recent years this has increased by 50%. Until recently, mainstream science petitioned the worldwide public to gain funds to research why this may be happening, but finally, they are clearly stating that it is ultra-processed food, meat, and dairy consumption, a sedentary lifestyle, and environmental pollution that possibly begins in the utero, from what the mother consumes during pregnancy.

Why it has taken this long is shocking; generations ago, we understood that when a mother drank alcohol, it impaired the brain of the child, so why then would it not be that the consumption of fast foods and sugary chemical-laden drinks would not also impair the health of their unborn child.

Brain cancer, which was so rare in the early part of the twentieth century, is now the foremost killer of our infants. With growing data to support it, we hypothesize that it is the excessive use of electronics, including cell phones, computers, cell towers, etc. This is due to the electron activity within the human cells. At this rate, we are going to see cancer pervade the youngest among us at a higher rate than the aging population.

Lifestyle must be seriously considered and utilized in the conquest to stop this unfortunate trend. Jama, the Journal of American Medical Association, recently reported that 15,000 children and adolescents up to the age of nineteen would be diagnosed with cancer this year (2023) and that eighty-five percent of these children now, unlike in the 1970s, will survive beyond five years, but one must ask at what cost. As they grow older, they face significantly higher rates of the return of cancer, especially those who had radiation employed

specifically on that part of the body. The amount employed determines what form of cancer manifests.

There is a much higher amount of suicides among adults who had cancer as children, and most importantly, more than a third are chronically ill in some way throughout their lives. Obviously, the life expectancy of those treated with nuclear medicine in their developmental years is less than that of a healthy child who matures.

Our out-of-control, greed-centered culture in the developed world is now maiming our offspring. There does not seem to be any reversal, but this plaque will grow faster and wider in the future.

When will it be time that we pause and begin to utilize some common sense, compassionate, and empathetic methods that will curve this cruel, inhumane march to death? What kind of humanity do we have when we allow the youth among us to suffer ills that we, their forbearers, precipitate upon them?

In my half-century of work, I have been able to observe hundreds of thousands who took back responsibility for their lifestyle and dietary choices and stopped and conquered their disorder. Their lives bloomed back to where they should be, so they became contributing and functional members of our society.

Although we are talking about cancer in children, this is ironic since it is cancer of our hearts, souls, and minds that literally brings about this unwarranted and unnecessary suffering. It is up to each and every one of us to grasp our obligation to live at the highest level possible and become an example for our youth so they don’t have to harbor the wounds from this uncivilized society. | hippocrateswellness.org

The Forever Chemicals are Getting Into Ocean Ecosystems

Newfound Hybrid Brain Cells Send Signals like Neurons Do

PFAS can enter the food chain through marine plants and animals and harm human health.

Some astrocytes, thought to play only a supportive role in the brain, can communicate with neurons.

Our thoughts and feelings arise from networks of neurons - brain cells that send signals using chemicals called neurotransmitters. But neurons aren't alone. They're supported by other cells called glia (Greek for "glue"), which were once thought to hold nerve tissue together. Today, glia are known to help regulate metabolism, protect neurons, and clean up cellular waste—critical but unglamorous roles. Now, however, neuroscientists have discovered a type of "hybrid" glia that sends signals using glutamate, the brain's most common neurotransmitter. These findings breach the rigid divide between signaling neurons and supportive glia. “I hope it's a boost for the field to move forward, to maybe begin studying why certain [brain] circuits have this input and others don't,” says study co-author Andrea Volterra, a neuroscientist at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland.

Also known as the “forever chemicals," PFAS have been raising health concerns across the country and are not just a problem in drinking water. As these chemicals leach out of failing septic systems and landfills and wash off airport runways and farm fields, they can end up in streams that ultimately discharge into ocean ecosystems where fish, dolphins, manatees, sharks, and other marine species live. PFAS have been linked to immunological disorders, endocrine, developmental, reproductive, and neurological disruption, and increased risk of bladder, liver, kidney, and testicular cancer. A drinking water study by the U.S. Geological Survey estimated these chemicals were in at least 45% of tap water across the U.S. A large percentage of Americans are now believed to have PFAS detectable in their blood.

Fathers’ Drinking May Affect Fertility and Fetal Brain Development Historically, only women’s drinking was considered a risk during pregnancy, but new research points to the role of fathers’ habits as well.

Research clearly shows that sperm carry a vast amount of epigenetic information – meaning heritable shifts in the way genes are expressed that don’t result from changes in the DNA sequence – that strongly influences fetal development and child health. Yet most doctors and other health care providers do not consider the influence of paternal health and lifestyle choices on child development.

Today, doctors and scientists recognize that as many as 1 in 29 U.S. school children may exhibit some form of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, a term referring to a wide range of alcohol-related physical, developmental, and behavioral deficits, many of which cause lifelong challenges for those affected.

Beliefs about Emotions Influence How People Feel, Act, and Relate to Others Thinking about a range of emotions as friends rather than foes improves the quality of our lives. Our beliefs about emotions— whether we feel that they’re good or bad, controllable or uncontrollable, or useful or harmful—profoundly affect our lives and relationships. In 2020 the journal Frontiers in Psychology devoted an entire issue to everyday beliefs about emotion. Why is all of this happening now? "It all goes along with a growing interest in our response to moods and stress responses," says Stanford University psychologist James J. Gross. “I think this interest that’s been cooking for the past couple of decades has been magnified by the pandemic,” he says. “I think there’s a growing awareness of how anxious and depressed and stressed so many of us are.” He notes that there’s a robust link between beliefs about the controllability of emotions and the use of emotion-regulation strategies to reduce anxiety and depression.

Is Snoozing the Alarm Good or Bad for Your Health?

New research suggests that hitting the snooze button to squeeze in an extra five or 10 minutes of sleep may actually be good for you.

A new study published in the Journal of Sleep Research found that people who regularly press the snooze button lost only about six minutes of sleep per night—and that it didn't affect their morning sleepiness or mood. In fact, tests showed that it actually improved cognition. This adds to further research in 2022 that also found chronic snoozers generally felt no sleepier than non-snoozers.

"Snoozing for a limited time in the morning is probably not bad for you," says the lead author of the new study, Tina Sundelin, a sleep researcher at Stockholm University. She says that her study is one of few that have directly tested snoozing's effect on sleep health, and it supplies evidence that snoozing doesn't break up sleep in a harmful way.

An AI Model Could Help Clear Land Mines Finding and removing land mines is an excruciatingly slow process.

Human deminers scour contaminated ground inch by inch with handheld metal detectors, waiting for the telltale beep of a magnetic anomaly. Although trained dogs are sometimes used, metal detectors have remained the go-to clearance method since the end of World War II. “There’s a very long period where there hasn’t been much innovation in the field,” says Jasper Baur, a Ph.D. student in volcanology and remote sensing at Columbia University. Baur and his collaborators at Safe Pro Group, a manufacturer of personal protective gear, have been developing a drone-based machine-learning technology to make demining safer and faster than traditional methods. Baur and his team have visited Ukraine to test the technology multiple times since the start of the war there. They hope their work can speed up a demining process that, using current resources, could take more than 750 years. By some estimates, Ukraine has about 67,000 square miles (an area roughly the size of Florida) that could harbor mines and other explosives. "With the new system, you can scan wide areas of land and try to figure out where the highest density of contamination is before sending in humans to defuse the mines," Baur says.

Can waste plastic be converted into hydrogen gas and a type of graphene—at a profit?

Zapping Plastic Waste Can Produce Clean Fuel

Hydrogen gas is a carbon-free energy source that can be burned instead of fossil fuels. But its most common production method relies on methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Other known methods are costly and resource-intensive. Now, researchers have found a cleaner—and, in theory, profitable—way to make hydrogen gas from waste plastic. The process also generates graphene, an extremely valuable ultrathin carbon material used in electronics, concrete, and car parts. This method could help keep heat-trapping carbon out of the atmosphere, says James Tour, a Rice University chemistry professor and senior author of a recent study on the topic, published in Advanced Materials. For a 2020 study, Tour and his team used a strong electric current to heat plastic to about 2,700 degrees Celsius for mere milliseconds (a method called flash Joule heating), which breaks down plastic's chemical bonds. This technique produced a type of graphene that has several atom-thin sheets of carbon lattices rather than the typical single layer. It also released a gas, but the team needed further analysis to confirm what it was. Now, the researchers have found it was up to 94 percent pure hydrogen.

Cryptic Sex Certain wingless, sticklike insects that hide in bushes and trees across central California do not need males. These insects in the Timema genus are nearly all female and reproduce without sex by creating genetic clones of themselves, a process called parthenogenesis. But entomologists occasionally stumble on male Timema insects, which seem to have no reproductive function. “We initially assumed that the males were just errors, as loss of a single X chromosome can result in an egg developing into a male,” says ecologist Susana Freitas, who led the study while working at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. Freitas and her team found that the uncommon males may engage in infrequent flings with the females. This “cryptic sex” introduces genetic diversity into stick insect populations and might aid their long-term survival. The team’s genetic analysis was recently published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
