Shopping can be a pleasure!

HRISTMAS SHOPPING… a time of year to find that thoughtful gift which shows how much you care, appreciate or love someone. Rather than it be a chore (which many find it to be!) turn it into a pleasure across the Range, while supporting local business at the same time.

C

I know I would rather potter through hinterland markets and unique shops, than head down to the chaos and bright lights of the plaza! Our Christmas Gift Guide has plenty of suggestions if you’re feeling stumped on what to choose, and we have various Christmas events to share, so you can plan where to hear some joyous carols, see some sparkling lights, and be part of your community’s festivities. This is also a hard time of year for many people, where they need our donations and our support over the holidays. We have information on how to help at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre’s Christmas breakfast and where to leave your gifts for those less fortunate. So, with everything from local produce and handmade gifts, to pampering treats and jewellery, our beautiful hinterland is the place to make Christmas shopping something to look forward to. (Plus there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy fresh food and great coffee.) From all the team at the Hinterland Times, we wish you, your family and friends, a healthy, happy, festive time!

Nambour Community Carols & Twilight Christmas Markets

The Nambour Community Carols are a free, family-friendly event for the whole community at the Nambour Showgrounds from 3.00 - 8.00pm. Every year thousands of people come to enjoy the free kids’ entertainment - rides, jumping castle, animal farm, face painting, balloons, and much more. The Nambour Community Carols is not just carol singing, there are also over 40 market stalls at the Twilight Christmas Markets. Divinely delicious food is available from local food vendors; have free photos taken in the giant snow globe or just sit back, relax and enjoy two hours of fabulously festive entertainment put on by very talented locals. All of this festive cheer comes to an end with a spectacular fireworks finale! To cover the costs of this incredible event, the Nambour Community Carols rely on sponsorship and donations from the council, businesses, churches and local individuals. Please bring a new, unwrapped pressie to place under the tree for local kids in need. This year, Nambour Community Carols are once again partnering with Christmas Care and Sunny Kids to distribute Christmas presents to local children in need. Help to make this a memorable Christmas for those less fortunate!

19-24 The annual Maleny Christmas Tree Festival

25 Maleny community Christmas breakfast

Held at Maleny Uniting Church, 1290 Landsborough/Maleny Road, Maleny, this is becoming a very popular Christmas event.

This is a free Christmas Day breakfast, all are welcome, 7 - 11am at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre (MNC), 17 Bicentenary Lane, Maleny.

Capturing the sights, sounds and wonder of Christmas, the theme this year is Christmas Growing Up. Over 40 trees and displays will capture this theme in their own individual ways. Children will be well catered for - the trees will captivate them, plus there will be plenty of hands-on activities including the Kids’ Play Zone which will have a choice of activities, craft, quizzes and Christmas books. Visitors are asked to make a gold coin donation, and all donations this year will go to the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre. For more details visit www.malenyuniting.com.au, Facebook or call 0409 586 601.

24 Kenilworth community Christmas Eve event Join in from 5-9pm at Kenilworth Showgrounds for Santa, free rides, carols and barbecue.

It is easy to forget that not everyone is as fortunate as us at Christmas time. The team at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre never forgets. For years, the MNC has helped families and individuals in need to enjoy Christmas cheer like everyone else. The traditional Maleny event, which is the only free community breakfast event on the Hinterland, relies on donations from local businesses to contribute to the celebrations. This yearly event is well attended, usually by about 500 people, with hot and cold breakfast choices served, including vegetarian options. As always, MNC are calling on community volunteers to place their names on our roster at the Centre’s front desk. The shifts are two hours long and well worth the experience of serving the community. Or call (07) 5499 9345 for roster options. Santa will be putting in an appearance between 9.30am - 10am and all children receive a present. Maleny Neighbourhood Centre would like to thank all their donors in advance who support this breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausages, cereals, milk and yoghurt. There will be an opportunity to donate to the Centre on the day or on our website. These donations enable the team to run their programs and keep the doors open.
