A Set of Eight Ink Cakes of various forms, molded in low relief, one side depicting dragons, mythical beasts, auspicious objects, bell, vase and clouds, seven ink cases with the reverse having gilt decorated inscriptions, the sides carved with a signature Hu Kaiwen (Chinese, Qing Dynasty), all fitted in a brocade box having a label written babao qizhen (“eight precious objects”). Length of longest 5 1/8 inches. $700-900 A Group of Four Soapstone Seals the first a yellow stone with russet inclusions carved with lotus and leaves on top and vertical inscriptions to one side, the second a near-white stone having red inclusions, of rectangular section and having three-line inscriptions on one side, surmounted by a recumbent bixie, the third a small rectangular caramel stone with a chilong resting atop and having horizontal inscriptions to one side, the fourth a mottled russet stone of rectangular form with rounded edges surmounted by a tianlu with finely carved details, inscribed with the signature of Bishan (Hu Zhen, circa 1817-1862).
