36* A Paraiba Tourmaline Crystal, Paraiba, Brazil, clearly displaying trigonal structure and an intact termination, the crystal possesses the pure and intense blue color this locality is rightfully famed for.

Gemological Note: Properly designated as cuprian bearing elbaite, tourmaline of intense green, greenish blue and blue hues of this type were first discovered in the state of Paraiba, Brazil. As the name suggests, the inclusion of copper serves as the chromophore and beautiful tourmaline of this variety has since been discovered in Nigeria and Mozambique.
