Baudelaire was prosecuted and fined for offending public morals on August 20, 1857. Following the judgement, the publisher of this work was ordered to remove six poems that do not appear in later printings. Light wear to boards; lacking original frontispiece; reproduction photograph of Baudelaire tipped to front pastedown and bookplate of Gabrielis Nuncii tipped to rear pastedown; marginalia in blue ink affecting 14 pages. A portion of the Temporale, from The Feast of the Holy Trinity to the 23rd Sunday after Pentacost. The text begins with the introit for the Feast of the Holy Trinity (Tobit 12:6 “Benedicta sit sancta Trinitas”) and ends with the Mass of the 23rd Sunday after Pentacost (introit begins “Dicit Dominus ego cogito cogitationes”).
