(italian/American, 1912-2000)

Born in Calabria, Italy and raised in Rome, Spampinato studied sculpture at the Liceo Artistico di Roma and the Academia di Nudo. He later immigrated to New York City and worked with his brother, the well-known sculptor Clemente Spampinato. Mario Spampinato eventually moved to the Chicago area, where he opened his own studio and foundry and was one of the first to use the lost wax process in the United States.
