I just finished my undergraduate study in Architecture at the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII). I have tons of interest in making concepts story and creating experimental design expressions such as form, space, and material sensitivity for any architectural or design project. I often participated in various competitions and received several awards, for me architecture isn't just about designing, it's about solving problems and giving value to the building and space in a way that's unique to the architecture itself. I hope to start my journey to gain many new experiences and lessons as an architect in the future.

Indonesia is located at the confluence of active tectonic plates, resulting in some areas being vulnerable to natural disasters. The impacts of natural disasters are not only physical and material but also on the victim's mental health and social psychology. Natural disasters and mental health could have a st strong connection because these experiences greatly impacted someone's life including the mental health of the victims facing the loss of their loved ones. Architectural Presentation Board

As stated by BNPB and Ministry of Health Book

3092 665 14116 8.426.609 disasters that occurred in Indonesia during 2021

victims died

victims were injured and suffered

people affected and evacuated

The data above proved that natural disasters not only caused physical loss but also caused a post-disaster psychological loss that needs special attention by us.

Concepts and Bulding Function Based on the various problems above, the design will combine 2 functions, Ruang Memorial (Memorial Room/Space) & Community Center. The goal is to help the traumatic survivors caused by the natural disasters along with improving the economy of the area that has been lost and keeps decreasing due to the natural disaster caused by a tsunami. For that reason, the chosen approach will refer to the application of Healing Architecture as the space design that can recover the victim’s psychological by carrying out spatial experiences that are closely related to anthropometry and human anthropomorphic to build a healing environment that influences the victim’s behavior and psychological to find a place to live their life again. Thus, this design is named “Manjili” which comes from the “Kaili” language and means “Return”/”Come back”

Health Many people affected by natural disasters suffer post-disaster trauma that has not received any attention from the public. Hence, the concept of Healing Architecture is applied as the approach for the design.

History The location is a beach whose beauty was swept away by the tsunami, resulting in the local economy down. Therefore, the memorial space's design is built to improve without forgetting the natural disaster that happened at that time.

Background

Micro & Macro Location

15.000m2

According to BNPB, Palu is one of the cities in Sulawesi Tengah that is prone to earthquakes and tsunamis. The reason is because it is traversed by the Palu Koro fault line.

2015 2018

This macro location selection is based on Palu City which is known for its beautiful beach and one of them is Talise Beach. Due to the tsunami that occurred in 2018, Talise Beach was destroyed along with the local economy, starting from the loss of livelihood, property, and fatalities, up to people who suffered from trauma.

2021

Local People’s Behavior

Local visitors selling foods

Adults and kids tourist from other cities

Local tourist healing therapy

Local tourist selling handicraft

In 2020, Talise Beach in Palu improved with the given of a “breakwater” usually called a wave breaker by absorbing some of the wave energy with piles of rocks around it to prevent abrasion that can erode the coastline. Nowadays, many people come alone or with their partner to contemplate which is believed to be a way of healing by watching the sea and its scenery, playing in the water, selling food, and even handicrafts.

MEMORIAL SOACE PHASE 1 “UNKNOWN SPACE” This area is the first phase of the memorial space. In this area, the visitors will lead to the 3 meters width hallway with high stone walls around it. In this hallway, the visitors will experience how small a human is in front of the high walls and without any context/information, that is why this hallway is named an unknown space. MEMORIAL SPACE PHASE 2 “SPACE OF FEAR” After walking through the first phase, the visitors will lead to the second phase. In this area, the hallway is built smaller with a narrow roof and dark nuance for the interior. Water falls into the circulation area with the sound of water splashing around the foot areas. The timeline of the tsunami is also added in this hallway. This hallway has a meaning of tsunami with the signs of water level drop. Thus, this hallway is called a space of fear. MEMORIAL SPACE PHASE 3 “SHAPE OF WATER SPACE” After passing through the space of fear, the visitors will enter an area with a roof that gradually rises higher, the visitors will experience the height of the roof to feel how the tsunami waves occurred at that time, with the sound of waves rushing as an addition in the inner area, therefore, this phase is called the shape of water space which means the shape of the tsunami waves happened in 2018. MEMORIAL SPACE PHASE 4 “ROOM OF SADNESS” After the visitors experience the high waves, they will enter a large room surrounded by pictures of tsunami information and victims' names of the tsunami that occurred in 2018. The roof area is designed with tempered glass material coated with a water surface on it to make the shadows from the water go through the room and visitors will experience it like they are inside the water. It is called the room of sadness because the victims’ names and illustrations of the tsunami are displayed.

MEMORIAL SPACE PHASE 5 “SPACE OF HOPE” After experiencing a large room under the shade of a glass roof, the visitors will go out uphill step by step until reaching the outdoor area. In this area, visitors will feel relief from the wide ocean along with the circulation gradually increasing. This area is named “Space of Hope” because the visitors will feel life again after going through the narrow and fearing ambiance from the previous phases. MEMORIAL SPACE PHASE 6 “SPACE FOR CONTEMPLATION” Phase 6 is the last stage of the memorial space series which also means letting go of everything that has happened, with a view of the oceans and mountains the visitors will be able to contemplate in silence while enjoying open scenery, creating a solemn space and full of acceptance, to turn it into hope and life in the future.

Hotel Toegoe is a hotel that was built in the early 20th century on Jalan Pangeran Mangkubumi Number 2, Yogyakarta, which is east of Yogyakarta Station. Hotel Toegoe has been a silent witness in Indonesia's struggle to achieve national sovereignty. In 1949, Hotel Toegoe was chosen as the venue for the first inter-Indonesian conference in order to prepare for the Round Table Conference to be held in the same year in The Hague, Netherlands. But unfortunately, now the building is just abandoned.

Architectural Presentation Board

The revitalization concept of Hotel Toegoe is designed with an environment / green basis. This is a form of distraction from the negative stigma of the hotel's image by the people of the city of Jogja that the hotel is a 'source of disaster'. the choice of the concept. This concept is applied in the form of pr providing a green space filled with eucalyptus trees, bamboo, and other plants. In addition, there is a jogging track that surrounds the forest for people to exercise in their place.

Jalan Sudirman is an area in the city of Jakarta which is very close to the Central Business District. The area also has several environmental issues, such as non-architectural and even architectural issues. So the purpose of this design is to provide rental offices as well as creative and cu cultural spaces for the community and especially for the younger generation to get to know culture more deeply, with the overall concept of being environmentally friendly (Green Building) with the principle of sustainability (Sustainability). SOEDIRMAN Tower has a land area of 3,000m2 with a total building area of 12,000.79 m2 which is divided into 6 types according to TOR, namely Public, Annex, Rental Office, Management & Support, EEC, and Circulation and parking.

Site Transformations

1

The site has an area of 3,000m2 with non-contoured soil types in urban areas.

2

The built area is positioned far from the road border because there is a border road rule as far as 8m from the road.

3

Then paving blocks and grass blocks are made for the circulation of motorized vehicles with a road width of 5m - 6m.

4

The design has a strategy to make people reduce their means of transportation with private vehicles, therefore a bike track area is made to meet the GBCI benchmark.

5

To fulfill the green open space (RTH) of 30% (according to local regulations), several water catchment areas are made on the surface of which are planted with grass to make it look fresher and have a water binder on the soil surface.

6

Due to the limited land area, a semi-basement area was created which at the back of the circulation was made open, as well as to reduce the aridity of urban areas, as well as minimize heat, it is necessary to have vegetation with a certain orientation in the site area.

Massing Transformations

1 The built area is positioned far from the road border because there is a border road rule as far as 8m from the road.

2 The position of the Annex and the tower are placed separately for maximum distribution on a limited area. It also responds in terms of the landscape which will be more diverse.

3

4

Cutting mass to reduce direct radiation from the sun, as well as to respond to wind movement. The mass cuts also took a response to take advantage of the views in the Northwest and north areas towards the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.

5 Then to make the office more measured in terms of humidity and shade, vegetation is added to the outside area for the alfresco area as well as light shading that enters some areas.

Once upon a time, the relationship between humans and nature (ecology) was very close. However, over time, many things have changed. Technology is developing, some are used well, some are not. Village youths go to big cities to look for work, until finally human resources are not managed and not utili utilized properly. Rivers are polluted by factory waste from technology, trees are cut down illegally, forests are deforested, and finally the ecology is tenuous. How wonderful it would be if it didn't happen in the present, is it possible? Can nature and technology go hand in hand?

Riverfront Design Concepts

Potential Area

Sitiwinangun is known for its creative industry center as the pottery village. Being the oldest pottery center in West Java and since 2015 the pottery production process has become a separate identity for the Sitiwinangun community as an interesting heritage from their ancestors. In developing Sitiwinangun, you can take advantage of the natural potential that you already have, namely Pottery & Jamblang River which is al on the outskirts of the village.

Canopy Walk & Bike Track Explorations

The Sitiwinangun area is very close to pottery production, because the people there mostly work as pottery craftsmen. This is a huge potential to be developed, because there are still many people who still do not know about the Sitiwinangun area. Therefore, with this Cultural Center design, it aims to increase the potential of natural resources and the economy of the community there.

the lack of agrarian land for gardening and farming has resulted in residents working in this sector having to move to neighboring villages. This resulted in the absence of agricultural products and harvests that were of sufficient quality, because the land was not sufficiently qualified. With this farming space design, it is hoped that the local community and youth who want to cultivate crops can channel their activities and the results can be used by selling or processing into various kinds of food for the village itself.

The farming space design is built on an area of 1600m2 with the aim of responding to the problems described above. The zoning of this farming space is divided into 2 parts, namely the planting area and the commercial area. In this farming space, there are also 3 planting areas, 2 of which are the workshop area in the commercial area and the third is in the planting area which is also the main planting area.

Vacation House is a commercial residence for tourists visiting the tourist area of the area. The location is on steeply contoured land with breccia soil type. The area is also a dry rice field with a location far from local residents, but at a high altitude it is one of the best views on the site that can show Yog Yogyakarta from the perspective of a bird.

Architectural Presentation Board

Design Report Book

MANDALA Vacation house carries the concept of take and gift to the natural surroundings, so that the design will be a paradigm shift from arid to fresh in the area around the site. MANDALA Vacation house is divided into 2 spaces that make different activities in the interior area, namely the ac active place and inactive place. With the tagline “Feel the Outside in the Depth of Space”, the vacation house design is made in harmony with the natural response around the site because residents of the vacation house will feel the feel of being in the wild but still in the shade of a space.

Characteristics of Environment Activists With the analysis of activities that are more dominant in the outdoor space, the Vacation House Mandala design was made with the concept of "Feeling the Outside in the Depth of Space" with the need for space for adjusting user activities as above.

Massing Transformations

The mass composition of this design is in the form of a circle inspired by the flower crown found in the site area, finally MANDALA Vacation house is named MANDALA which means round in Sanskrit.
