HSC Scholarship Program 2019 General Information 1. Students entering Grade 7 in September 2019 may apply for an Academic Scholarship. Students entering Grade 9 in September 2019 may apply for an Academic Scholarship and an Alumni Association Leadership Award, but may receive only one of these scholarships. The Alumni Legacy Honorarium may be received by a Grade 9 candidate in conjunction with another scholarship.

2. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted to the Admissions Office by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, November 23, 2018. Incomplete applications for the Academic Scholarships or the Alumni Association Leadership Award will not be considered for awards.

3. All new students must make application for admission by the deadline. They must also complete the entire admissions process and receive an offer of admission by the time that scholarship decisions are being made in January.

4. Grades 7 and 9 scholarship examinations will be held at Hillfield Strathallan College on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Senior School, exams begin at 9:15 a.m. and will end at approximately 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

5. The examinations will determine proficiency in English and math. All Grade 9 candidates must bring a scientific calculator.

6. Candidates may bring a water bottle into the examination room.

7. All applications and supporting documentation are considered confidential and will only be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.

8. All scholarships and awards are applied to the 2019/2020 tuition. They are not cash awards.

9. The Scholarship Committee, chaired by the Director of Admissions, determines all scholarship award winners, subject to approval by the Head of College.

The successful recipients are notified by the Head of College prior to the end of January.

The Head of College reserves the right to withdraw any of the scholarships, if the recipient does not maintain his or her academic standing or is in serious breach of the College’s code of conduct.

1. Hillfield Strathallan College Academic Scholarships For new or current students entering Grades 7 and Grade 9 in September 2019 Introduction The Academic Scholarships are based on academic achievement in the scholarship examinations, previous academic performance and a foundation of academic success as demonstrated through report cards.

Purpose The purpose is to recognize and celebrate student academic achievement.

Eligibility The Academic Scholarships are offered to eligible new students and current HSC students who are entering Grades 7 and 9 next September. Applicants must have strong academic ability as demonstrated through report cards, and should be consistently achieving an overall average of 85% or better. All new students must make application for admission by the deadline. They must also complete the entire admissions process and receive an offer of admission by the time that scholarship decisions are being made in January.

Monetary Value Our Academic Scholarships are valued from $1,000-$10,000 and are applied as onetime awards to the 2019/2020 tuition. They are not cash awards.

2. Hillfield Strathallan College Alumni Association Leadership Award For new or current students entering Grade 9 in September 2019 Introduction The successful recipients of the Alumni Association Leadership Awards will be students who embody the College’s Mission, Vision and Values, most notably a commitment to “academic excellence” and “a broad approach to education” that includes academics, the arts, athletics, community service and leadership opportunities.

Each year these scholarships celebrate two students (one male and one female) entering Grade 9, in recognition of their leadership achievements and potential.

Purpose The purpose is to recognize and celebrate excellence in student leadership.

Eligibility The Alumni Association Leadership Awards are offered to eligible new students and current HSC Grade 8 students who are entering Grade 9 next September. Interview A selection committee established and chaired by the Director of Admissions, reviews all applications and a short list of candidates will be selected and contacted by letter to move to the interview phase. These selected candidates will be asked to provide one letter of reference.

Monetary Value Each scholarship is valued at $10,000 and is applied as a one-time award to the 2019/2020 tuition.

3. Hillfield Strathallan College Alumni Legacy Honoraria For new or current students entering Grade 9 in September 2019 This one-time $500 honorarium is given to any child or grandchild of an alumnus to celebrate the family’s legacy at the College. An alumnus is defined as any student who fulfilled a minimum of one year at HSC. Current student recipients will be recognized during Grade 8 graduation. All candidates will receive their honorarium by reimbursement through the Business Office upon the September tuition of the recipient’s Grade 9 year.
