............ kidscooking Vanilla Butterfly Cupcakes Ingredients: 125 g Unsalted Butter (softened) 3/4 cup Sugar 2 egg (beaten) 1 1/4 cup plain flour 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/2 cup milk 150 ml thickened cream (whipped) 1/2 cup raspberry jam Soft Icing Mixture (for dusting) With a parent’s help, preheat the oven to 180°C and place 12 paper cases into a cupcake tin. Beat the butter and sugar in a bowl with an electric mixer on medium until pale and fluffy. Slowly add the eggs and mix well. Add the flour, baking powder, vanilla and milk, and continue to mix until smooth. Be careful not to mix too quickly or the ingredients will fly out of the bowl! Carefully spoon the batter evenly between the paper cases, and then ask Mum or Dad to transfer them into the oven for 20 minutes or until cooked and lightly golden. Once baked, remove the cupcakes from the oven and cool on a wire rack. When the cupcakes have cooled completely, use a knife to cut a 2cm circle from the top of each cupcake. Cut the tops in half and set aside. Spoon one teaspoon of whipped cream into each cupcake hole, and then top with a little bit of jam. Finish the butterfly cakes by placing two halved cake pieces over the cream to create wings. Dust with icing sugar and then the cupcakes are ready!

kidscrafts ............ Clay Pot Snowman You will need: Small clay pot Medium sized clay pot White and black paint Paint brush Red ribbon 2 googly eyes Blue 3-D paint Orange felt or construction paper Glue Scissors How to make your Clay Pot Snowman Paint the medium sized pot white and the small pot black and set aside to dry. Turn the black pot upside down and glue a strip of red ribbon on top of the rim of the pot. Turn the white pot upside down and place the black pot onto of it as the hat. Glue two eyes onto the white pot. Cut a small triangle out of orange felt and glue it onto the white pot under the eyes. Dip the handle end of the paint brush into black paint and use it to make dots in the shape of a smile under the orange nose.Use the blue 3-D paint to write “Let it snow” on the bottom rim of the white pot.

Ice Skate Bookmarks You will need: Needle Embroidery thread Felt Large paperclip How to make your Ice Skate Bookmark Fold your felt in half and cut out a boot shape slightly narrower than the paperclip with the base of the boot along the fold. Slip one side of the boot through the paperclip. Using a neat running stitch, sew around the outside of the boot with one strand of embroidery thread. Sew along the bottom at the top of the paperclip so it stays in place. We’ve used the same colour thread as our felt for the stitching. To make the laces, cut a length of embroidery thread. Sew into the top of the boot, bring the needle back to the same side to make the second stitch so the thread forms a loop, and repeat down the boot and back up. You should end up with a criss cross effect and the ends of the thread hanging from the different sides of the boot. Tie the ends into a bow and trim.

Pom Pom Snowman You will need: White or cream coloured yarn Scissors Pipe cleaners Craft glue or a hot glue gun Twigs from your garden Beads, buttons, felt, ribbon, bling, etc. How to make your Pom Pom Snowman

To make your snowman, you’ll first need to make two pom poms of different sizes, one for the body and one for the head of the snowman. Here we’ve made a 9 cm (3.5”) and a 6 cm (2.5”) diameter pom pom. Take the two loose ends of each pom pom and tie them together using a simple overhand knot. Tighten the knot so that the two pom poms come together firmly. Secure with a second overhand knot, and then trim off the spare yarn. Decorate your Snowman Make a cute pair of ear-muffs for your snowman by rolling up the ends of a pipe cleaner and bending it into a U-shape. Using craft glue, attach a twig to either side of the body of the snowman as arms. Glue on two eyes and a nose to make the face. Here we’ve used some beads, but goggly eyes or small circles of felt also work really well. Tie a small piece of ribbon or felt around the neck of the snowman to make a scarf. You can also glue on some buttons, sequins, or felt circles onto the front of the snowman. The options for decorating your Snowman really are endless!
