Hiho Silver Country Shows Journal
COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS Special Edition
ISSUE4 November 2016 1
to the Hiho Silver Country Shows Journal
Welcome to the Christmas issue of the Hiho Silver Country Shows Journal. As we start the countdown to Christmas, we have a bit of time to reflect on the year as our show schedule slows down a bit (although we’re going to Olympia, so please come on over and see us there!). It’s been lovely to see so many of you at the shows and events we’ve attended, so thank you so much for making the effort and coming to say hello. We’ve been busy working on our own Christmas collection (some of which you’ll see in the Journal), and invite you to come on over to the website or our shops to see what we have for you and your loved ones this year. With our sister brand, Doris & Co, you really can get something for all the family from us – we’ll make your Christmas a whole lot easier and, if you’re not good with gift wrap, we are - so why not let us gift wrap for you! Now, on to the Journal. This one is a bit special. We have an amazing competition where one lucky winner will bag themselves over £1000 worth of gorgeous products from some of our favourite companies, and we’ve also put together gift guides for her, for him, for children and pets, to give you a little more festive inspiration. We’ve also approached the 12 days of Christmas in a slightly different way. But more about that later! Thanks for reading this Journal. Please share with your friends, be inspired and don’t forget to enter the competition! Happy Christmas from all of us, to all of you. Team Hiho
Andrew is Hiho Silver’s very own ‘King of the Road’. If you’ve visited a Hiho stand at any event, the chances are you’ve seen him on it with his courtly ladies! When he’s not there, he’s busy designing the stand or sourcing beautiful jewellery for us.
Emma is best known in her role as Managing Director (or Queen Bee) at Hiho Silver, but she has many, many other strings to her bow! She supports lots of small businesses with their growth plans and works mainly on creative growth ideas.
Rhea specialises in anything equestrian and in addition to running her own PR and marketing agency in this area, she’s also a part of the Niche Brands team.
Nathalie is a freelance marketer with a lot of good ideas and an unwavering passion for all things creative... bringing a certain “Je ne sais quoi” to team Hiho.

Our take on the
days of Christmas
We’re not saying the original 12 Days of Christmas doesn’t have a certain appeal, but fitting a partridge, a tree, a number of geese, leaping Lords and the rest of the song into the Journal was always going to be a challenge, so we’ve approached it a slightly different way, that we think (and hope) you’ll love.
Day1: William & Alice Fox-Pitt
Each day of Christmas is represented by a person…and we have some amazing ‘days’ lined up for you to enjoy. Each ‘day’ has included what they’d like for Christmas and some personal snaps that you may or may not have seen before. We have eventers, a dressage rider, a show jumper, actually, far too many to list here! We hope you enjoy our take on the 12 days!

Alice is now the ‘face’ of the Event Rider Masters, a superb competition that injected new life (and real prize money) into the sport of eventing in 2016. Alice is a presenter of Channel 4 racing and was previously an eventer and a National Hunt jockey. She’s also heavily involved with Fox-Pitt Eventing and looking after Oliver, Thomas, Chloe and Emily, the couple’s four children.
A: A ragdoll kitten W: A TV system that works
William hardly needs an introduction, and his eventing achievements are too numerous to list, but he’s been World Number One three times, British Number One nine times, has won at Badminton, Rolex Kentucky, Pau and Burghley…he’s without a doubt one of Britain’s most successful event riders of all time. And that’s before we mention his Olympic successes.
The eventing world was shocked when William sustained a heavy fall and head trauma at Le Lion d’Angers, France in October 2015. William spent over a week in an induced coma but made an amazing recovery and started competing again in April this year. Even more amazingly, William made it to the Olympics with super stallion Chilli Morning, the horse he’d won Badminton with the year before.

Anything Hiho!! Because it’s all just beautiful and very versatile.
Emily King 2 If you’re an eventing fan, let alone a Hiho fan, you’ll know about Emily. She’s been Hiho Silver’s sponsored rider for a number of years, since Emily wrote to Hiho’s King of the Road! Emily has had a very busy season, competing up to four star level this year, following an amazing performance at Pau **** last year where she came 4th with Brookleigh.
New Ariat Monaco riding boots, as they’re extremely comfortable yet super stylish.
A swimming pool! Because, well… it would just be perfect to relax in!!
A Joules coat as they’re beautifully designed yet extremely hardy and warm for the cold winter months!
A new Mitsubishi 4x4 as they are such stylish yet strong and practical vehicles… fantastic for work around the horses.

8 A villa somewhere hot and quick to get to (South of France/ Italy!) - as it would be amazing to nip over for a weekend when we weren’t competing… or at the end of the season!
An Ogilvy Half Pad - as they are the most amazing half pads around. They give horses maximum comfort and prevents any unwanted slipping and movement of the saddle.
Cavalleria Toscana breeches - as they are just the most stunning make of riding wear I’ve every come across. Plus super trendy!

International show jumper Trevor Breen is one part of Breen Sport Horses, a company that he runs with his wife Caroline… who has also show jumped internationally. They’re based in Buckinghamshire, just 20 minutes from Heathrow. Trevor has been a regular member of the Irish International team since 2007 and has a huge list of achievements including winning the British Masters CSI** 1m45 in 2015, the 1m60 class at HOYS CSI**** in 2014, and International Hickstead CSI**** Derby in both 2014 and 2015, to name but a few. In addition to competing in the UK and further afield, both Trevor and Caroline train pupils at home and offer a range of livery services.
An Apple Watch. Although I have a beautiful watch from my wife Caroline, I spend half my life on the phone about horses- I think this would be great!
A brand new 7 horse truck with a massive pop out, probably built by good friend Dave Quigley. Mia our daughter loves coming to all the shows and is so fond of head travelling groom Fran they could have a great time at shows staying in luxury!
To find Big Star by the Christmas tree would make me pretty happy, in fact that is a lie I would be the happiest man ever!
A few more Equifit customised ostrich leather D- Teq front boots with colour binding. We are so lucky that we have so many of these personalised with our company logo on them!
Another Butet Doublée Jumping Saddle in soft doubled calfskin leather from Sederholm. We have 27 horses in work at present and these are, in my opinion, the best saddles on the market.
A new pair of Ariat boots- my favourite are Heritage Contour Field Zip Tall boots! The off the shelf size fit me like gloves so I wear them at home and in the ring!
Tickets to a 6 Nations Rugby match to watch Ireland. I went to Rome years ago but unfortunately all the matches clash with foreign shows!
Sounds cheesy but for my whole family to be happy and healthy. We are expecting a new baby boy in November so this is the most important wish of the lot.

Blackdown Shepherd Hut - The Heritage Hut. Although Santa may struggle to get this one down the chimney. This is the ultimate. I’m picturing a luxury photography base - office and client meeting snug. Bliss.
Victoria’s Cottage Victoria Beddoes is best known for her award winning photography and blog – Victoria’s Cottage. Victoria is a brand ambassador for Doris & Co and has been featured by Laura Ashley UK, Aga, Living Magazine, Betty Magazine, amongst others. To find out more about Victoria, drool over her imagery and follow her adventures online, see www.victoriascottage.co.uk, or follow her on Instagram @victoriascottage.
KitchenAid Mixer I’m something of a kitchen gadget addict. The only gadget missing is the iconic mixer. Yes, please!
A Smeg Fridge Remember the kitchen gadgets? Forgot about the equally lust-worthy Smeg fridge. Only issue is, pink or cream?
David Austin Roses All of them. Their scent and shape are what my country garden dreams are made of.
The Maldives Getaway Do I need to say any more? Paradise!
Doris and Co. Vintage Christmas Mug Christmas mugs are one of my many seasonal joys. The vintage image with that perfect Doris and Co design is a match made in heaven.

Horse Riding Lessons I adored horses as a child. Still do. A few years back a friend gifted me a trekking experience and I would love to learn to ride, properly. Hold on. If this is a dream list, can I add a horse too?
Snow on Christmas Day Yes, it’s highly unoriginal and maybe a little bit corny. It would literally be the icing on the (Christmas) cake!

Sam Rahmatalla Sam Rahmatalla is a dressage rider and trainer based in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. She’s ridden at Grand Prix level and has represented Great Britain as both a young rider and senior. She trains with Carl Hester and Spencer Wilton, competes for a number of people (and she rides a horse by stallion Totilas) and also competes her own Hawtins Falerno (Doodles to his friends), who has just completed his first National Championship.
A new car!! Although I love my current car (a Mazda 2 sport) I really love the Audi A3... although I’m not sure it will fit under the Christmas tree!
3 An Antares Riding Hat.
I’m a big silver jewellery fan, especially bracelets, and have my eye on Hiho Silver’s Sterling Silver Seven Strand Russian Rings Bangle with Beads.
My other passion is the gym, and you can never have too many pairs of trainers, especially if they are Nike Air max.
7 You can never have too many riding boots, and I do like the look of the Joshua Jones custom made boots.
6 A holiday, I finally took a mini break this year with some friends, and I will definitely be taking more.

A Mobiliser The ‘Mobiliser’ is a powerful spinal joint mobilisation system from ‘back in action’. A close friend of mine has one which I tried and I thought it was amazing. In 2014 I suffered compression fractures in two vertebrae so have always had to look after my back and this is something that I would love to have at home!
Tic Toc Eventing
Abi Boulton is an event rider based in Staffordshire – she’s also known as Tic Toc Eventing, after her top horse Tilson Tic Toc (or Ben to his friends). Abi and Ben completed the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials this year- this was one of their highlights for 2016, but there have been lots of others over the years. In addition to Ben, Abi competes a number of other horses at different levels, so you’re bound to see her out and about. She’s also a brand ambassador for Hiho Silver.
Noble Outfitters I am a big fan of Noble Outfitters and could buy so many of their products! They have some lovely outerwear and with Winter sadly not being far away, I would love the ‘Elite Performance Jacket’ to keep me warm and dry!
A Holiday Preferably a warm one, the last holiday I went on was in 2013 with some friends when I left school, so would be nice to find some time to have another soon!
Jodie’s FIT Formula I met Jodie through eventing years ago and have seen her build her health and fitness business over the years - which I have hugely admired. I am always looking for yummy yet healthy meals so would love to have a copy of her recipe book!
Gym/Sportwear I am quite an active person and try to go to the gym about three times a week and I could never have enough gym clothes or trainers!
3.5 Tonner We currently have a large horsebox which we absolutely love and is perfect for when we go to three day events. However, it isn’t as ideal when it comes to travelling short distances, so a smaller vehicle would be handy too so we could ‘nip’ or even ‘pop’ to nearby competitions.
Fairfax & Favor I am very lucky to be sponsored by Fairfax & Favor and have a few pairs of their shoes already but the Chelsea Ankle Boots in Black are next on my list!
To go shooting Growing up in the countryside, I’m quite shocked that I have never been shooting. I feel that this definitely needs to be sorted as would love to do so.

A Hiho silver bracelet in an extra small - they’re a perfect combination of style and technology. All my family and horses use Mojo.
A holiday to swim with dolphins it has been a dream of mine since I was 5 years old.
2 Victoria has been involved with showing since 1998. She specialises in the plaited working hunter pony and Mountain and Moorland working hunter pony classes, but has also been very successful in showing classes on the flat. Recently, Victoria has moved up to horse classes. In addition, Victoria hires out the facilities at her yard in Needwood and also teaches, schools and prepares horses to sell and shows.
A Solarium for horses to keep the horses cosy after a bath and help their muscles recover.
Exclusive Sterling Silver And 18ct Rose Gold Plated Whip Bangle from Hiho - I love the Hiho product range and want to expand my collection.
Amelia Jane Light Grey and Midnight Black Mongolian Lambs wool gilet - Glamour that’s not on every high-street, which gives you an unique feel.
Winter SoftShell Breeches from Noble Outfitters to give me extra protection for those long days on the yard and teaching in the winter months.

Michelle Spiller Michelle is Hiho’s very own Countess of Contentment…she ensures everything runs smoothly and makes sure that all of Hiho’s customers’ needs are met – if you want a piece engraved, a piece altered, or you just want a bit of advice on what to buy your friend or loved one, she’s your girl!
A new chair for the bedroom - we have recently moved house and decorated the bedroom - I need a fancy chair for the corner of the bedroom.
A new winter coat - I normally feel the cold and love being outdoors, so a good winter coat is needed to protect me from the elements whilst being able to have fun and run about.
Michelle adores being outside, whatever the weather, and also loves a good book. She’s a huge fan of anything four legged and has a pet rabbit called Flopsy who runs around the house and garden as she likes.
Adopt a Donkey - I love donkeys, they are so gentle and loving, and with the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary just up the road, I love to visit them all and go for long walks around the huge sanctuary.
An Exclusive Sterling Silver And 18ct Rose Gold Plated, Cherry Roller Snaffle Necklace - I love horses and use to ride quite a bit, so this roller necklace is perfect for a splash of equestrian, without being too in your face.
4 New socks - I love my socks and the more colourful and stripy the better, I just love socks and you can never have enough.
A leather handbag - Who has enough handbags? I seem to have loads of soft material ones for the summer, but have a lack of choice of the leather ones for autumn/winter (only the women will understand this).

A Hiho Silver Cherry Roller Necklace. I adore my rose gold and silver cherry roller bangle from Hiho, I am rarely seen without it. Whether it be mucking out, riding or out on the town it’s perfect for every occasion so I’d love to have the matching necklace.
Harriet Edwards is the lady behind ‘A Girl About Country’, a blog focussing on chic country style. The blog started due to people’s comments – firstly on what Harriet was wearing in her Instagram posts and then, latterly, asking for advice about what they should wear. This developed and now ‘A Girl About Country’ is a popular blog that promotes country fashion and accessories with a practical edge – Harriet is a farmer’s daughter and country girl through and through, so when she’s not working you’ll find her on the farm, riding, shooting, walking the dogs or perfecting her domestic goddess skills in the kitchen.
5 An extension to the gin collection! I loved Hiho’s recent journal feature on great British gins so I have them to thank for wanting to expand my collection. I love Silent Pool (you can even get matching glasses which are amazing) and the William’s Chase mulberry and sloe gin – a perfect hip flask staple.
A Fairfax and Favor purse. It’s well known that I am a serious fan of Fairfax & Favor’s and I am almost a little bit ashamed to say I have quite the collection (some will say that’s an understatement!!). I love the new line of purses and have treated myself to the navy version already but I would love the chocolate version. It’s big enough to use as a clutch too which is a bonus.
A few days out with my Mum. My mum is the hardest working person I know, if she’s not at work, she’s looking after the farm with my dad as well as keeping the house and family functioning! So I would really love her to agree to take a few days off (an impossible task) and get away from it all – she deserves it!
An Albion bridle. My lovely horse DD is yet to own anything of her own – because she’s the youngest she relies on hand-medowns from the others. She currently has a very tatty old bridle and I’d love her to have something a bit more glam. I love the range from Albion because you can literally design your own, meaning you get a bespoke piece which is completely suited to your horse and your style!
Holland Cooper Shooting Vest. I absolutely love the Holland Cooper shooting range particularly their latest addition. I’m not the world’s best shot but at least I can look stylish in the field with this!
A skiing holiday. I’m not known for sitting down for too long and I’d pick a winter wardrobe over a summer one any day, so a skiing holiday is a perfect break for me. I haven’t been skiing for years and whilst it’s been on the cards for a while we never seem to get an opportunity to go.
Long hair! I used to have really long hair when I was younger and then stupidly cut it off and have regretted it, trying to get it to grow back to what it was ever since. I did try hair extensions for a while but it’s not me at all, so now I’m (not so) patiently waiting for it grow…

All men need socks and the only place to get them is from Phil (Sock Boy). I first met Phil at Henley Regatta several years ago and we had an absolute blast together. He is reviving is grandfather’s old business Morrows Outfitters; it’s a lovely thing to be doing and he is a great chap. He wondered why I had my title “King of the Road” and why he was just Sock Boy! Well he now has two shops in London with a friend selling Knots and Socks, so I raise my hat to Phil “King of the Socks”.
Hiho’s King of the Road, Andrew Ransford, hardly needs any introduction. If you visit any of the shows that Hiho attends during the year, you’re bound to have seen him! When he’s not on the road, he loves spending time with his family in Somerset.
Bruce Springsteen’s Autobiography. We nearly always have music playing on the Hiho stand during the summer and those that spend a lot of time with me know that on the odd occasion we just put the Boss on all day! He’s just written a book and an album to go with so please can I have one of these?
Chainsaw Trousers, many of you will know that when I’m not King of the Road, I spend as much time as I can messing about with horses. This doesn’t only mean riding them but building jumps for as many people as possible to enjoy. This was my idea last year of a jumping lane, all 4ft 6inches of it!
iTunes vouchers. Those people who are lucky enough to come to the shows we do like Bramham, Blair and Osberton, will know that I do like to dance! So I’d like to spend some money on trying to keep up with all the latest music.
A horse. Unfortunately the amazing Bouncy Charlie, who will jump anything he is pointed at, has got a sore foot and is off for a year! It’s not easy to find a horse that the whole family enjoy riding and who can take me over hedges and water troughs, and the boys round a highly technical tetrathlon course at the PC Regional championships.
Babington House. A night or two away with my family please! Bit of pampering never goes amiss and the tea is to die for!!! Literally with all that clotted cream!
Whisky/Bourbon, now this is a really tricky one. I love whisky, but a real treat would be a bottle of “Fighting Cock” bourbon, it is smooth and very different from whisky with almost a sweet finish. It would remind me of my spring time trip to the Kentucky Rolex I got told I couldn’t buy a beer as I didn’t have ID, and I stayed with two of the most hospitable people to ever grace this earth!

A Dubarry Marlfield Shooting Coat. I honestly can’t get enough of this coat, its sleek lines and technical fit put it firmly at the top of my Christmas list.
Victoria Knowles-Lacks is head girl and founder of the Shotgun & Chelsea Bun Club, an amazing association that brought clay shooting to the female population…with a side helping to cake, friendship and good humour. The S&CBC has just celebrated its fifth anniversary and continues to grow each day thanks to Victoria’s enthusiasm and passion for the sport. Victoria lives in Shropshire and adores anything country. She’s also a regular contributor to Fieldsports Magazine and is a director of the Clay Pigeon Shooting Association. Victoria is also a brand ambassador for Hiho Silver.
An antique partners writing desk, so I can boost productivity and not keep taking my cups to the kitchen.
The Bonties Savanna Shooting Suit, because if you haven’t heard of Bonties, you’re missing out. Their collection is so different, it fits well, it flatters and it looks exceptional in the line. I do have a bit of a shooting coat obsession and Christmas is the perfect time to indulge.
I’m a Browning girl through and through and I love my over under, but....what girl wouldn’t love to have a Purdey 16g side by side shotgun for special occasions?
I’d love a brand new Discovery (and a free driver ideally, but I don’t want to push my luck). This is so I can travel to all of the events I go to in comfort, style and have enough room for all of my kit, my husband and lazy terrier.
A Ships Grouse Decanter from Fur Feather & Fin that I’d use when my Dad comes to visit. It would be perfect for Christmas night with the family. Also, just because every house needs a sporting decanter.
A Hiho Exclusive Sterling Silver Pheasant Brooch…it would look great on my new Dubarry coat!
A P.A. My last but not least ultimate wish. My very own P.A to help me on a daily basis!
